Valor has no race, color or gender. It comes in many shades. This time it is visible in Pink. Code Pink is from what we call “My America”. God Bless them.
Code Pink represents the best of America and the best of Americans. They have protested the war in Iraq and have just started their campaign against the drone strikes against Pakistan. These brave souls represent the inner sanctum of the peace movement in America. Their presence in Pakistan goes a long way in showing the Pakistanis the voice of reason from America. Its not all about corporate profits and quarterly returns.
“We want to make it known to Pakistanis that there are Americans with a conscience who do care about their lives,..We’ve encountered some overwhelming admiration over the fact that we’re here, willing to put ourselves at risk,” Code Pink co-founder and delegation organizer, Medea Benjamin.
Code Pink is risking its sons and daughters to protest what is considered wrong and bad by many Americans. Public opinion has turned against the war in Afghanistan, but the drone strikes have not been debated much.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday collateral damage caused by drone attacks is very high as many innocent people are killed in such attacks. He was speaking to British Home Secretary Theresa Mary May in London.
Code Pink is planning to march with Imran Khan to FATA to protest the CIA drone attacks against Pakistan. PTI Organisers hope to spend Saturday night in a town outside the tribal areas and then move on to Jandola, just inside the border of South Waziristan, where they will hold a rally. Jandola is in a relatively safe part of South Waziristan. The 35 of brave American women will be mounting a hunger strike outside the US embassy in Islamabad.
Code Pink, a US anti-war group, has gathered in Islamabad this week as they prepare for an unprecedented march and political rally in South Waziristan.
On Tuesday in Islamabad, the Code Pink women met with Pakistani and US government officials, retired generals, ambassadors and General Hamid Gul the former head of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and discussed other tactics to publicise their cause.
The American women also met people from North Waziristan, other victims of the US drone campaign, who hav lost relatives to missile strikes by the remote-controlled planes.
According to press reports “The group includes Mary Ann Wright, a former US diplomat and army colonel who condemned her country’s covert drone campaign as Barack Obama’s “personal execution device”, in reference to the US president’s weekly meeting at which he is reported to choose targets for missile strikes”.
Insiders say that the Taliban have given a green signal to the march and three tribes have welcomed it. However the danger remains. Apprently General Ashfaq Kayani, has assured the PTI that if they go to South Waziristan they will remain safe. The Army had earlier convinced the PTI not to go to North Waziristan.
Code Pink was originally formed to oppose the second Iraq war, claimed its anti-drone campaign was still in its infancy. Benjamin said: “When it comes to drones, we are at the very beginning of turning public opinion against them in the US.”
