Rupee News has predicted that NATO and ISAF will leave Afghanistan ahead of the 2014 announced deadline. Our prescient prediction is coming true. NATO has already announced that it wants to leave in 2013 or sooner. THe US forces have already begun to evacuate. 30,000 unifrmed men who made up the so called “Surge” have gone. An unknown number of mercenaries have also quit Afghanistan. It is estimated that about 100,000 mercenaries have been evacuated, and that twice that number will leave–beginning this Fall.
After more than a decade of fruitless war, Australian combat operations in Afghanistan are set to all but end by December.
According to Australian news sources “The surprise announcement – that all four Afghan infantry battalions in Oruzgan are expected to begin operating independently by December – was made by the Defence Minister, Stephen Smith, at a NATO conference in Brussels this week.
It means that aside from Australian special forces troops – and possibly a small quick reaction force based in the provincial military headquarters at Tarin Kowt – Australian combat in Afghanistan will be over come January.”
The Ozzie “the decision stands at odds with two recent bleak assessments of the war.”
While the number of Australians in Afghanistan is small, Canberra has been very vocal about the war, and the ultra-conservative nation has backed the right-wing led war in many countries. Already the Ozzies are being “withdrawn to Tarin Kowt”–where they will be relatively safer.
France is also withdrawing. We see most Europeans out of the “graveyard of empires” out by 2013. The results of the US elections will dictate how quickly the Americans begin to withdraw.
