Pakistan, as current president of the UN Security Council, is expected to raise the Kashmir issue at the UNSC. It may also bring up the the Cease Fire Line firings to the international table. Bharat is stepping down from the UNSC after two years with a lackluster performance at the UNSC.
Bharat came to the UNSC after a gap of 18 years and was under a fair amount of international scrutiny because Bharat has a stated desire to become a permanent member of the UNSC–something that was promised to Bharat by Preisdent Obama in Delhi. That was a long time ago, and there has been no movement in that direction by Washington. It was an empty Obama promise to gain cheap publicity in Delhi. Would Bharat graduate out of its South Asia cocoon to address global problems?
With a UNSC delegation smaller than Togo, India’s resources were fully stretched and it did not live up to the expectations.
