A historic event has taken place in Japan. The Conservative pro-US LDJ has been defeated after a reign of 45 years and the Left leaning DPJ has taken over the reigns of the government. For much of its existence after WW2, the US has ruled Japan first as a colony, and then as a client state.

In a historic change in Japan’s parliamentary political history, the Democratic Party of Japan defeated the Liberal Democratic Party-Komeito ruling coalition in Sunday’s Lower House election. The DPJ has captured 308 seats out of the 480 seats in the all-important chamber.

The DPJ’s victory ends almost 55 years of uninterrupted rule by the LDP, which was formed and first took power in late 1954. The election also represents the first Lower House election in the postwar universal suffrage era in which one opposition party has won a majority in the chamber by defeating a ruling party that enjoyed a majority. Japan’s democracy has matured to a stage in which the people will readily vote for a change in government when they are dissatisfied with the status quo. Japan Times. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009. EDITORIAL. Historic day for Japanese politics

Japan has not been allowed to keep an, an army, Air Force and Navy, and the Tokyo has been scared into believing that the biggest threat to its existence is China. Traditionally most of Japanese trade was with Europe and the Americas. Japan buys most of its oil from the Middle East. Its relations with Pakistan are totally dependent American whims, sanctions and largess.

Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, whose Democratic Party of Japan plans to review aspects of the Japan-U.S. security arrangement. There have been some potent indications that the DPJ will seek to forge closer relations with East Asia, and temper the Tokyo’s one sided alliance with the United States.

Afghanistan is one of several areas in which some political analysts believe Japan may cool its cooperation with the United States.  Meiji University Professor Tomohiko Taniguchi says Mr. Hatoyama’s party, the DPJ, views the U.S. relationship as less central to Japanese foreign policy than the outgoing conservatives.

“It’s evinced by the conviction that many DPJ politicians seem to have of the necessity to reduce the footprint of the U.S. military still further,” Taniguchi said. “They’re talking about reducing the amount of host-nation support budget to the United States.” Washington stations about 50,000 U.S. forces in Japan. President Clinton after his trip to Delhi had been pushing for a Australia-Japan-India-US alliance against the bad boys of Beijing. President Clinton actively encouraged the BJP to activate its fledgling Nuclear Program and explode a Nuclear device. Delhi was not ready to explode a device, but the pressure from the White House was intense. President Clinton wanted to leverage Delhi to get a better deal with Beijing. The plan was to force Pakistan, a Chinese ally into a subservient position.

Pakistan did not accept US pressure. President Bush actively pursued the policy of engagement with India. However that policy had risks. The economic meltdown and the ensuing financial crisis forced Washington’s hand. The fact that Beijing  not New York was America’s new banker was not lost to the Obama Administration. Ms. Hillary Clinton weighed the options–India or China.

He first visit was to China–not India. This gave the world an indication of which way the winds of change were turning. In China Ms. Hillary Clinton got an earful. Beijing did not exact its pound of flesh, but the Peoples Daily clearly published articles informing Ms. Clinton that if they wanted China to continue to purchase America’s debt, things must change in American Foreign policy. Washington continues to pay lip service to Delhi, but its actions say different things.

Aid to Pakistan has tripled, and an exit strategy has been prepared for Afghanistan which includes Islamabad. Japan has also seen the writing on the wall. The current election is a move in the right direction. Japan will be looking towards Beijing and mending its fences with China.

It is interesting to read the editorial of the Japan Times on the new victory. The editorial says nothing about the tsunami of change that is brewing in Japanese foreign policy. Time will tell if Japan has made the move to the left and changed its foreign policy, or its more of the same.

In the field of foreign policy, the DPJ government must ensure relations remain on a positive footing with other nations — especially the United States. The Japan-U.S. security alliance is indispensable for Japan’s defense and for regional stability. The new government must also deal with China’s growing economic and military power. Given the monumental tasks that await the DPJ government, Mr. Hatoyama will need to exhibit leadership that is both farsighted and decisive. Japan Times. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009. EDITORIAL. Historic day for Japanese politics

The wish list of Japan Times is more of the same. That is not the platform on which the DPJ won the elections. Already the DJP is showing the first signs of change. Japan the only victim of the Atomic bomb is very Anti-Nuclear and current Japanese law does not allow any nuclear material on Japanese soil. A so called secret Nuclear deal exists between the US and Japan. The secret deal  allowed U.S. warships or aircraft carrying nuclear weapons to stop over in Japan or pass through Japanese air space or territorial waters without the required prior consultation with Tokyo. Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama will end the refueling of naval vessels in the Indian Ocean that supports the occupation of Afghanistan.

In Asia, one thing Mr. Hatoyama may do is seek tighter economic ties with China, Japan’s largest trading partner. He can also put some distance between himself and Japan’s militaristic history. He vows he will not visit Tokyo’s Yasukuni shrine, where war criminals are enshrined, alongside other war dead. VOA

An assertive Japan has huge implications for Bharat, China, the USA, Australia, and the world at large. In a fascinating policy paper on Japan titled “Electing a New Japanese Security Policy? Examining Foreign Policy Visions within the Democratic Party of Japan” Leif-Eric Easley, Tetsuo Kotani and Aki Mori describe the new assertive Japan as a Japan different then what we have seen in the past 5 decades. There are five main tenets of the DPJ’s envisioned “independent diplomacy”:

  1. pursuing a more “mature” alliance in which Japan is less dependent on and deferential to the U.S.
  2. re-establishing Japan as a “member of Asia” through economic and trade initiatives, historical reconciliation, and multilateral institution-building
  3. contributing to international security through the UN, with Japan providing financing, peacekeepers, and impetus for reform
  4. working for nuclear disarmament via international, regional, and bilateral diplomatic efforts
  5. modernizing Japan’s national security apparatus to prioritize citizen rights and taxpayer savings

Leif-Eric Easley, Tetsuo Kotani and Aki Mori describe the Policy Implications of a Japan that perhaps does not want to play second fiddle anymore.

Drastic changes to Japanese foreign policy are unlikely as the DPJ faces the practical realities of governing and looks to prove itself before Upper House elections in 2010.

Despite the challenges of stabilizing Afghanistan and Iraq, combating piracy, and searching North Korean vessels, the political bar for international operations by Japan’s Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) will likely rise.

A DPJ government will maintain the U.S. alliance, but may scale back the LDP goal of a global security partnership by limiting the scope of the alliance to Japan’s defense and regional stability.

In the process of differentiating the DPJ from the LDP and taking political advantage of the unpopularity of Bush administration foreign policies, the DPJ made promises to the Japanese public. A DPJ government would likely address at least some of those promises so as not to lose credibility.

In particular, the DPJ may seek to modify plans for alliance transformation, thereby opening up contentious debates about roles and missions, financial support, basing, and the relocation of U.S. marines from Okinawa to Guam.

There is nothing new in the DPJ thinking. In the 80s the Chairman of Sony, Akio Morita wrote a book called ” A Japan that can say no”. The book caused a huge furor in the US, and it was republished in English but with huge modification. As far back as 2002, there were clear signs that Japan had a mind of its own.

  • Americans believe that the Caucasian race is superior since the modern era is dominated by the western world, and this prejudice will hurt them in the end.
  • Americans and Christian missionaries try to erase local cultures and replace them with Western culture. (See Cultural imperialism)
  • Former American colonies are rife with problems, while former Japanese colonies are thriving.
  • America’s dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan and not Germany in World War II arose from racism because Germans are white and Japanese are not. (Though at the time of the German defeat in April 1945, the atomic bomb was as yet incomplete and untested until July 16, 1945.)

Today’s DJP is saying the same thing–only in polite diplomatic language

It is not unusual that the policy priorities of Japan and the U.S. should be different at times. It is impossible that the Japan-U.S. relationship will become like the one between the UK and the U.S. Japan, while upholding objectives common with the U.S, must have its own axis of coordinates and engage in diplomacy that is complementary to that of the U.S. Basic Strategies for Japan’s Foreign Policy in the 21st Century New Era, New Vision, New Diplomacy, November 28, 2002. Task Force on Foreign Relations for the Prime Minister

Pakistan has enjoyed good relations with Japan but the relationship has always been chaperoned by the USA. When Pakistan has good relations with America, Tokyo is there to help. When Pakistan has bad relations with Washington, the relationship with Japan is also on the doldrums. An assertive Japan would like a moderate Pakistan. An assertive Japan may mend its fences with China and build on its “Look towards Asia policy”. Pakistan may be able to leverage this independence and build a bi-lateral relationship with Tokyo.

Muslims have voted in record numbers for President Brack Obama and the Democratic party in tow elections. The Muslim electorate cannot be taken for granted. Unlike the African American vote bank, Muslims have voted for Republicans and Democratic tickets. In this election Muslims expect appointment to various positions. A Muslim cabinet minister is a sign of the times. 2008: Muslims more loyal to Democrats than Blacks or Hispanics

Fear-mongering about Islam is a global industry. It thrives on ignorance. Obama has a unique power to break the cycle, not least by emboldening moderate Muslims to denounce terror. Nothing would do more in the long run for the security of the world. 06/26/2008 10:09 AMROGER COHEN Why Obama Should Visit a Mosque

While the senator has visited churches and synagogues, he has yet to appear at a single mosque. Muslim and Arab-American organizations have tried repeatedly to arrange meetings with Mr. Obama, but officials with those groups say their invitations — unlike those of their Jewish and Christian counterparts — have been ignored. Last week, two Muslim women wearing head scarves were barred by campaign volunteers from appearing behind Mr. Obama at a rally in Detroit. Anderea Elliot of the New York Times

President Barack Obama has to reach out to a large and diverse population. A Muslim has to be appointed to a prominent position in the administration. Keith Ellison is one of the prominent Muslims members of Congress. He and many other candidates should be nominated to major US government positions. Muslim ambassadors would go a long way in reducing some of the Anti-Americanism that was the hall mark of the past decade.

“It was not like ‘Good, Obama gets the Muslim world.’ It was ‘Oh My God! Here’s a guy who understands the world, us, America.’ Voting for him was a no brainer.”Salman Ahmed, the New York-based guitarist and singer of the Pakistani-American rock band Junoon.

Presidential candidate Barack Obama never visited a mosque during the campaign. When will be do that? When will President Obama nominate a Muslim cabinet minister. Obama’s mosque visit-Islam and Orientalist thought.

As Andrea Elliott chronicled in an important article in The Times, Obama has visited churches and synagogues, but no mosque. He had to apologize after two Muslim women wearing head scarves were barred from appearing behind him at a recent rally in Detroit.

Obama should visit a mosque. He has repeatedly shown his courage during this campaign; Americans have responded to his intellectual honesty. One of the important things about him is the knowledge his Kenyan and Indonesian experiences have given him of Islam as lived, rather than Islam as turned into monstrous specter.

This enables him to break the monolithic, alienating view of a great world religion that is as multifaceted as Judaism or Christianity. 06/26/2008 10:09 AMROGER COHEN Why Obama Should Visit a Mosque

In the 2000 elections after a couple of missteps by Al Gore, almost all Muslims voted for candidate George W. Bush. In 2004 they shifted their vote to the Democrats en masse. In the 2008 election the Muslim vote was crucial in the Democratic victories in Michigan, Colorado, Ohio, Pennsyvania, and Virginia. Can Obama use his diverse background to build a better world?

As Senator Barack Obama courted voters in Iowa last December, Representative Keith Ellison, the country’s first Muslim congressman, stepped forward eagerly to help. Recent and archived news articles by Andrea Elliott of The New York Times. Mr. Ellison believed that Mr. Obama’s message of unity resonated deeply with American Muslims. He volunteered to speak on Mr. Obama’s behalf at a mosque in Cedar Rapids, one of the nation’s oldest Muslim enclaves. But before the rally could take place, aides to Mr. Obama asked Mr. Ellison to cancel the trip because it might stir controversy. Another aide appeared at Mr. Ellison’s Washington office to explain.

“I will never forget the quote,” Mr. Ellison said, leaning forward in his chair as he recalled the aide’s words. “He said, ‘We have a very tightly wrapped message.’ ” Anderea Elliot of the New York Times

But many Muslims kept their presidential preference a secret in the months leading up to Super Tuesday, fearing that an endorsement from them might in fact work against Obama. After all, this was an election year in which the word “Muslim” was used as shorthand to connote anti-American leanings and a hidden love of terrorism. A recent study by Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), a media watchdog group, found that the mainstream press didn’t do enough to challenge the election-year smears of Islam by such conservative talk show hosts as Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage, or counter accusations that Obama was “one of them” by detractors such as “Obama Nation” author Jerome Corsi. “We are the bogeyman now,” joked a secular Muslim women last month during a conversation regarding Obama (she preferred to remain anonymous). “Yes, I want to shout my endorsement of him from the rooftops, but I do not want to mess up any chance of Obama becoming the next president. How crazy is his position we’ve been put in?”Newsweek. Islam and Obama: American Muslims overwhelmingly voted Democratic By Lorraine Ali | NEWSWEEK: Published Nov 7, 2008

Muslim Americans wonder if Barack Obama will over compensate for his Kenyan families Muslim background, ignore Muslim issues to avoid the charge of pandering. All Americans are asking the same question. Can Obama use his diverse background to build a better world?

What Obama should have said & Powell had the guts to say:“A lot of us are waiting for him to say that there’s nothing wrong with being a Muslim, by the way,” Mr. Ellison said.

Many Muslim Americans also changed their party affiliations for this election. The country’s Muslim population, estimated at between 7 to 8 million, has traditionally voted along conservative, Republican lines. Today, more than two-thirds of American Muslims polled say they consider themselves to be Democrats, while only 4% see themselves as Republicans (29% identified as Independents.) The shift began in 2004—in part because of the GOP’s handling of civil liberties, from wiretapping American citizens to detaining Muslims in the US and Guantanamo without trail, and because of the war in Iraq. This year, many more were drawn into the Democratic party by Obama himself. Muslims across the country were captivated by the senator’s promise of unity and hope. On the Muslim-Americans for Obama website (or “Mafo2008.com”), their mission statement includes the following: “That we support Barack Obama because, among other reasons, he rejects the politics of fear, challenging our nation to embrace its collective identity, where each American has a stake in the success and well-being of every American.” Newsweek. Islam and Obama: American Muslims overwhelmingly voted Democratic By Lorraine Ali | NEWSWEEK: Published Nov 7, 2008

Juan Cole: Obama is Saying the Wrong Things about Afghanistan. Whether Mr. Obama is a Muslim or not is a bone of contention for many. Many tried to over emphasize his middle name “Husain”. Others added “Muhammad” as part of his name. MUhammad is not part of his name. Some even claimed that he is hiding his Muslim background. Some fundamentalist Americans of the Christian right disingenuously tried to portrayhim as a “hidden Muslim”. On the other hand many fundamentalist Muslims consider him a heretic. Most Americans have rejected the fundamentalist Christian charge by overwhelmingly voting for him, and most Muslims have not supported him just because of his background and most have rejected the heretic charge. Most Muslims will vote or support him based on his record and his actions. His vote against the war in Iraq is a great plus for all Americans and for Muslims also.

To overcome the stigma and the charges, Mr. Obama may be over cautious, and try to prove himself as anti-Muslim to keep his detractors at bay. His earlier statements can be categorized in this compartment. On the other hand his multi-ethnic background may assist him in understanding the complex issues of the world.

In 2006, the Virginia Muslim Political Action Committee arranged for 53 Muslim cabdrivers to skip their shifts at Dulles International Airport in Northern Virginia to transport voters to the polls for the midterm election. Of an estimated 60,000 registered Muslim voters in the state, 86 percent turned out and voted overwhelmingly for Jim Webb, a Democrat running for the Senate who subsequently won the election, according to data collected by the committee. Anderea Elliot of the New York Times

The worlds reaction is mixed. In Africa and many parts of the world he is a super hero. Middle Easterners and South Asian are hungry for an American president with a heart, and are hoping against hope that Mr. Obama may be that person. However most Muslim Americans are very cautious about him. Many have taken a wait and see attitude on Mr. Obama, waiting for his words and actions that define him.

While the press has largely ignored the voting power of the Muslims in America, it remains one of the most powerful voting blocks in America.

A lot of us are waiting for him to say that there’s nothing wrong with being a Muslim, by the way,” Mr. Keith Ellison.

President Barack Obama never said it. General Collin Powell did take Barack Obama to task for Mr. Obama’s inability to deal say “there is nothing wrong with being a Muslim”.

A “watershed” moment for U.S. Muslims occurred in mid-October, he said, when former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Republican who endorsed Obama, addressed the Obama-is-a-Muslim rumors which had circulated for months, and condemned the idea that this would be a slur.

“Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country?” Powell asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “The answer’s no, that’s not America … Yet I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion ‘he’s a Muslim and he might be associated with terrorists.’”

Younis said that for U.S. Muslims Powell’s comment capped a decades-long search “to become part and parcel of the nation.”

But beyond the use of the term Muslim as a pejorative, and accusations by the far right that Obama was himself a secret follower of the Quran, what did real Muslim-Americans think of the Chicago senator? And how did they vote? The American Muslim Task Force on Civil Rights and Elections released a poll today of over 600 Muslims from more than ten states, including Florida and Pennsylvania, and it revealed that 89% of respondents voted for Obama, while only 2% voted for McCain. It also indicated that 95% of Muslims polled cast a ballot in this year’s presidential election—the highest turnout in a U.S. election ever—and 14% of those were first-time voters. The Gallup Center for Muslim studies estimates that U.S. Muslims favored Obama in greater numbers than did Hispanics (67% of whom voted for Obama)—and even outpaced African-Americans, 93% of whom voted for Obama. More than two-thirds who were polled said the economy was the most important issue affecting their decision on November 4th, while 16% said the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan informed their vote—numbers that put Muslims roughly on a par with the general population. VIDEO BACKFIRED

More than 20 million copies of a film called “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West” were included as advertising supplements in newspapers, distributed by a private group unaffiliated with Republican John McCain’s campaign. The film features suicide bombers, children being trained with guns, and a Christian church said to have been defiled by Muslims.

Read said the video was a subtle attempt to link Obama to Islamic extremists but many of the states where it was handed out “were strongholds of Muslim American voters” who were prompted to work for Obama.

“It may actually have brought out voters for Obama,” she said.

But beyond that issue, she added, Muslim voters looked a lot like many other American voters. They moved away from the Republican party, which they had backed heavily in 2000 but less so in 2004 — and voted their concerns for issues such as the economy and a desire for a change in leadership. Goatmilk on WordPress Wajahat Ali

But the ploy to connect Obama to a demonized Islam may have backfired. Weeks before the election, a non-profit group which calls itself the Clarion Fund sent out an anti-Muslim DVD titled “Obsession” in Sunday papers across America; copies were also mailed to various voters in swing states. The DVD paired images of Nazis with images of Muslims, over and over and over again. Its arrival on the eve of the election was clearly intended to scare voters into supporting McCain, turning them against the candidate whose middle name happens to be “Hussein.” “It was intended to be a way of linking Obama to Islam, but it backfired when a lot of people began saying wait, what’s going on?” says Jen’nan Read, a professor of sociology at Duke University. “It not only mobilized many Muslim-American voters, but brought out other undecided voters in support of Obama rather than McCain.” Newsweek. Censured! Lieberman repudiated. Impact on US politics

This saying refers to the festival of Eid when lambs are sacrificed to pay homage to the Abraham sacrificing a lamb. Right before the festival of Eid the mother of the goat cannot expect the goat to last too long. How long before the goat is taken for the sacrifice.

Lieberman’s “extraordinary disloyalty” means he should resign from the party. Lieberman’s “support of right-wing candidates cannot be reconciled with the ideals and values of the Democratic Party,” the resolution states….Leaving a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Thursday afternoon, Lieberman told reporters that he was “considering the options I have before me” and said nothing more. Hartford Courant. CT

On the surface Senator Lieberman has once again changed his colors and is supporting President Barack Obama.

“The election is over, and I completely agree with President-elect [Barack] Obama that we must now unite to get our economy going again and to keep the American people safe.

“That is exactly what I intend to do with my colleagues here in the Senate in support of our new president,” he said. “And those are the standards I will use in considering the options that I have before me.” Senator Lieberman CNN November 6th, 2008

However the ill feelings run deep and the Democrats may take away the chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee.

“While I understand that Sen. Lieberman has voted with Democrats a majority of the time, his comments and actions have raised serious concerns among many in our caucus,” said Reid, D-Nevada. “I expect there to be additional discussions in the days to come, and Sen. Lieberman and I will speak to our caucus in two weeks to discuss further steps,” he said. John Reid. CNN November 6th, 2008

Sen. Joe Lieberman's decision to campaign for Sen. John McCain angered Democrats.Sen. Joe Lieberman’s decision to campaign for Sen. John McCain angered Democrats.Payback, the saying goes, can be, well, tough. And it could be Joe Lieberman’s turn to be on the receiving end. Throughout the campaign, the Connecticut Senator prided himself on being a “Democrat for McCain,” desperately trying to win over support from the left and the middle for the GOP candidate.

Now, Lieberman’s support for McCain is pretty much irrelevant. But it’s Lieberman’s Democrat label that could also become a thing of the past. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid summonsed Lieberman to his Capitol Hill office early this afternoon to have, according to a senior Hill staffer, a “frank chat” with the senator. If the meeting goes as planned, this aide confirms to NEWSWEEK, Reid will only give Lieberman the equivalent of a legislative talking-to, demanding that he rally behind Obama, or at the very least, release a statement of support for the president-elect. But if it turns tense or combative, Reid could deny admission to the Democratic caucus, even strip away Lieberman’s valuable chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. “I doubt that will happen,” this aide says, “unless the meeting goes really bad.”

Lieberman was part of the Democrats hope for the future once upon a time when he ran with Al Gore against Bush-Cheney in 2000. But it was the near-loss of his senate seat in 2004 that almost spelled the ultimate political defeat for Lieberman. He lost the primary to fellow Democrat Ned Lamont, but squeaked out a win by running as an independent. Posted Thursday, November 06, 2008 2:55 PM In Which Joe Lieberman Faces the Music, Newsweek,By Daniel Stone

Senator Lieberman faces a similar uncertain future right after the election in which he supported the Republicans. Ironically the festival of Eid ul Doha (Bukra Eid) is also right around the corner.

As one of two senate independents (the other is Bernie Sanders of Vermont), Lieberman chose to still caucus with the Democrats. And the party needed him. With just 50 seats, the Democrats clamored over the Lieberman’s affection for a prized 51 seat majority. The Republicans did too, to ensure that the Democrats didn’t get it.

But when John McCain threw his hat into the ring for the White House in 2006, Lieberman swung right. He didn’t only endorse McCain, he traveled with the GOP hopeful on his campaign plane and spoke at the candidate’s rallies and stump speeches–often with harsh criticisms of Obama.

So as the Democrats take firm control of both houses of congress (54 seats in the senate, at last count), Lieberman might be the first to go. Must be tough to realize how few friends a guy’s got in Washington. Posted Thursday, November 06, 2008 2:55 PM In Which Joe Lieberman Faces the Music, Newsweek, by Daniel Stone

What goes up must come down! Senator Lieberman has played a nasty game with the American people. He is an opportunist with an agenda. He joined forces with Al Gore to gain prominence and become a Vice Presidential candidate. However right after the election he supported the war in Iraq and became the administrations mouthpiece to speak up against Muslims around the planet.

The American people have rejected the likes of Mayor Guiliani and Mitt Romney. It is a matter of time when Senator Lieberman loses his seat in NH. With the demise of the career of Senator Lieberman, the demise of his cohorts and other Neocons is also on the decline. It will not end immediately but it will nt be as prominent as it was during the past decade.

The local Democrats are passing a censure resolution against Senator Lieberman.

“This is local and this is personal,” Audrey Blondin, one of the authors of the resolution, told me. “This needs to be addressed.”The resolution has attracted the support of dozens of party activists. Local town committees are now considering the proposal and the Democratic State Central Committee could vote on it on Dec. 17. Hartford Courant. CT

Here is the full text of the resolution:

Resolution To Censure Joseph I. Lieberman

Whereas Joseph I. Lieberman sought re-election in 2006 as an independent after losing the Democratic primary; and

Whereas he has publicly endorsed and actively campaigned on behalf of Republican Presidential candidate John McCain, among others; and

Whereas he has attended and addressed the Republican National Convention thereby undercutting the election campaigns of Democratic candidates all across America; and

Whereas support of right-wing Republicans cannot be reconciled with the ideals and values of the Democratic Party, nor with the best interests of the people of America; and

Whereas these actions exhibit extraordinary disloyalty to the countless Connecticut Democrats without whom his career as an elected official would never have been possible;

Therefore, be it hereby resolved, that we, the undersigned members of the Connecticut Democratic State Central Committee, delegates to the Democratic National Convention from Connecticut, and Connecticut Democratic public officials publicly censure and repudiate the words and actions of Joseph I. Lieberman, and ask of him that he resign as a member of the Democratic Party of the state of Connecticut.

Can Barack Obama stop behaving as if he is the global policeman, the new Sherrif in town ready to pick up the evil ones? Perhaps he needs to realize that the presidency of the United States is not a license to run a global bounty service!

Can Obama use his diverse background to build a better world? Barack Obama wants us to execute “Change we believe in“. However he is regurgitating the Neocon agenda in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Carpet bombing Afghanistani civilians with Daisy Cutters did not eliminate the opposition to occupation, it fueled the resistance. The Obama rhetoric on Osama Bin Laden and against Pakistan displays a lack of understanding of the region. His Vice President knows Pakistan well and needs to be applauded for his visionary strategy of tripling the aid to Pakistan. Obama is whisper away from sanity. Even though he has the best advice in America, he keeps on spouting Neocon claptrap. Is Bush stealing Obama’s war on Pakistan?

In Tuesday’s debate, Sen. Barack Obama repeated to his opponent for the presidency, Sen. John McCain, as well as the nation, that he wanted to “kill” al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden. Obama also said he would be willing to mount a surgical strike into Pakistan, a nation armed with nuclear weapons, in order to “take out” the central figure in America’s war on terror if he was within the U.S.’s grasp.

“Actually, this is a calculated effort on the part of Democrats to show they understand the need for force sometimes,” said Loren Thompson, chief operating officer of the defense policy think tank, the Lexington Institute. “‘Take them out.’ That’s not a term we normally hear from Democrats.“By Russ Britt, MarketWatch.Last update: 10:18 a.m. EDT Oct. 10, 2008

America’s Secret war in Pakistan-MSNBC uncovers Marines with long beards and without uniforms

Obama’s Afghan Iraq mirror images policies contradict each other. Barack Obama wants to bring about “change that we believe in“. However he is spouting rhetoric against reminiscent of George W. Bush’s false accusations against Iraq. A cacophony of Republicans voices say the same thing. Obama’s harranague on this subject simply mimics the “W” war mongering. Threats: Obama’s Kabul indoctrination: Venom against Pakistan.

Opposed Bush-Cheney Saber Rattling: Obama and Biden opposed the Kyl-Lieberman amendment, which says we should use our military presence in Iraq to counter the threat from Iran. Obama and Biden believe that it was reckless for Congress to give George Bush any justification to extend the Iraq War or to attack Iran. Obama also introduced a resolution in the Senate declaring that no act of Congress – including Kyl-Lieberman – gives the Bush administration authorization to attack Iran. Barack Obama web site

War drums in the Gulf, Hindu Kush & the Khyber Pass. Today Barack Obama is crying at the tone and the decibel level of the rhetoric against him. However he is using the same type of rhetoric against the Pakistani–portraying them as bad, duplicitous and evil–charges that he himself faces. If Barack Obama had any vision, he needs to show it, not only about bipartisanship on Capital Hill. If Barack Obama is the statesmen and wants to talk with all those that disagree with America, then he cannot stop at the Hindu Kush. Barack Obama needs to learn from history and not repeat the Mossadagh episode that turned all Iranians against the Stars and Strips.

“I’ve never thought the Democrats were all that peaceful,” said Phyllis Oakley, a State Department official under Reagan, the elder Bush and Clinton.
But Oakley, who spent several years for State in Afghanistan, says she’s not sure either candidate’s approach is best for capturing bin Laden.

“I’m really interested in how more forward-leaning Obama would be in dealing with al-Qaida and the Taliban,” Oakley said. As for McCain’s claim that has the acumen to get bin Laden without specifics also is questionable. McCain needs to at least offer a rough outline his plan – without violating national security

“Saying ‘I know how to do it’ is the wrong approach,” she said. By Russ Britt, MarketWatch.Last update: 10:18 a.m. EDT Oct. 10, 2008

McCain,Obama Afghan bluster on Pakistan overtaken by events. The US, Taliban and the Karzai government are talking in Saudi Arabia facilitated by Nawaz Shairf, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan. These antagonists are trying to sovle the problems facing Afghanistan and come up with a government of national unity to replace the Norhtern Alliance dominated non-Pakhtun government in Kabul. Karzai the biggest drug baron in Afghanistan

Its over before the lady sings! Impact of Obama on GWOT. One of the consequences of the the aerial drone bombing in Pakistan and the intrusion into Pakistani territory is the growing Anti-Americanism in Pakistan. Iran is already Anti-American already and has been for several decades. Pakistanis have traditional been Pro-American. The elite and the urban areas are still Pro-American. The villages have been ambiguous or pro-American. Now at least two provinces are solidly Anti-American and even the elite has been pushed into positions that cannot be considered good for America. By humiliating the Pakistan Army, constantly bombing the territory and violating the airspace of Pakistan, huge sections of Pakistani society now share the Iranian point of view. If this drone bombing continues, the fire of Anti-Americanism now solidly encompasses the land between the Euphrates to the Indus. This is not good either for America or for Pakistan. Certainly it is not good for the world.

A Shift Toward the Center (of Fascism)? Obama’s bluster has emboldened the current US machinery (which he opposes), to bomb Pakistan and send in the marines, some of them out-of-uniform. Is it McCain Guiliani, Lieberman vs Obama, Lugar & Biden? Barack Obama and John McCain have to stop demonizing the Pakistanis who have been allies of the USA for the past six decades–otherwise they are no better than the Neocons who own the media and regurgitate nonsensical Islamphobia on a routine basis. Bush & Obama both war mongers. Barack wants a different war?

Talk to our Foes and Friends: Obama and Biden are willing to meet with the leaders of all nations, friend and foe. They will do the careful preparation necessary, but will signal that America is ready to come to the table, and that he is willing to lead. And if America is willing to come to the table, the world will be more willing to rally behind American leadership to deal with challenges like terrorism, and Iran and North Korea’s nuclear programs. Barack Obama website

Barack Obama wants to talk freidn and foe. How come he has not heard what the Pakistanis are saying.

Obama visited Pakistan: Didn’t learn anything! 30,000 FATA residents who fought with the CIA to defeat Russia are now dead. 300,000 of the same Pakhtuns who sacrificed 2 million for the sake of the Stars and Stripes are refugees in their own country. What is compelling them to shoot at the choppers that only a few years ago were considered birds of mercy during the earthquake. Risk of another war: How many more American Crusades?

Obama threats kills Pakistani stock market. Billions lost. Foreign capital leaves in respone to Obama claptrap. All this does not auger well for America and its policy in West Asia. Obama blows hot and cold on Pakistan again!

Fight Global Poverty: Obama and Biden will embrace the Millennium Development Goal of cutting extreme poverty around the world in half by 2015, and they will double our foreign assistance to $50 billion to achieve that goal. They will help the world’s weakest states to build healthy and educated communities, reduce poverty, develop markets, and generate wealth. Barack Obama website

Barack Obama’s website is full of rhetoric. However he is long on promise and short on substance. He is big on running an armored cab service to pick up tall bearded men, but has not vision to build schools, hospitals and roads in the turbulent areas of the Pakistan Afghan border

Pakistan-Iran ties: Shifting sands, tectonic shift or Anti-US axis? Pakistan and Iran are working on the Iran-Pakistan pipeline without India. Iran is also providing Pakistan with 1000 MW of electricity. Iran is also going to help Pakistan build power plants. Small steps that may grow into lasting relationship.

Pakistanis to USA: We want “Friends Not Masters”. Pakistan is moving towards Iran, and if this relationship is consecrated as an alliance, the US access to Central Asia will be blocked for generations.

“Sen. Obama likes to talk loudly. In fact, he wants to announce that he’s going to attack Pakistan — remarkable.”McCain

Senator Obama’s malarky on Pakistan has emboldened the Neocons and the Bush Administration into attacking Pakistan. 30,000 Pasktuns have died as a result of the drone bombings and the assaults. 300,000 Pakistanis have had to leave their homes are are refugees in their own country as a result.

Mr. Obama is either naive or does not have a clue on what a few statements made on TV can do to the lives of millions of people. Whether he is clueless or diabolically evil, the end result is that the war is affecting millions hlaf way around the globe.

Mr. Obama, instead of his nonsensical chest thumping about Pakistan should be talking about peace initiatives in West Asia, on building Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZ) and 1000 hospitals and 5000 schools in Northwest Pakistan. Instead Senator Obama is creating another war.

Senator Obama is just as much a war monger as President Bush. the only difference is that Barack Obama wants war with different countries.

During the presidential debate, Senator Barack Obama again showed his inexperience in his rhetorical bilious blathering against Pakistan. Senator Obama’s statements clearly state show that he has no inkling on how to run US foreign policy or how to treat allies and friends. His statements if uttered by an Arab would be considered a declaration of war by Isreal and create a preemptive war. The statements are threats on the sovereignty of a fellow member of the UN and a Major Non-NATO ally (MNNA). Senator McCain is right, Senator Obama should not make these threats, which are a violation of the UN charter and contrary to US Pakistani interests.

Chagrined Pakistani and Muslim Americans rebuked Barack Obama about his nonsensical and bloody rhetoric about bombing Pakistan. This politically motivated bravado has aggravated the situation in the border area and encouraged the Bush Administration to up the ante, increase the drone bombing and even land troops on sovereign Pakistani territory. While the Democratic Party harps on the illegality of the war in Iraq, it is silent on the Obama’s bluster

Pakistani Americans should suspend all support for Senator Obama protesting his obnoxious claptrap

Washington, Oct 8 (PTI) US Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama today renewed his commitment to go after Al Qaeda militants on Afghan-Pakistan border if Islamabad is “unable or unwilling” to flush them out, while Republican John McCain warned the measure would create adverse public opinion.

Facing each other in their second Presidential debate at the Belmont University, the White House hopefuls stuck to their stated positions on combating terrorism, with Obama vowing to “kill Osama bin Laden” and “crush the Al Qaeda” terming it America’s security priority.

“If we have Osama bin Laden in our sights and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take them out, then I think that we have to act and we will take them out,” the 47-year old senator from Illinois said.

“We will kill bin Laden. We will crush Al-Qaeda, that has to be our biggest national security priority,” he vowed.

Trailing behind the Democratic candidate in the latest polls, McCain accused Obama of announcing a war on Pakistan and cited former US president Theodore Roosevelt’s statement that the commander-in-chief should “talk softly, but carry a big stick.” Obama had “announced that he will attack Pakistan,” McCain said, adding that cross border attacks would rally public opinion in the South Asian country against the US.

“Senator Obama likes to talk aloud,” the 72-year-old said, advocating an approach of cooperation with the long-standing US ally.

“We need to get them to work with us and turn against the Taliban and others… By coordinating our efforts together, not threatening to attack them,” the Arizona senator said.
Obama, meanwhile said McCain’s hardline stand on Iran and North Korea itself contradicted his advocation of soft speaking. PTI

Barak Obama trying to prove his manhood has been the most aggressive candidate about attacks on Pakistan

When Obama first raised the prospect of unilateral military action, under certain conditions, against the Al Qaeda senior leadership in Pakistan during a Democratic primary debate last August, both his rivals and the press criticized him — not necessarily for being wrong, but for making the argument in public. “You shouldn’t always say everything you think when you’re running for president,” Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) responded, “because it could have consequences across the world.”

Reflecting on the controversy several months later, Ben Rhodes, a member of Obama’s foreign-policy inner circle, called it a “seminal moment.” “No one [of Obama's critics] had thought through the policy because that was the quote-unquote naïve… position, so they said it was a bad position to take,” Rhodes remembered. Obama, by contrast, “himself said, ‘No, I’m right about this!’”

Not surprisingly then, Obama stuck to his guns on Friday, calling conditionalized strikes “the right strategy.”

Foreign-policy experts, however, aren’t so sure. They point to the risk of destabilizing Pakistan — even as they note that the new military, civilian and intelligence leadership in Islamabad expresses little appetite for going after Al Qaeda and Taliban elements in the autonomous tribal areas bordering Afghanistan, where Osama bin Laden and his lieutenants are believed to be Washington Independent

This is what John McCain says. It is OK to do whatever possible inside Pakistan…just don’t talk about it.

For his part, it is not clear what Sen. John McCain’s position is on attacking Al Qaeda in Pakistan. In the debate, he attacked Obama not on the merits of the argument, but for “say[ing] that out loud,” an echo of Clinton’s argument.

In his most substantive comment, McCain said “If you have to do things, you have to do things, and you work with the Pakistani government.”

But when his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a Pennsylvania voter “if that’s what we have to do stop the terrorists from coming any further in [to Afghanistan], absolutely, we should,” McCain effectively overruled her, saying it would be “gotcha journalism” to conclude anything other than that “Gov. Palin and I agree that you don’t announce that you’re going to attack another country.” Washington Independent

In order to stop Islamic extremists, those terrorists who would seek to destroy America and our allies, we must do whatever it takes and we must not blink, Charlie, in making those tough decisions of where we go and even who we target. Palin

“Palin spoke to one patron’s friend on his cell phone, and answered a couple of questions on Pakistan from another. Michael Rovito asked her specifically whether U.S. forces should cross the border from Afghanistan to Pakistan. “If that’s what we have to do stop the terrorists from coming any further in, absolutely, we should,” she said.” (First Read, 9/28/08)

Governor Palin backtracked after Senator McCain did not agree with his VP.

Yet Palin later backtracked on those statements, telling Katie Couric: “Well, as Sen. McCain is suggesting here, also, never would our administration get out there and show our cards to terrorists, in this case, to enemies and let them know what the game plan was, not when that could ultimately adversely affect a plan to keep America secure.” First Read

NATO needs 400,000 soldiers in Afghanistan. According to British and American General, even that would not be enough to defeat the Taliban. No country or group of countries have that amount of manpower to spare. The financial crisis in America and Europe makes it virtually impossible for the UK to send in an additional 30,000 troops to Afghanistan. The Europeans and NATO is unable and unwilling to continue the war in Afghanistan.

There is not military solution to the Afghan quagmire. We have been advocating a more comprehensive solution for a decade. Replacing Mr. Karzai with Zalmay Khalilzad is like moving the deck chairs on the Titanic. The whole game is over. The US and European media too busy with the US elections has still not caught up with the reality of the fiasco in Kabul. The end is near.

Rupee News for several years has proposed that the Pakhtun areas of Afghanistan should be handed over to the Pakistani military and NATO and ISAF should leave Pakistan. ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – For many Pakistanis, the battle for the White House raging in the U.S. is less about the differences between the two candidate’s qualifications to be president, and more about which of the two is more likely to stop sending missile-firing drone aircraft from across the border in Afghanistan into Pakistan’s tribal areas.

And in that regard, many Pakistanis are overwhelmingly in favor of Sen. Barack Obama.

Many believe that Obama will be a friend to Pakistan and change the Bush administration’s policy of “hot pursuit” of terrorists inside their borders.

VIDEO: Pakistanis differ over whether an Obama or McCain White House will be best

Even more surprisingly, more than a few of the Pakistanis we spoke with were convinced that Obama is Muslim because his middle name is “Hussein,” and therefore believe he may be more sympathetic to Pakistan if he were president.

“Barack Obama is for Muslims,” said Osman Ali, an 18-year-old high school student in Islamabad. “I am sure he will withdraw U.S. forces from our borders and that’s why I hope he will win.”

Nazim Hussain, a medical student, echoed Ali. “Obama will not be like Bush,” he said. “Bush had an aggressive policy towards Muslims and I’m sure that Obama will be different.”

But if these Pakistanis had listened to the first presidential debate between the two candidates, they might have been surprised. Obama and Sen. John McCain were at odds over Pakistan – with McCain taking a softer stance.
Difference of approach
According to Obama, the U.S. has to deal with Pakistan in a tougher manner. Pakistan has received $10 billion in U.S. military aid and assistance and the Pakistanis have not done what needs to be done to get rid of the terrorist safe havens inside their borders.

“If the United States has al-Qaida, bin Laden, top-level lieutenants in our sights, and Pakistan is unable or unwilling to act, then we should take them out,” Obama said during the first presidential debate on Sept. 26 when a question by moderator Jim Lehrer about Afghanistan lead to the issue of Pakistan.

McCain said such threats were unhelpful. “We’ve got to get the support of the people of – of Pakistan,” he said. He countered by stressing the need to work with the Pakistani people to help them get the border area under control.

“We’re going to have to help the Pakistanis go into these areas and obtain the allegiance of the people. And it’s going to be tough,” he said.

In spite of McCain’s call for a new strategy in dealing with Pakistan, Salima Agha, a savvy businesswoman in Islamabad, had no time for a McCain presidency.

“I’m for Obama,” she said. “He’s young, he’s energetic and he represents change.” She added, “He’s the JFK of the 21st century.”

‘The U.S. policy will always be against us’

But Kulsoom Mirza, a mother of four who lives in an upscale Islamabad neighborhood, thought both candidates were highlighting strikes inside Pakistan as a way to win votes.

“Neither candidate will be good for Pakistan,” she said. “God forbid that the U.S. will do to us what they have done to Afghanistan and Iraq. But it seems to me and to my family that the U.S. is intent upon destroying Pakistan as well,” she said.

Mirza’s views seemed to have widespread support among Pakistanis from all walks of life.

Raja Khalid, a marketing manager in Rawalpindi, agreed when asked about his views on the U.S. presidential candidates.

“It is up to the American people to decide who will be their president, Pakistan has nothing to do with it,” said Khalid. “But one thing I know for sure, the U.S. policy will always be against us –that will never change.” He added, “We need to distance ourselves from America.”

Others echoed Khalid’s sentiments and seem to see the U.S. as more of a menacing threat than an ally.

“The Americans are enemies of Muslims,” said Muhammed Shabbir, who works in a laundry shop in Rawalpindi. “They do not wish us well; the Americans want to destroy us,” he said.

Shabbir, who spoke in Urdu, the native language of Pakistan, grew impatient from the question as much as from the heat inside the small shop as he labored over a hot iron.

“Look,” he told us, “The U.S. is responsible for all the terrorism taking place inside Pakistan today,” he said, his voice becoming agitated. “The U.S. is the mastermind of all our problems because it wants to destroy Pakistan,” he said.

Not mincing words, Agha, the business woman in Islamabad, said, “The U.S policy is just all wrong. The Bush administration’s policy is just all wrong.”

“How could the U.S. expect to invade and occupy two Muslim countries and not expect repercussions,” she said. “And now they see what they have sowed.” (http://worldblog.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/10/07/1500617.aspx)

Obsiquous Dems kowtow to GOP Telecom lobby again

ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE IS ONE MORE MOVE TOWARDS BIG BROTHER CONTROL

NEW YORK, June 21st, 2008, Rupee News: FISA was passed as a way to control the Nixonite eavesdropping of political opponents. It has now been demolished. In many ways, the Republicans are better than the Democrats. At least with the Republicans we know where they stand. The Democrats on the other hand regurgitate a lot of rubescent grandiloquence but in the end they vote the same as the Republicans, which re-enforces the age old adage “there’s not a dimes worth of difference between the Republicans and the Democrats”.

FISA

The obsequious servile Democrats that gave President Bush the blanket authority to wage perpetual mimetic war have once again prostrated themselves to the Telcom industry. The same sycophantic Democrats that abrogated the sanctity of Habeaus Corpus have once again recumbented to the commercial interests of lobbies. The same toadying Democrats that approved the Patriots Act which has entire paragraphs lifted from Nazi laws also ossified Rendition of prisoners to foreign lands. The same subservient Democrats funded Gitmo have once again kowtowed to the special interests in Congress. These acts  which reduce the freedom bestowed upon us an an “inalienable right” by our glorious constitution.

Jackass DemocratsThe Patriot Act and its successor Patriot Act II was meant to nab OBL. It nabbed Govorner Spitzer and thousands od other innocent victims. The denouement of the liberties in the home of the free and the reduction of freedoms in the land of the brave are a dangerous trend towards Fascism where the ideas for internment as propogated by the likes of Michelle Malkin become mainstream.

FISA cartoon

In 1936, Orwell fought on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War. Out of this came, crucially, his strong antipathy to Stalinism and the enduring belief in Democratic Socialism that inspired Animal Farm (1945), a political fable (“all men are equal but some are more equal than others”) based on post-tsarist Russia. This was followed by Nineteen Eighty-Four itself, a powerful, disturbingly prescient allegorical novel that denounced Stalinist totalitarianism and has become the standard modern reference for opposition to statist control and oppression.

Shortly after it was published, Orwell died of tuberculosis in 1950. Without him we would understand ourselves less and be less brave against tyrannies. The Times Online

Democrats vs. RepublicansThe Democrats are long on rhetoric but when it comes to liberty or war they are beholden to the same lobbies that try to purchase our Congress.

A writer ceases to be iconoclastic and becomes iconic when he is subsumed into the fabric of the society that he criticises. In the case of George Orwell, his most powerful work, Nineteen Eighty-Four, is cited not only by radical leftists and reformist liberals (his natural allies), but nostalgically and romantically by a Tory prime minister attempting to evoke an England secure in its traditional values and ironically by populist, raucously postmodern television shows such as Big Brother and Room 101. The Times Online

The House of Representatives easily approved a compromise bill setting new electronic surveillance rules that in effect shield telecommunications companies from lawsuits arising from the government’s post-Sept. 11 warrantless eavesdropping on phone and computer lines in this country. The bill, which was passed on a 293-129 vote, does more than just protect the telecoms. The update to the 30-year-old Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act is an attempt to balance privacy rights with the government’s assertion that some wiretapping is necessary to protect the country against terrorist attacks in an era of fast-changing technologies.

President Bush praised the bill, saying, “It will help our intelligence professionals learn enemies’ plans for new attacks.”

The House’s passage of the FISA Amendment bill marks the beginning of the end to a months-long standoff between Democrats and Republicans about the rules for government wiretapping in the United States. The Senate was expected to pass the bill by a large margin, perhaps as soon as next week.

Is the handshake real and sincere?

Obama figures out Pakistan-finally!

Is the handshake real and sincere?| NEW YORK | RUPEE NEWS | May 5th, 2008 | Moin Ansari| Pakistanis to USA: We want “Friends Not Masters”

Bruce Riedel: Much of Pakistan’s problems originate in Afghanistan

- PakistanWhere in the world is Osama Bin Laden? In the past two years, Barak Obama has made strange and weird statements about “Taking out Pakistani Nuclear weapons.”, and taking unilateral action inside Pakistani territory. These hawkish remarks caused much consternation in Pakistan, South Asia and the Middle East, and must have cost Mr. Obama much of the Muslim and Pakistani-American vote in the USA. Pakistanis want to hear “Thank You” from the ingrate Americans. Nothing is good enough! Perhaps Mr. Obama has learned the dangers of Perpetual Mimetic warfare.

If Mr. Obama wants to see a list of Pakistani concerns, he should look at the acitons of the Bush administration.

0) Pakistan is the most abused ally of the US. The rude “DO MORE” mantra has to stop.

1) The US threatened to bomb Pakistan into the stone age and imposed a list of demands to Pakistan.

2) After the fall of the Taliban, the USA imposed a anti-Pakistan, minority, Non-Pashtun government in Kabul.

3) India and Indian agenst were given free access to Afghanistan and she built 4 “consulates” and 13 “information centers” in Afghanistan which provided support to anti-Pakistan elements.

4) The USA sold F-16s worth $450 million to Pakistan. Neither the planes nor the money was ever returned to Pakistan.

5) While a Nuclear deal was offered to India, Pakistan was not allowed to deal with its severe shortage of electricity.

6) The US has been an unfair broker in Kashmir and that problem has not been resovled.

7) The aid provided to Pakistan is “peanuts”. Afghanistan, Turkey, Iraq was offered aid many times the amount given to Pakistan which is considered the front-line state.

8) Pakistan needs 10,000 schools, 1000 hospitals, 200 new universities, 50,000 miles of roads, 5 airports, drinking water, sewage lines, and bus and train transportation. Aid should be geared towards this.

US Pakistan FlagThe US invasion of Pakistan. Another Green domino being destabilized. The Pakistani reaction will be vocal and bloody.

US Pakistan Flag….Pakistanis are not stupid and have their nukes hidden”

About the inane discussion of taking out Pakistan’s Nuclear weapons.”Needless to say Mr. Barak Obama was not very popular in Paksitan. Dr. Shahid Mahmood, a rexpected and influential journalist on his Pakistani GEO TV show rated Mr. Obama the least friendly to Pakistan candidate after Hillary and McCain. Obama visited Pakistan. Discussion of taking out Pakistani nukes: The White House should immediately repudiate this aggression and arrest Anti-Americansim”.There is a general feeling that Republicans are generally more friendly to Pakistan. The Democrats don’t get it.

On deconstructing the wrong paradigm. Why the US Think Tank industry is wrong!

ROZ Pakistani mapPakistan US Relations should be normal not transactional”.Now we hear some sanity from Mr. Obama with regard to Islamabad based on mutual respect and a hand of friendship. On inadequate US Aid to Pakistan”

Perhaps it was the outburst by Mrs Clinton that brought some sense to Mr. Obama.

America: Say Thank You” Maybe it was the reality of the new government that has forcefully informed that CIA that drones will not be permitted on Pakistani soil. Maybe Mr. Obama has been listening to Mr. Biden or other sane politicians on the hill.Wish List from Pakistan to Santa America”

WASHINGTON: Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has said that there are new opportunities with the establishment of a new government in Pakistan and there ought to be better focus in hunting down the Al-Qaida.

“We now know that Al-Qaida is stronger than any time since 2001. We’ve just received additional intelligence reports from our agencies showing that they are growing in capability. That is something that we’ve got to address,” Senator Obama said.

“We’re also going to have to address the situation in Pakistan, where we now have, in the federated areas, Al-Qaida and the Taliban setting up bases there,” he said.

Obama said,” With a new government in Pakistan, we have an opportunity to initiate a new relationship. We’ve got to send a signal to them that we are interested in national security, but we also recognize they’re interested in figuring out how do they feed their people and how do they prosper economically.”

“Instead of just focusing on our issues, we’ve got to focus on some of theirs, so that we can get better cooperation to hunt down Al-Qaida and make sure that does not become a safe haven for them,” Obama said.

Obama had earlier said that his administration will take unilateral actions in the northern areas of Pakistan in the face of actionable intelligence.

Sex Scandal of the century! Hillary's Lesbian lover-Huma Abedin?

LA Times Sitting on Explosive Prez Candidate Story?

Did Huma Abedin get paid $700,000 for consulting fees or for hot lesbian sex with Hillary?

What about Bill? This is a story about Bill Clinton’s affair (http://rupeenews.com/2008/06/03/bill-clintons-affairs-with-gina-gershon-belinda-stronach/)

http://www.nypost.com/seven/10212007/photos/p6g.jpg

Huma was born in Michigan to an Indian father and a Pakistani mother. She interned at the White House in the mid-90s and graduated from GW. If she goes on to become Chief of Staff it is entirely possible that she could broker a lasting peace in South Asia by helping to end the Kashmiri conflict. I’m just saying, if I was at the negotiation table I’d commit to any concession she proposed. Let’s give peace a chance.

Huma Abedin rumor The Times of London was the first paper to report on the Huma Abedin / Hillary Clinton lesbian rumor. What do you want to say to the Times editor?Do you believe the rumors: Are Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin lesbian lovers?

Pravda: The official pre-election campaign has not started in the United States yet, but the unofficial version of it full of rumors and slander is in full swing already. Candidates running for presidency in the USA have been defamed in all possible ways. Anonymous emails, regular mail letters, leaflets stuck on buildings and underneath windshield wipers accuse the candidates of most grievous sins imaginable.

H-squared (Huma and Hillary) – can the dynamic duo appeal to middle America?

The August issue of American Vogue featured an article on Huma Abedin, the traveling chief of staff for presidential hopeful, Hillary Clinton. As observed on Gawker http://gawker.com/news/huma-abedin/, the Vogue article is lengthy but lacks substance similar to the Observer piece in April. Huma is characterized in short as a control freak, beautiful and a force to be reckon with. Yet, there isn’t much evidence of her intellect and capabilities outside of showing composure in designer clothes and accessories and having a keen understanding of political dynamics in the Middle East having lived there until her teens and raised by parents who are professors and of Indian and Pakistani descent. She has worked for Clinton as an intern/aide since graduating from George Washington. I just don’t see how she can be sought out for her expertise in matters related to the Middle East when she hasn’t worked in an objective international capacity outside of being Clinton’s aide. If she has, the authors of the artices in Vogue and the Observer should have pointed that out rather than rely on just the opinions of others. How about demonstrating the woman’s true smart rather than focusing on how smart and polish she looks in an Yves Saint Laurent suit?

It is worrying too that high power people in Washington like Senator Clinton is heavily relying on the advice of people who haven’t had extensive professional experience in international politics. Even if she grew up in the Middle East, I think that things have changed drastically in the 12+ years she has been away in Washington at college and working for Clinton. Somehow I don’t think that growing up in Saudi Arabia was so bad.

I’m sure that Senator Clinton have some very smart people working for her which makes me surprise that they allow such articles to be printed. Not so much the fact that the articles has a lot of fluff painting Huma as a super-woman, a wonder-kid. By putting forth the image of Huma and Hillary has dynamic, stylish, professional women, they are widening the gap between Senator Clinton and middle America, a weakness of her campaign. I would hope that America is ready for a woman president. However, I’m not sure if America knows how to relate to a woman presidential candidate and the fact that she’s an accomplished lawyer/politician woman makes it even worse. There’s no need to paint a perfect picture of these women to give the average Joes and Janes out there more reason to stay clear of Hillary Clinton. I hope Hillary’s team start to realize that they need to bring Hillary more down to earth to start winning the votes in areas she desperately needs.wordpress.com/tag/women-and-power/

U.S. presidential front runners defamed (theonion.com)

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton was said to have a lesbian relationship with her aide, Huma Abedin.

Reliable Source said:

I am close enough to Hillary and Huma to tell you that this “rumor” is true. It is well known inside her campaign that Hillary and Huma are an item. If you call Hillary’s residence in DC first thing in the morning, Huma answers the phone. Same thing late at night and on the road. It’s a closely guarded secret that Hillary’s inner circle guards at all costs.

See the answer here and what readers think.

Yes, this is just like a Clinton

Yes, this is just like a Clinton

A major sex scandal story involving one of the leading presidential candidates is believed to be soon published by the LA Times, Big Head DC has learned. Details are slowly trickling in through people who’ve heard about the story, and with Larry Flynt saying he’s set to reveal a “huge” sex scandal story involving a sitting senator in the coming days, the rumors seem to be gathering traction.

“So I was down in DC this past weekend and happened to run into a well-connected media person, who told me flatly, unequivocally that ‘everyone knows’ the LA Times was sitting on a story, all wrapped up and ready to go about what is a potentially devastating sexual scandal involving a leading presidential candidate,” reports Pajamas Media’s Ron Rosenbaum. “‘Everyone knows’ meaning everyone in the DC mainstream media political reporting world. ‘Sitting on it’ because the paper couldn’t decide the complex ethics of whether and when to run it. The way I heard it they’d had it for a while but don’t know what to do. The person who told me is not an LAT person and knows I write and didn’t say ‘don’t write about this.’”

Several commenters on Rosenbaum’s article strongly believe that Hillary Clinton will ultimately be revealed as a lesbian, and that the recent GQ story her campaign helped kill by threatening to withhold a Bill Clinton interview may have gone into some shocking details into her sex life.Rumors of a close Hillary relationship with one of her top aides Huma Abedin, shown above, have long been swirling. Hillary has long denied being a lesbian.

And if anyone would know, wouldn’t it be the king – er, queen – of the Village Voice:

As I recently said on MONICA CROWLEY’s radio show, whisper campaigns are claiming that HILLARY CLINTON is GAYLE KING–ing her aide de camp, the glamorous HUMA ABEDIN, an Indian/Pakistani goddess from Kalamazoo, Michigan. In other words, Hillary may be putting Huma out there in the press and purposely making her more visible as a pre-emptive strike that amounts to her hiding in plain sight. This way, no Republican can later say, “Who is this gorgeous babe who spends so much intimate time with Hillary that the Observer called her Hill’s ‘body person’? Was GENNIFER FLOWERS’s book right about Hillary’s sexual taste?” And does either of this couple have the balls to bottom?

Of course that whole scenario can’t possibly be true, since Bill and Hill have been so lovey-dovey lately for the cameras, and besides, whenever he’s been serviced by an intern—or by anyone—he’s clearly been thinking of his wife. (They’re that close.) But suddenly, Huma—a sort of Muslim SALMA HAYEK—has that spread in Vogue and the accompanying write-up notes that she “oversees every minute of Senator Clinton’s day.” Every single minute? Even Gayle King takes a break now and then! (PS: If I called for comment, Hillary’s camp would surely say, “Just because two powerful women are closer than sardines doesn’t make them dykes.” And that’s so true. Look at MATT and BEN. But now that Crowley has dubbed me the head of Huma Resources, I’m going to pursue this story with every cojone I’ve got.)

A straight Democrat—sorry, that’s a segue—DNC head HOWARD DEAN, guest-starred at a “Democrats and Donuts with Dean” event in Fire Island, where there was no worry that he might outscream the screaming queens. But I was told that press attendees couldn’t write up the event, so I’ll shut up here and only say that at another point in the weekend, I told one Pines Democrat the Hillary/Huma scenario and he deadpanned, “That’s a step up from DONNA SHALALA.”

The first desi in the Oval Office?Profiles

Relax, this post has nothing to do with Bobby Jindal. Banish the thought and just bear with me for a moment. Last week, after one of the candidates I was eyeing as the potential recipient of my vote made a monumental policy blunder (which made me question everything about this candidate), I started giving a closer look to another candidate who had more sensible and educated things to say on the same issue. And that is when I decided that it was finally time (after months of my teenage-like infatuation where I contemplated the perfect post that might get her to take notice of me) to write about an awesome potential development that would take place IF Hillary Clinton goes on to win the White House. I’m talking about that goddess beautiful and capable assistant of hers, Huma Abedin. Huma currently serves as Clinton’s “body man,” similar to the character of Charlie on the show The West Wing. If she doesn’t go on to become the Chief of Staff, she would certainly remain one of Clinton’s closest advisors, with daily access to the Oval Office. From an article I first read in April:

Last June, under an oppressive sun, at a rally to save the Niagara military base at the University of Buffalo, all of New York’s top politicians—George Pataki, Chuck Schumer, Hillary Clinton—poured sweat.
Yet there was exactly one member of the wilting delegation who managed, somehow, to stay cool: Hillary Clinton’s mysterious, glamorous and eerily unflappable aide de camp, Huma Abedin.

“It was like 110 degrees outside,” recalled the source, a political aide who asked to remain anonymous. “We were all just pouring down with sweat. But I have this distinct memory of Huma traipsing in in this blue pantsuit—it was like this wool pantsuit—not a bead of sweat on her brow, not a hair out of place, with everything perfectly organized in her Yves Saint Laurent handbag.”

That sort of fantastical, supernaturally tinged tale is not unusual. Indeed, in the insular world of New York and D.C. politics, Huma Abedin has become a sort of mythical figure. [Link]

“I think she has special powers,” said public-radio broadcaster Katia Dunn, who recently crossed paths with Ms. Abedin and Mrs. Clinton at a café on Capitol Hill.
Ms. Dunn explained that she had heard about the “cult of Huma,” but had never met her. “All of a sudden, I turn around and there was this woman I now know to be Huma. And it wasn’t just that she was gorgeous—she did just sort of have this presence. She stopped me in my tracks for a second…” [Link]

For those of you who think that the “special powers” quote above is an exaggeration, check out this clip. She is as agile as a secret service agent in protecting Ms. Clinton from the attacking flags (apparently Clinton forgot to wear a flag pin on her lapel and the flags in the audience were really pissed). At the end of clip you can see her calming down some of the flags:

“This might seem too over-saccharine, but I love Huma,” said Oscar de la Renta, who is a personal friend and intensely loyal supporter of the Clintons. The legendary designer was speaking to The Observer on the phone from his compound in the Dominican Republic. He has known her for nearly a decade. Indeed, he noted, Ms. Abedin has actually been a guest at his island home. He described her as “discreet,” “loyal,” “beautiful” and “half-Pakistani.”
“She is an unbelievably feminine and gentle person, but at the same time she can accomplish so much,” offered Mr. de la Renta. He recalled that she had great style, but hastened to point out that “she’s a Muslim” and “she’s very conservative.”
“I always say I don’t want to die without seeing [Huma] in a strapless dress,” he said, with a laugh. But did the dapper dressmaker know, say, where his dream girl grew up?… [Link]

I never thought I’d have so much in common with Oscar de la Renta. Who knew? There are rumors that she once dated John Cusack for a while. That is not conservative. But honey, didn’t you watch High Fidelity? That bum is a commitment-phobe and it was always going to lead to a failed relationship. I’m not like that. I also love politics and believe in government service so we’d have a lot to talk about.

Now, as for the other rumors, I find them just disgusting. It is a combination of misogyny and racism that motivates the spreading of innuendo that Clinton is having a lesbian affair with her Muslim aide. It is dirty politics at its absolute worst (even worse than what happened to McCain in 2000). Some segment of our society (in both parties) just can’t accept one strong woman working with another without feeling threatened by it.

I’d like to conclude this post with what I predict would be some notable developments should Clinton win the Presidency and Huma accompany her to the White House:

1) Secret Service budget would be increased exponentially as it would need to staff up because of all the brown men that would suddenly become interested in seeing Clinton speak at events.

2) Peace between India and Pakistan. How could two nations that combined to form a Huma keep fighting?

3) Raghubir “the foil” Goyal would ask the White House Press Secretary, “ummm. so, how’s Huma? Did she say anything about me?” at every press briefing.

4) The Saudis would lower oil prices (Huma grew up there and could probably place a call to make it happen)

5) USINPAC would suddenly become Islamaphilic.

6) Huma action figures by Kridana.com

7) SM blogger Abhi would quit SM to run Huma fan club website

8) Secret Service would investigate Abhi…again

Dems on Pakistan: Not a dimes worth of difference!…A rebuttal

CNN is watched all over the world, and the statements and lose talks by candidates has an impact on what foreign leaders will do. The Pakistani nation, and the Pakistan military is watching this very carefully and some of this will increase Anti-Americanism in Pakistan.   This discussion can be construed as a declaration of war. This is not good for America, not good for Pakistan and not good for the world.

All the Dems have agreed to the Neocon doctrine of preemptive war and are all anti-Pakistan. Mr. Obama spoke a lot and was behaving like a front runner. Hillary Clinton did not attack him as she had done before. She had correct herself on the Pakistani elections and her earlier stupid comment that Musharraf was running for elections in February (he is not).

Mr. John Edwards also will take out OBL if he has actionable intelligence. He did later say that he would work with the Government of Pakistan.

Obama will intervene in Pakistan without Pakistan’s knowledge. He did later say that we need Pakistan’s agreement.

Bill Richardson will try diplomacy first. He wants to remove Musharraf and hand over government to an “interim government“. 11 Billion Dollars has been stolen and has not been used to fight the “GWOT“. FACT: Only $5 Billion is in aid. The rest is reimbursement for usage of facilities, transit and logistics.

Hillary Clinton wants to let Pakistan know after the missiles have been launched to avoid sparking the “paranoia” about Pakistan.  She said that stateless terrorists would be retaliated against in the state where they were. Ostensibly if OBL attacked the USA, she would retaliate against Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Pakistani response to the Dem rhetoric

General Kayani has clearly said that American troops would not be allowed on Pakistani soil. The Pakistani Ambassador to the US says that we should take the candidates speeches on Pakistan with a grain of salt. The Ambassador also refuted the New York Times story and said that the story was exaggerated. He said that Pakistan and America had agreed to cooperate and train the Frontier Constabulary Force and this was an open secret. There are about 50 American troops in Pakistan right now.

….and

Now a rebuttal……………….to the Dems…..

Pakistan is a nuclear power with intercontinental missiles—. Chris Dodd said it best “invading a nuclear power, who is an ally” is the height of stupidity.

“It’s wrong for a person running for the president of the United States to get on TV and say, ‘We’re going to go into your country unilaterally’” said Romney, and also criticized Obama’s professed willingness to talk to leaders of Iran and North Korea. “He’s gone from Jane Fonda to Dr Strangelove in one week,” he said, referring to the anti-war activist and Hollywood star, and the mad scientist in the 1964 satirical movie about nuclear warfare.

Senator John McCain, the one-time Republican front-runner now in a campaign free-fall, also rebuked Obama. “It’s naive to say we’re going to attack Pakistan without thinking it through. What if Musharraf were removed from power? What if a radical Islamic government were to take place because we triggered it with an attack?”

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has deplored recent suggestions the US should bomb Pakistan’s tribal areas in the hunt for Al Qaeda, if it fails to get satisfaction from Pakistan. She said on Saturday Pakistan and the US are collaborating in the war against global terrorism, adding, “The Pakistan government is sincere about its responsibility in the tribal areas. Pakistan is acting as a sovereign nation and the Pakistani military has lost lives in the effort against those who would be in that region to do harm.”

“We can do no more than this in war against terrorism. No one should expect more than what we are doing”, Foreign Minister of Pakistan Mr Kasuri declared. “We are asked to do more in war on terror. We make it clear we can do no more beyond this nor any such expectations be made from us. These statements ” do more, do more, are also improper.

Mr. Kasuri cautioned such statements would widen the gulf of differences between US and Muslim world. Pakistan security forces have full capability to strike against the terrorists inside its territory. ” We will not allow forces of any other country to launch operation inside our borders”, he underscored.

Pakistan is not a new friend of the USA. Pakistan was a  founding member of SEATO and CENTO (Asian NATOs), and a cold war ally that fought on the side of the US against the USSR. Pakistan also supported the USA in Korea and Vietnam. However Pakistan is the most mistreated “friend” in the world. It is un-American to treat friends they way the US has treated Pakistan. The USA and the West walked away from the Afghan mess and left more than 30,000 mercenary fighters that it had imported from the Arab world for Pakistan to deal with. On top of that sanctions were imposed on Pakistan right after the Afghan war, and Pakistanis felt like used “Kleenex”. The world owes Pakistan a big debt for the destruction of the USSR.

The Wazirisitan deal was approved by President Bush as not being anti-American.

In the past few years more than 1000 Pakistani soldiers have lost their lives fighting the Taliban and the Al-Qaeda. Several hundred Al-Qaeda have been sent to the USA for trial including KSM (Khalid Sheikh Muhammad), who President Bush mentioned as the mastermind of the 911.

The Taliban was a construct of the CIA and was armed by the CIA, ISI and the Saudis as a counter to a resurgent Russian-backed communist party and an antidote to the civil war in Afghanistan. Pakistan supported the Taliban in conjunction with the CIA who were arming it right up till 2000. The Taliban were visiting Governor Bush’s ranch in Texas.

I need to point out the fact that Pakistani pleas for sanity in Afghanistan were ignored in 2001. Those who want to understand the irked Pakistani must know that the in 2001 the US installed a non-Pashtun, anti-Pakistan government in Kabul. The must also know that NATO allows the puppet Karzai government to continue to bark at Pakistan. The Pakistanis also know that despite being clod war allies for 50 years, Pakistan was threatened with annihilation in 2001. They also remember that $450 million paid for F-16s was never returned.  Neither were the planes ever delivered. The delivery of Soya beans does not make up for paid-for but undelivered F-16s. Pakistanis also remember that the world and Afghanistan abandoned 2 million refugees in Pakistan. The Pakistanis also note that the world does not support the liberation of Kashmir

To put salt on open wounds, the US signed a Nuclear deal with arch-rival-India, not the major Non-NATO ally (Pakistan). Many Pakistanis wonder why $30 Billion were offered to Turkey to support war in Iraq, while Pakistan only received 1 billion to Pakistan for fighting Al-Qaeda and the Talibaan. You need to look at the situation with sanity and calm. Selective amnesia is the favorite tactic those who have an agenda. President Ayub Khan in 1966 said is best in his best selling book Pakistanis need “Friends no Masters”. Pakistanis desire want and cherish American friendship however Pakistanis are not the “little brown brothers” who can do the bidding of anyone. Pakistan is a 150 million strong nuclear state and a crucial pivot on the war on terror. President Musharraf said it quite bluntly, “no one can do more” and the West will go down on their knees and fail if Pakistan without the help of the ISI and the Pakistan army. Those who deal with Pakistan need to learn some manners and some appreciation of the sacrifice of 1000 Pakistani soldiers who died fighting the war on terror. Pakistanis are sick and tired of lectures on “do more”.Pakistan and Pakistanis cannot do more. If anyone can find others who can do more, please use them!

Actually the USA should do more in helping Pakistan and Pakistanis building a modern and moderate Muslim nation that is friendly to the world.

2 million Muslim kids died destroying the USSR. Today, Pakistan is suffering because of the failed policies of Britain and the USA. The blowback faced by many is because of the short sighted policies of London and Washington.

When the US planted an anti-Pakistan government in Kabul, Mr. Karzai (the mayor of Kabul) threatened Pakistan to cover his incompetence and inept narco-warlord government.

All military analysts agree that America cannot fight in Afghanistan without Pakistan.

Pakistan helped the US as a friend, not as a paymaster. No amount of money is enough for lost Pakistani lives. It is insensitive to place a Dollar value on the heads of 1000 Pakistani soldiers who lost their lives fighting the terrorists. It is crass to place a monetary value on the hundreds of Pakistani civilians who died because Pakistan has been supporting the American war in Afghanistan. Neither the government, nor the people nor the president of Pakistan are indentured servants of anyone. Pakistan was helping the US as a friend and an ally.

Selective amnesia fails to mention that for the past 60 years, Pakistan has been supporting American policies, and was the founding member of SEATO and CENTO. Pakistan was a cold war ally fighting the USSR and the defeat of the “Evil Empire” in Pakistan led to the implosion of the USSR. 2 million Pakistanis, Afghans and other died in defeating the USSR in the 90s. Back then Pakistan paid more than $450 for F-16s. It is a matter of historical record that Pakistan never got ht money back and did not get the planes either. Then one wonders why there is anti-Americanism in the world!

For helping the US in Afghanistan, an anti-Pakistan government was installed in Kabul that proliferated drugs and failed to take control of the country!! It is articles like this that perpetuates a feeling of un-appreciation among Pakistanis, and reinforces the image of ingrate Americans. This ungratefulness, and the “do more” mantra creates anti-Americanism in South Asia. Because of its persistently, invective, biased and bad reporting, the paper is fast becoming irrelevant as far is news is concerned.

For all of President Musharraf’s faults, Pakistan is forging ahead with a 7% growth rate and record foreign reserves. Pakistan is the fourth largest state in the world, and a nuclear state advancing at a phenomenal rate of economic growth. She has motorways that can only be the envy of South Asia, and is building bullet trains and huge new cities in Baluchistan and Sindh. Pakistan is attracting huge investments in automobile and technology. Just in the past few weeks Dubai based companies are investing $26 Billion Dollars in two islands.

The USA needs to come through on the Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZ) for the border areas and create a Marshall Plan for Pakistan

Pakistan’s FTA with China will be a boon to Pakistani and Chinese industrialists who are setting up 6 Chinese industrial zones in Pakistan to build and then export Chinese goods from Pakistani soil. Powers outside Pakistan want to destroy this friendship.

Pakistan will move ahead and is moving ahead.
