Turkish Israeli relations are at an all time low. Defense relations are at a breaking point and economic relations are not improving. In 1948 Turkey was the first country to recognize Israel, mostly as a reaction to the events of 1916-1922 at the demise of the Ottoman empire. 500,000 Arab soldiers had defected from the [...]

The IAF has admitted to 59 crashes. Analysts believe that the actual number is much higher than that. the IAF is able to hide some the accidents–but is totally exposed when the accidents occur in civilian areas. Several commissions have been established to prevent crashes. The findings describe poor training, shoddy locally manufactured parts, lack [...]

Delhi vehemently insisted on the stop-over in Delhi. This was not a scheduled visit. Mr. Karzai obliged by making a pit stop in Delhi on the way to Bhutan. However he did not give Delhi anything that the Bharati’s wanted. What was missing from the conversation was the warm affability, the effusive parise and the brotherly love that was seen in Islamabad. In Delhi, Mr. Karzai was reserved, and in so many words told his hosts, that he will continue with the Pan-Afghan solution that the international community and the neighbors have agreed to. He also told Delhi that he would talk to all the Taliban and he does not share Delhi’s opinions that the only good Taliban is a dead Taliban.

In the current scenario, the only option that seems feasible and probably acceptable to the democratic forces is declaring the administrative Divisions in all federating units as new provinces. This option would strike ethnicity, language, ethnicity, history and all other factors out of the equation. The division will also spare the people and the country of the consequences they will be made to bear otherwise. Pakistan has 27 divisions, FATA, and Azad Kashmir. This distribution has hardly been opposed by any force in the country. So declaring Divisions as provinces after dissolution of all federating units, the capital territory, FATA, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan into 30-or-so smaller provinces, will evoke no adverse reaction. Resultantly, the federation will be strengthened and Pakistan will become more democratic and prosperous.

Islamabad has been pushing for a policy of Trade First, not Aid first. Pakistan has been asking the EU and the US for tariff free trade for a decade. The EU initially allowed free access to the EU for a couple of years, but after the initial period expired, the EU did not put a [...]

The political parties that exist in the country are really functioning like private limited companies or family concerns… congress of course is purely and unashamedly a family concern and they don’t make any bones about it, but the same problems seem to have afflicted my former political party. It has become sycophantic, full of time-servers. These are not the ideals with which we began. The purpose of the party was the service of the nation

Pakistan has gone all out for its Expo 2010 being held in Shanghai. Islamabad considers Shanghai as home turf–and spent an inordinate amount of creative energy to showcase Pakistan and attract the citizens of the future world power.
The Pakistani Expo team deserves all the encouragement that it can get for putting up a fantastic pavilion. Bharati newspapers have been forced to admit the effulgent brilliance of the people of the Indus who have provided the Chinese with the right information.

Zahid said his spontaneous reaction was to take Benazir, who was bleeding profusely, to hospital by making his way out of the crowd, but had no idea whether she was alive or not.
As Bhutto’s own SUV was badly damaged in the bomb blast, which followed the three gunshots fired at the former Prime Minister, Zahid decided to shift her into his car.

President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Zahid Maqbool Friday said there is need to utilise Thar coal as it has the potential to produce 100,000 MW for 300 years, which is the solution of the power crisis.
Should Pakistan burn coal or use coal set up carbon-chemical industry which could be utilized to export value added materials to the planet and used for domestic consumption. Burning coal is like burning sandal wood. How quickly can Pakistan wean itself off the “burning coal” paradigm–perhaps after using it to meet the immediate energy needs. A lack of vision would just burn the carbon–smart people can come up with a lot of innovation.
