“We are a nuclear state, and it is just unfortunate that we are seen to be unstable; that our nuclear assets can fall into wrong hands, into the hands of the terrorists… this is an Islamic bomb that Pakistan has. I really don’t understand why the world calls it an Islamic bomb, and why there is no Hindu bomb, or a Jew bomb, or a Christian bomb, or a Buddhist bomb. Why is this bomb an Islamic bomb? I don’t understand. And the man on the street in Pakistan does not understand this.”
This question is very poignant and goes to the heart of the bias against Pakistan. Why does the Pakistani bomb labeled under a religion whereas the Chinese or North Korean bomb is not called a Buddhist bomb and the Indian bomb is not called a Hindu bomb. Similarly the American bomb is not called a Christian bomb.
Terrorists also are labeled by religion, which is wrong. A criminal is a criminal period.
The entire world knows that Pakistan had a India-specific clandestine Nuclear program to match the clandestine Nuclear program of India. Pakistan was the only country to be dismembered between 1945 and 1971. Therefore she tried to create a shield for herself. All through the 80s, both countries tried to develop nuclear weapons, much like the US funded the Manhattan project in secret. Similarly the French and the British program nuclear programs were carried out in secret and perhaps on information leaked to them by the USA or by American. Israel’s nuclear programs remains hidden and clandestine also. Where she got her technology is open to conjecture. After the US nuclear bombs, the USSR as well as the Chinese also had clandestine nuclear programs. Mr. Kalaam the father of the Indian bomb also used the same type of techniques to gather nuclear technology for India. Singling out A.Q. Khan as some anamoly is very strange and smacks of Islamphobia. Bringing up Pakistan in a 9/11 story is bigoted racism. Pakistan or Pakistanis had nothing to do with the foreign policy failures of the USA (both Democratic and Republican).. With severe embargoes imposed on Pakistan, she shared technology with many countries, and got technology from many countries
