Does our media kowtow to corporate interest and interests of lobbies? Should we revive the “Equal Time” Laws to bring our media more unbiased? –as proposed by Dennis Kucinich.

    Because our media is now concentrated in the hands of 6 corporations, we have to get news and views from independent sources. This spot is one such site.

    Is ” the Orwellian 1984″ here? American International Relations Are we building an empire? Did we dump the advice of Washington, Hamilton, Roosvelt. Are the Neocons entangling us in perpetual Mimitic warfare? Is this good for America?

    Discussion of Democracy, Mobocracy, Plutocracy, Kleptocracy, Republic, Fascism. Was America created as a “Democracy”? What did the founding fathers say about Democracy? Did Socrates really repudiate democracy? Did Plato denigrate women and consider them community property? Was our declaration of independence changed from Life Liberty and Property to Life Liberty and “Pursuit of Happiness” because women would have been included as “propoerty”. Why did the Ameican Revolution deny Adult Franchise to women after the British had already given it to the colonies?

    Why does the word “Democracy” not appear in the American Constituion? Why did the founding fathers denegrate “Democracy”? Was the word “Democracy” coined in WW2 to fight Italy, Germany and Japan? Democracy and Authoritarianism in South Asia? The truth and the chimera Jefferson wanted an “Constitutional Convenion” ever 100 years. How to resolve the issues infecting American Democracy:

      India to use ‘Taliban-card’ to once again frighten Kashmiris as in 1947

      In 1947, when the freedom fighters from Pakistan were liberating the state of Jammu and Kashmir from the reins of Raja Dora Singh, India and British portrayed them as tribal invaders looting Kashmir. The result was a spread of fear psychosis among the Kashmiri population in Srinagar which helped India to pressurize the Hindu/Sikh king of Kashmir to give up the state to India.
      In 2009, the Indian media is busy broadcasting news about Taliban fighters’ crossing over to Kashmir for a final fight to free Kashmir. Along with this, Indian media is busy demonizing Taliban with reports alleging Taliban of committing atrocious crimes against the people in Swat and Afghanistan.
      Day after day Indian media is busy telecasting special programmes portraying Taliban as some sort of doomsday cult arriving into some heavenly paradise. Indian news channels like ‘Headlines Today’ and its Hindi version ‘Aaj Tak’, which often collaborate with ‘Geo TV’ in spreading anti-Pakistan news, are running one-hour special shows with old video clips and pictures to tag Taliban as a covert ISI-Pakistan Military war machine against India.
      The present strategy of Indian government is similar to what had happened in 1947. In1947, the pro-Indian groups in Kashmir was under Sheikh Abdullah, who was a friend of Nehru and was made the Chief Minister of J&K for his pro-Indian political works in the valley. It was Abdullah who successfully sold the story of ‘Pakistani looters’ in order to persuade the king to give away Kashmir. Now, the chief minister of Indian Occupied Kashmir is Omar Abdullah, who is the grand son of Sheikh Abdullah and who got this post because of the support of Nehru’s Indian National Congress, and India is presently lead by Sonia Gandhi, the grand daughter-in-law of Nehru.
      The old Nehru-Abdullah nexus is back with the new generations using new tools to intimidate the Kashmiri population to enslave themselves to the corrupt leadership in Kashmir and Delhi.
      The new ‘Taliban scare’ tactics launched by Indian media is similar to the ‘Communists scare’ and the ‘Muslim scare’ launched by various media corporations, especially the ones owned by half-Jew Rupert Murdoch, in the US.

      Danny Boyle may have become the star of the cinema world by his new movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, but he may not have earned the same accolades from India. After several Bollywood figures bashing SM as an ordinary Bollywood-movie made by a British, it is now the turn of India’s right-wing Hindutva groups to attack ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and the Oscar awards it has received. The accusations from these organizations can be spread over a spectrum of naïve ones to very serious accusations.
      The rejection of the movie by right-wing Hindutva political organizations is based on the idea that this movie tarnishes the image of India created by the ‘India Shining’, ‘Incredible India’, ‘India Inc’ or ‘Corporate India’ campaigns run by successive Indian governments and various Indian firms. The film has been accused of portraying India as a dangerous place filled with all anti-social elements of the contemporary society.
      Even graver are the attacks on this film by other non-political right-wing organizations, which accuse Danny Boyle and his team of lacking any respect for Indian culture. These organizations have also accused the film of being a ‘Christian – Islamic’ or ‘Western – Mumbai underworld’ conspiracy for defaming the Mumbai city and the country on the basis of certain trivial incidents. The fact that the film crew fall into a narrow category adds some credibility to their questions. A part of the film crew, like Boyle himself, is European or American while another part of the crew, like Dev Patel, is of western origin or has had too much exposure to western culture. When it comes to Indians in the film crew, some like A R Rahman, Rasool Pookutty,Gulzar and Irffan Khan are Muslims, while crew members like Anil Kapoor have been accused of being connected to Mumbai crime world through Dawood Ibrahim. There are also allegations about the distribution of Oscars for this film as the right wing organizations view it as an effort to highlight the dark side of India. Right wing groups are also against the portrayal of Muslim characters in the movie as victims and Hindu characters as oppressors and exploiters.
      Supporting the above mentioned attacks on the movie, several Maharastra and Mumbai based regional organizations have accused the film of tarnishing the image of the Dharavi slums by portraying the slum-dwellers as criminals and thugs. They are also slamming the film for giving an ‘unbalanced account’ of the Mumbai riots by portraying the Muslims in the city as the only victims.
      Certain right-wing cultural associations have accused that eminent film makers and cinema workers like Amitabh Bachahn and Shah Rukh Khan, for their movies like ‘Ekalavya’ and ‘Swadees’ have been always kept away from the Academy Awards, with exception to the Life-time Achievement Award to Satyajit Ray. These groups have also accused the Academy of racism for not awarding Manoj Night Shyamalan, for his Golden-Globe winning movie ‘The Sixth Sense’, and ‘Lagaan’ in the Foreign Language Film Category.
      The sources from inside the right-wing organizations circles indicate that the film may be used as propaganda by these groups to highlight the need for putting up safe guards against the influence of western media, culture and society on Indian society. Even some activists have gone so far enough to ask the government to impose stringent import duty on the Oscar awards received by Rahaman and Rasool.

        Thank you for visiting our site and asking questions.

        Of course your questions “loaded questions” which means that they stem from your paradigm. It is not your fault, it is the fault of the Hinduvta media and the “secular” (read Hinduism light) brainwashing you are subjected to K-12 and on a daily basis.

        We know that your questions are “rhetorical questions” which means that you really don’t want answers, you simply want to make statements and score points.

        However we will give you the benefit of the doubt and respond to you in an open and honest manner.

        1) Let us first begin with the Bharati paradigm, and this may make it a bit more clearer to you. According to the Prime Minister Manmohan SIngh, the biggest threat facing Bharat right now is the Naxalite insurrection which encompasses more than 40% of Bharati territory. Entire swathes of land in the Northeast (7 sisters) and huge chunk of territory from Nepal down to Andhara Pradesh are in the hands of the Dalits, the Naxalites and the Maoists. Half the Bharati army is embroiled in Kashmir with no end in sight. Does this mean that the Bharati army has surrendered?

        Now to discuss Swat. There is a group of disgruntled people in Swat who want expeditious justice and not be bothered with delayed and cumbersome which was not as good as the older “sharia system” which was part of Swat when it was a state (pre-1969). Bharat has sent saboteurs into Swat to attempt to destabilize Pakistan. This has resulted in the blowing up the Islamabad Marriott and other despicable acts of horror carried out by RAW and their proxies.

        The deal with the Swatis is to bring back the shariah law which they like and to end the infiltration of mercenaries from Afghanistan, trained and armed by the Indian Consulates in Afghanistan.

        2) Your second question is poignant and very important in the current situation. Amazingly the militants have been able to avoid and evade Pakistani attempts to hold them. This shows a sophistication that cannot be expected from cave dwellers. Their FM radio also include the latest in FM technology. One many occasions the Pakistani establishment gave the exact coordinates of the militants to the US, but the US did not attack them. This shows a RAW-CIA liaison which has now been defeated.

        3) Your third question is an enigma for which Mr. Zardari will have to pay a very heavy political price. That is the best case scenario. These actions are not tenable and the drones will soon be shot down.

        4) The future of Pakistan is not what you think it is going to be. Bharat was on the wrong side of history during the 80s with it supported the USSR and did not support Afghanistan. It is again on the wrong side of history supporting the puppet regime of Karzai. The USA is ready to withdraw from Afghanistan. AfPak is the buzzword for the inevitable union between Afghanistan and Pakistan. One the US leaves, Pakistan and Afghanistan will control all of Central Asia. Hillary Clinton recently jilted India and made robust promises to China–reversing the Bush policy of propping up India against China. Rising tides lifts all boats. With China the next superpower (india missed the boat–read Prag Khanna) Pakistan will rise as never before. Bruce Reidel, David Milliband and even Barack Obama have talked about resolving Kashmir. In fact Mr. Holbrooke is actually an envoy for Kashmir under a different name. With Kashmir resolved, a free Afghanistan and an FTA with China, the future is bright much to the chagrin of the Akhand Bhartis.

        Bharat should pray and work for a strong Pakistan–imagine 160 million angry Taliban types on the border preparing for decicive the 4th Battle of Panipat.

      Book Review: ‘ The India Doctrine’

      Adorned in a saffron red jacket and embellished with a detailed map of South Asia the concept of an India Doctrine has been introduced to the readers in Bangladesh recently. The book ‘The India Doctrine’ has been published by the Bangladesh Research Forum and edited by Barrister M.B.I. Munshi and is priced at Tk. 300. Munshi’s contribution to the book constitutes the largest section with several other writers from Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka providing some useful and informative chapters.

      The book comes complete with a foreword written by esteemed scholar, Professor Ataur Rahman of Dhaka University who sets the theme of the book. We are reminded by Prof. Rahman that while India might have its own rationale for framing its regional policy compatible with its national interests, the fact remains that constant apprehensions, mistrust and tensions between India and the smaller neighbors including Bangladesh had its negative effects on any meaningful cooperation and security in the region.

      This introduction neatly moves us into the chapters written by Munshi which are a series of discussions that covers the relations between India and East Pakistan/Bangladesh from 1947 to the present. It attempts a historical and geo-strategic appraisal of relations between the two countries but also offers a more wide ranging analysis involving the Indian external intelligence operations in Bangladesh and outside. The central idea of the chapters when taken as a whole appears to be that the India Doctrine as implemented by successive administrations in India is not limited to simply harming the economic interests of [its neighbours] but also has a historical and intellectual underpinning that comes from the thoughts and writings of Jawaharlal Nehru and Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar amongst others. The idea of a United India (or an ‘Akhand Bharat’) according to the author is still a goal of Indian policy making in South Asia.

      Prof. Rahman is forced in his foreword to contend that this thesis may seem implausible and ‘far-fetched’ but also points out that Munshi supplements his ideas with an exhaustive and elaborate set of references and notes to back up his argument. However, a defect in this intricate framework of references is that the chapters lack a bibliography which would have made it easier to verify the arguments advanced by the author. The chapters also seems to be hampered by the fact that they were written originally as a 3 part article and the author clearly has had some difficulty in framing his arguments within this constriction. However, as we all know Francis Fukuyama and Samuel Huntington both started their seminal works in a similar manner with articles in prominent journals before they were rendered into book form and this does not seem to have affected the stream of their discussion and thoughts.
      As this may be, the principle cause of disquiet will certainly be Munshi’s interpretation of significant historical events and his commentary on the motivations of characters such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Ayub Khan who are all now long dead. I was certainly surprised by some of his findings but it was difficult to find fault here as most of his views are backed-up with thorough research and investigation. His chapters on the 1971 war and the insurgency in the CHT are probably the most tantalizing in terms of historical data and comparisons.

      Some of Munshi’s arguments are further buttressed by a short chapter by Khodeza Begum who makes reference to events that occurred during the 1990’s related to clandestine meetings held in Dhaka concerning the reunification of the subcontinent. In her chapter, there is an extensive discussion on the policies being pursued by the Indian government that according to her is detrimental to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bangladesh. She analyses the concept of a United Bengal that has featured in some of the Indian political literature in recent years. She has also summarized the tactics and strategies adopted by the Indian government and its intelligence agency to undermine the unity of Bangladesh and to inculcate the population of the country with a perspective adverse to the nations integrity.

      Although solidly written there is a problem with the length of the chapter as well as the dated materials used by the author. A more contemporary approach may have served better but the evidence seems irrefutable and the author should update her research before a second edition is considered.

      In a sudden change of location Brig. Gen. M. Sakhawat Hossain inexplicably takes us all the way to the Indian Ocean and the emerging strategic scenarios being played out in the area. One may legitimately question the relevance to the overall context and theme of the book but the author makes this abundantly clear when he remarks that rivalries in the South Asian region are primarily based on events in 1971 and India’s intent on dominating the region has had to appreciate the ground realities that this cannot be achieved alone. Hossain expertly explains the intricate alliances being forged in the region and the importance of the Indian Ocean in the strategic thinking of India , China, the USA and Pakistan. His comments on the North-East insurgency and the recent uprising in Nepal are highly commendable and very insightful especially in the latter case where he had visited prior to writing the chapter.

      Following the chapters by the Bangladeshi authors mentioned above come the section written by the Nepali writers. In the case of Madan Prasad Khanal, Nishchal Basnyat and Sanjay Upadhya their contributions to the book are highly articulate, elegant and almost near impeccable. Each author discusses differing aspects of Indian interference and intervention in Nepali internal affairs and in some cases provides possible solutions to these problems. But with a clear conception of the implications of Indian domination on Nepal Dr. Shastra Dutta Pant appeared a little confused in his expressions.

      The final chapters of the book are by two Sri Lankan writers Dr Rohan Gunaratna and Arbinda Acharya. Both writers collaborated to produce a single chapter on the Sri Lankan attitude to Indian interference or as the authors themselves put it, “India’s involvement in Sri Lankan ethnic imbroglio has been one of the most controversial, ironic as well as tragic aspects of New Delhi’s foreign policy.” While concentrating on the Sri Lankan situation the writers also manage to draw in examples from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan to back up their case on Indian aspirations in South Asia. Of significance is the Indian involvement in the protracted and apparently insoluble conflict with the Tamils. The chapter also involves a geostrategic appraisal of Sri Lanka and its growing relationship with China and Pakistan. It is unfortunate therefore that the authors were not as forceful about Indian interventions in Sri Lanka especially during the time of the premiership of Rajiv Gandhi. The chapter seems somewhat apologetic about Indian intervention rather than condemnatory which would have been an appropriate response from Sri Lankan nationals.
