Yes Its really India!! Rebuttal to Delhi apologist Pervez Hoodbhoy

  • They (the Indians) see an opportunity in Pakistan’s problems and are pedalling a parallel agenda to drum up international support to bracket Pakistan with the states that sponsor terrorism,” the sources said.
  • “On one hand, India is supplying arms to Taliban, while on the other it is pressurising Pakistan to bring terrorism to an end. It is nothing but a dual policy which is going to cause damage not only to us but to India itself,” the envoy maintained
  • “We do no see immediate chances of revival of the peace process, as instead of appreciating Pakistan’s act of arresting and beginning the trial of the alleged perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks, India has been using the incident to malign Pakistan as a hub of terrorism,” senior diplomatic sources in Islamabad said.
  • The latest statements by Indian officials only added to the worries of Pakistan. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh used his US visit to pressure Pakistan, while back home, the Indian army chief threatened Pakistan with a nuclear war scenario.

Mr. Pervez Hoodbhoy should read the open letter to Manmohan Singh before pontificating to the Pakistan nation. Open Letter to Indian PM: Can he bring peace to Asia? He should listed to Maleeha Lodhi’s advice on Afghanistan. He should scrutinize RAW-An instrument of Indian imperialism–A Bangladeshi perspective. Mr. Hoodbhoy is either a certified lunatic who doesn’t believe the Pakistani interior minister, the Pakistani Prime Minister’s statements, the Pakistani Armed services reports, and the Pakistani Intelligence Services., or he is a paid agent who wants to push his agenda. He is going through all sorts of convulsions to exonerate Bharat (aka India). What did the Dossier on RAW terrorism contain?

Why is Mr. Hoodbhoy silent about the presence of Anti-Pakistan terrorists who are [resent on Afghan soil? These terrorists are wanted by the Pakistanis authorities and are responsible for much of the bloodhed in major Pakistani cities. Mr. Hoodbhoy does not pontificate about that to the world--his only focus is to propagate the Bharati propoganda about Mumbai. Innocent Pakistani blood is not important to Mr. Hoodbhoy. He doesn't hold Delhi and Kabul responsible for anything.

India’s dark shadow on Afghanistan

Evidence against India-ISI Chief confronts Leon Panetta about stopping CIA/RAW Terror in Pakistan

Has Mr. Hoodbhoy read the latest statement by the Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan?

PAKISTAN's Ambassador to Afghanistan Muhammad Sadiq has said that India, rather than lending a helping hand in war against terror, is creating problems for Pakistan. In fact she is helping the terrorists.

In an interview with a private TV channel on Friday, Sadiq said that India should support Pakistan in the war against terror, but India was creating problems for Pakistan by raising issues like water and also supplying arms to Waziristan and Balochistan militants.

He said that concrete evidence of supply of arms to Taliban in Waziristan was present which was enough to show that India was least interested even in the war against terror, what to say of Pakistan’s success in this war. India is also meddling in Balochistan affairs, he added.

“On one hand, India is supplying arms to Taliban, while on the other it is pressurising Pakistan to bring terrorism to an end. It is nothing but a dual policy which is going to cause damage not only to us but to India itself,” the envoy maintained. He further said that India was mounting negative propaganda about Pakistan in Afghanistan due to which some elements in Afghan establishment did not like Pakistanis.

“We know who these people are and we also know this is not President Hamid Karzai’s policy. There are some countries and their agents who are against Pakistan. They are spending huge sums only to spread false propaganda.” The Ambassador also disclosed that the would-be suicide bombers caught in Pakistan were Afghans.

“The one who killed 11 of our security officials was an Afghan. All those, arrested in suicide attempts, were Afghans. It is, therefore, absolutely necessary that Pak-Afghan border should be strictly guarded and trans-border traffic should be made possible only on provision of legal documents,” he opined.

It is amazing that Mr. Hoodbhoy who constantly harps on the theme of the safety of the Pakistani nukes, but is always silent about Israeli, North Korean, Indian,  US nukes. We have never heard Mr. Hoodbhoy discuss the Pokran fizzles or the danger to Bharat from the brutal Naxal insurgency that controls 40% of Bharati territory.

Mr. Hoodbhoy is unable to see the US military defeat in Afghanistan. US offers Taliban Kandahar, Zabul, Hilmand, Orazgan Nooristan & Kunar Mr. Hoodbhoy should read the Indian analyst Mr. Bharat Verma:

To emerge as the dominant force in Asia, it is therefore, essential that offensive orientation in thinking be injected across the spectrum from a young age. This entails confronting adverse geopolitical situations differently to achieve dominance. Bharat Verma

Blackwater: Drone attacks not CIA but General McChrystal’s JSOC (US Army). We have never heard Mr. Hoodbhoy criticise the US drone bombing or the war of occupation in Afghanistan. How many Americans in their hearts are on the side of the humble families of Pakistani citizens slaughtered in Predator drone Hellfire missile attacks? We do hear from Hoodbhoy defending Bharat and her insidious campaign to export terror into Pakistan. There are universities and there are universities in Pakistan. Pakistan's top notch universities create talent that serve the best multinationals on the planet.

There are mediocre universities in Pakistan that help many organizations by providing them the right resources with the right talent. Islamabad University is an "Open Admission" third-rate campus which is known more for its after-classes extracurricular activities, moonlight parties than its day time research or intellectual capital building exercises. It has now become a nest of spies. Mr. Hoodbhoy is a thrid rate teacher at a third-rate university, who is a darling of the US media. Amazingly a obsiquious newspaper with a dwindling readership publishes the words of Mr. Hoodbhoy, other malcontents and various Thakur's, Darshan and Hullarbaaz from across the border. The claptrap of the likes of Mr. Pervez Hoodbhoy must be intellectually challenged  in columns and defeated on the airwaves. Let us analyze what Mr. Hoodbhoy says.

FOREIGN Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi says that Pakistan is “compiling hard evidence of India’s involvement” in terrorist attacks on Pakistan’s public and its armed forces.

If he and the interior minister are correct then we must conclude that the Indians are psychotics possessed with a death wish, or are perhaps plain stupid. While India’s assistance for Baloch insurgents could conceivably make strategic sense, helping the jihadists simply does not. Pervez Hoodbhoy

India’s supported President Dawood’s grandiose extraterritorial ambitions in the 1970s . Let us analyze Mr. Hoodbhoy's last statement. Even he accepts Bharati support from Baloch militants. Its the next part of his statement which causes us to smirk and be skeptical of his intentions. Is it not a matter of fact that Bharat has supported insurgencies in Lanka and Nepal. Is is not a matter of fact that Bharat created to Lashkars peppered with the key words  "Islami" and "Jihad" to sow dissension in the ranks of the Kashmir mujahideen and to malign the name of a resistance struggle in Kashmir. If Bharat can do that in Kashmir, surely it can do that in Afghanistan.

Let us now see what the Indians are saying about themselves and what they have been doing and what they should do.

India's real intentions about Pakistan. See Indian Defense Review article

The India Doctrine by Munshi

The India Doctrine by Isha Khan Dhaka Bangladesh book cover Indian intelligence: “‘the aim of RAW is to keep internal disturbances flaring up and the ISI preoccupied so that Pakistan can lend no worthwhile resistance to Indian designs in the region.”

Listing of Indian RAWs bomb blasts in Pakistan

Pakistan, Nepal, China, and Bangaladesh are RAW’s enemies. Mrs. Indira Gandhi told Henry Kissinger "NWFP belongs to India, and Punjab is on the way". Mr. Hoodbhoy can raise his credibility from below zero to the on digits numbers if he reads and responds to the writings of Mr. Bharat Verma, Mr. L.K. Adhvani, Mr. Modi or even Dr. Manmohan Singh. All of them want a weak Pakistan, and there is no other way to weaken Pakistan than by targeting its civilians and cities with bombs. Bharat did the very same in Lanka. It supported a group called the Tamil Tigers (LTTE). Delhi trainer, armed and supported the insurgents so that they could create a Pro-Indian state of Tamil Elam in Lanka. Why is Mr. Hoodbhoy silent about the insurgency in his "secular paradise"? Why is there a huge insurgency in Bharat? India fails in fight against Maoists: PM Singh

As Pakistan staggers from one bombing to the other, some Indians must be secretly pleased. Indeed, there are occasional verbalisations: is this not sweet revenge for the horrors of Mumbai (allegedly) perpetrated by Lashkar-i-Taiba? Shouldn’t India feel satisfaction as Pakistan reels from the stinging poison of its domestically reared snakes? Anti-Pakistan analysts, pro-US, and Indian apologist  Pervez Hoodbhoy. The Dawn.com

Mr. Hoodbhoy's assertions blame Pakistan for everything, and Delhi for nothing. He has not only indicted the entire Pakistani nation, he blames "Pakistan" for all evil in Bharat too. Surely he could get a job in the Indian government. Let us compare Mr. Hoodbhoy's statement with what the Indian Minister of the Interior says. He should also review the Indian Defense Review on how the Bharati Generals are planning wars against Pakistan. Indian Defense Review: Schemes against Pakistan unmasked

LAHORE: International opinion and pressure from India combined with a refusal to engage in a dialogue will force Pakistan to change its attitude towards terror groups operating from there, Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Friday. The Indian Express quoted the Indian home minister. Daily Times Monitor. Saturday, November 28, 2009,World can press Pakistan to change its ways: Chidambaram

Bangladesh fights for its life against Indian interference, intimidation & aggression to extract strategic concessions. Most Indians are very happy at every bombing in Pakistan. I have not seen any sympathy for Pakistan or the Pakistani people for the bombings either from the Bharati government officials, or the Bharati media or even from ordinary citizens from the land of Ahimsa. Any harm to Pakistan brings delight to the Bharati media. Read a Bharti paper--any paper, and it is always full of bad news about Pakistan. Why is Mr. Hoodbhoy silent about the US Installing an Anti-Pakistan government in Kabul.

Not sure which planet Mr. Hoodbhoy lives on, but the Bharati military establishment surely wants Paksitan out of the way--so that Bharat can reach Dushambe without crossing borders.

But most Indians are probably less than enthusiastic in stoking fires across the border. In fact, the majority would like to forget that Pakistan exists. With a six per cent growth rate, booming hi-tech exports and expectations of a semi-superpower status, they feel that India has no need to engage a struggling Pakistan with its endless litany of problems.

Of course, some would like to hurt Pakistan. Extremists in India ask: shouldn’t one increase the pain of a country — with which India has fought three bloody wars — by aiding its enemies? Perhaps do another Bangladesh on Pakistan someday? Anti-Pakistan analysts, pro-US, and Indian apologist  Pervez Hoodbhoy. The Dawn.com

To defend this key threat to the Union, New Delhi should extend its influence through export of both soft and hard power towards Central Asia, from where invasions have been mounted over centuries. The cessation of Pakistan as a state facilitates furtherance of this pivotal national objective.

For New Delhi this opens a window of opportunity to ensure that the Gwadar port does not fall into the hands of the Chinese. In this, there is synergy between the political objectives of the Americans and the Indians. Our existing goodwill in Baluchistan requires intelligent leveraging.

Sindh and most of the non-Punjabi areas of Pakistan will be our new friends.

Pakistan’s breakup will be a major setback to the Jihad Factory, which functions with the help of its army and the ISI. This in turn will ease pressures on India and the international community. Bharat Verma: Indian Defense Review:-(most-quoted Indian defence publication”)

Mr. Bharat Verma represents the thinking of the Indian establishment. He personifies the thoughts of not only the Saffron Brigade, he represents the mainstream Indian intellectuals and the public. His ideas of a more aggressive foreign policy have landed Delhi in the soup it is in—a belligerent Pakistan, an antagonized China, a miffed Lanka, an angry Nepal, a passively resistant Bhutan, an alarmed Maldives—even Bangladeshis consider India one of their biggest enemies.

Mr. Hoodbhoy should read the recent statements from Delhi which go beyond attempts to malign Pakistan. Could these be considered garlands of appreciation for Pakistan, or would the barbs from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh be considered bandages for the terror that his agencies are creating in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: The peace process between Pakistan and India remains in a state of limbo despite hectic international efforts to revive it, as New Delhi has refused to resume talks unless Islamabad makes “tangible” moves to punish the alleged perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks.

“We do no see immediate chances of revival of the peace process, as instead of appreciating Pakistan’s act of arresting and beginning the trial of the alleged perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks, India has been using the incident to malign Pakistan as a hub of terrorism,” senior diplomatic sources in Islamabad said.

“They (the Indians) see an opportunity in Pakistan’s problems and are pedalling a parallel agenda to drum up international support to bracket Pakistan with the states that sponsor terrorism,” the sources said.

The latest statements by Indian officials only added to the worries of Pakistan. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh used his US visit to pressure Pakistan, while back home, the Indian army chief threatened Pakistan with a nuclear war scenario.

Former foreign secretary Tanvir Ahmad Khan said Singh used very strong language against Pakistan in the US. “India believes that Pakistan is weak due to its security and economic problems and it is trying to put more pressure [on Islamabad] before resuming the peace process,” Khan said.

Pakistan and India have exchanged some of the toughest statements since the Mumbai attacks.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in an interview with a German news wire accused India of having “visceral animosity towards Pakistan”, while the Foreign Office in a statement blamed India for “preparing for a limited war”.

Defence analyst Talat Masood says India deliberately began the recent spat of tough statements to highlight the US visit of Prime Minister Singh. “It was just posturing and whenever there is such a visit, they begin Pakistan-bashing,” he said.

Khan believes India is increasing pressure on Pakistan to amend the mechanism of the composite dialogue process. Daily Times by By Sajjad Malik

The neighbors of Bharat are Hindu, Buddhist, communist, Muslim and secular. All of them hate the policies of Delhi and love the culture, the food and the music. Either every country in South Asia is wrong, or there is something fundamentally wrong with Indian thinking? The Naxals control 40% of Bharati territory do not agree with the coterie that rules Delhi.  Only history can decide whether Delhi was right, and everyone else was wrong– however the fact remains that Bharat cannot achieve regional ascendency through hegemony, and it cannot achieve global status without the help of all her neighbors.

These fringe elements, fortunately, are inconsequential today. Rational self-interest demands that India not aid jihadists. Imagine the consequences if central authority in Pakistan disappears or is sharply weakened. Splintered into a hundred jihadist lashkars, each with its own agenda and tactics, Pakistan’s territory would become India’s eternal nightmare. When Mumbai-II occurs — as it surely would in such circumstances — India’s options in dealing with nuclear Pakistan would be severely limited.  Anti-Pakistan analysts, pro-US, and Indian apologist  Pervez Hoodbhoy. Pakistan’s National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) submits proof of Indian RAW involvement in terror bombing in Pakistan. Blunt message to New Delhi to stop!

‘RAW training 600 terrorists In Afghanistan’ Senator Mushahid

India behind most terror attacks: Pakistani Interrior Minister Rehman Malik. Mr. Hoodbhoy calls the those who write policy papers for the Indian Defense establsihment as “fringe elements”. The BJP and the RSS were in power in Bharat for years. 107 Indian “Consulates” & RAW Intel Units in Afghanistan spreading terror to Pakistan.

The Indian army would be powerless. As the Americans have discovered at great cost, the mightiest war machines on earth cannot prevent holy warriors from crossing borders. Internal collaborators, recruited from a domestic Muslim population that feels itself alienated from Hindu-India, would connive with jihadists. Subsequently, as Indian forces retaliate against Muslims — innocent and otherwise — the action-reaction cycle would rip the country apart.

So, how can India protect itself from invaders across its western border and grave injury? Just as importantly, how can we in Pakistan assure that the fight against fanatics is not lost?

Mr. Hoodbhoy thinks that the Bharati Army would be powerless.  However Stephen Cohen and thousands of thinkers in Bharat have stitched together a carefully crafted ”Cold Start Strategy” which would enable Bharat to capture major Pakistani cities before a Nuclear response had been taken. India’s Cold Start Strategy and the Pakistani Nuclear Response Pakistani defense based upon Missle Nuclear deterrent Shaheed, Ghauri, Babar, & Abdali Nuclear Armeggedon in South Asia: Analysis. Mr. Hoodbhoy of courses chooses to ignore the most recent statement by the Indian Military which says that war with Pakistan would be possible–even under the umbrella of a Nuclear shadow.

We must always plan to take war to the enemy using his vulnerabilities.

Kashmir legally acceded to the Indian Union, therefore, in my mind there is no dispute. However, Tibet and Sinkiang (East Turkistan) were forcibly annexed by China. These indeed are matters of dispute.

As sovereign nations, India and Tibet did not have any major boundary dispute. Therefore, illegal occupation of Tibet by China does not bestow on it any legitimacy to raise bogus boundary claims on India.

Similarly, Baluchistan was tricked into joining Pakistan. This also can be a subject of dispute. New Delhi should learn to think differently. Bharat Verma

One has to read and listen to Mr. Bharat Verma to get an idea of how rabid the Pakistanphobes are in Bharat. Mr. Hoodbhoy lives in a fools paradise if he thinks that the threats from across the border are benign. Mr. Verma’s egregious comment about Balochistan represents Bharati designs on Pakistan. Though Mr. Verma constantly continues his drum beat of obfuscation—the fact remains that he is totally ignorant of Pakistani geography. Pakistan is successor state to the British rule. According to the Indian Act of Independence Balouchistan, as a Muslim majority area went to Pakistan. Kalat represent only a small portion of Balochistan. The state of Kalat signed an article of accession with Pakistan. Unlike the article of accession of Kashmir (which Delhi claims is now lost—as if it ever existed), the Baloch article of accession is a living document in the archives of history and seen by the world. All Baloch parties signed the 1956 constitution, the 1963 constitution and the 1973 constitution renewing their 5000 year old relationship with the Sindhis, Baloch, Pakhtuns, Punjabis and Kashmiris to continue to live together.

Hindutva’s production of culture & nation marked by savagery. Either Mr. Hoodbhoy is an imbecile (which he is clearly not), or he is an ostrich. He cannot see the writing on the wall or read Bharati intentions for Pakistan. Unfortunately the truth may be a bit more sinister. When Imran Khan accused Mr. Hoodbhoy of treason, he also asked him to divulge the source of his income and who his paymasters were, mr. Hoodbhoy became extremely belligerent. Mr. Hoodbhoy has never come clean on his relationship with foreign intelligence establishments, and his writings and words surely cast suspicious on his loyalty and patriotism to the land of his birth. Halting the suicide bombers needs a holistic strategy and an immediate stopping of drones. If Mr. Hoodbhoy would read the Bharati Thinktanks, they would read some of the lines republished below

Wielding the weapon of psychological warfare, the Chinese recently prodded their friends in Pakistan to project via the Indian media that this is going to be the Chinese century and in Asia, the American influence is going to disappear leaving Beijing as the dominant power.

Therefore, India must decide whether it wants to side with the losing Western alliance led by America or the winning side led by China. These are symptoms of acute anxieties in Beijing and Islamabad.

Mr. Verma’s irredentist writings are an interested read—representing an encircled mentality that is helpless and unable to do anything—this sick mind then lashes out at anyone and everyone in sight.

Let me make an apparently outrageous proposition: in the coming years, India’s best protection is likely to come from its traditional enemy, the Pakistan Army. Therefore, India ought to now help, not fight, against it.

This may sound preposterous. After all, the two countries have fought three and a half wars over six decades. During periods of excessive tension, they have growled at each other while meaningfully pointing towards their respective nuclear arsenals. And yet, the imperative of mutual survival makes a common defence inevitable. Given the rapidly rising threat within Pakistan, the day for joint actions may not be very far away.

Pakistan: Hillary Clinton still doesn’t have a clue. Mr. Hoodbhoy is now parroting what Hillary Clinton suggested during her campaign for the presidency. “Pakistan is paranoid about India”. This is not withstanding the fact that 80% of Bharati forces are arrayed against Pakistan, and that its advanced jet fighters are located at bases near the Pakistan border, and that most of her missiles are pointed towards Pakistani cities. The Pakistani Army cooperating with Bharat to kill Kashmiri freedom fighters. That would be a day when hell freezes over. It won’t happen, never can and never will.

Today Pakistan is bearing the brunt. Its people, government and armed forces are under unrelenting attack. South Waziristan, a war of necessity rather than of choice, will certainly not be the last one. A victory here will not end terrorism, although a stalemate will embolden jihadists in south Punjab, including Lashkar-i-Taiba and Jaish-i-Mohammad. The cancer of religious militancy has spread across Pakistan, and it will take decades to defeat.

Where was Mr. Hoodbhoy when the CIA and 52 other countries were supporting the same “religious extremism” that he now finds so abhorrent. Where was Mr. Hoodbhoy when the Khmer Rouge were being created in Buddhist Cambodia–as a reaction to the US bombing in Vietnam. Where was Mr. Hoodbhoy when Hindu Tamil Tigers (LETTE) were sending wave upon wave of suicide bombers against the peaceful Sinhalese in Lanka. Where was Mr. Hoodbhoy’s opprobrium when the Israeli jews will committing horrendous war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank. Why is Mr. Hoodbhoy’s myopic criticism reserved only for Pakistan and Pakistanis.

This militancy does not merely exist because America occupies Afghanistan. A US withdrawal, while welcome, will not end Pakistan’s problems. As an ideological movement, the jihadists want to transform society as part of their wider agenda. They ride on the backs of their partners, the mainstream religious political parties like the Jamaat-i-Islami and Jamiat-i-Ulema-Pakistan. None of these have condemned the suicide bombings of Pakistani universities, schools, markets, mosques, police and army facilities.

Mr. Hoodbhoy is wrong. The militancy did not exist before 911. It exists, is fed by, and supported by the actions in Afghanistan. Mr. Hoodbhoy by toeing the Neocon line exposes his real intentions. The JI and the JUI were real assets for the CIA. At that time the JI and the JUI were the darling of the West. What changed? The outfits that have fought for Pakistan, liberated half of Kashmir and defended the borders in 1971 cannot be the root of all evil. It is Mr. Hoodbhoy who has a problem with his identity. He cannot impose his vision of secularism on all Pakistanis who do not want to be secular. They do not want to vote for religious parties, but they do not want to be secular.

Pakistan’s political leadership and army must not muddy the waters, especially now that public sanction has finally been obtained for fighting extremism in Swat and Waziristan. Self-deception weakens and enormously increases vulnerability. Wars can only be won if nations have a clear rallying slogan. Therefore the battle against religious extremism will require identifying it — by name — as the enemy.

We agree with Mr. Hoodbhoy, his self deception cannot obfuscate the reality of South Asia. He cannot impose his views about Pakistan on the Pakistani people. It is an amazing feat that every word that comes out of his mouth is antithetical to what is near and dear to most Pakistan. Mr. Hoodbhoy lives in a cocoon made in the USA, and now increasingly it has a made in India stamp on it. Whatever is bad for Pakistan is good for Mr. Hoodbhoy. This is absolutely amazing, that someone born and bred in Pakistan has ventured so far from his roots, that now he is incapable of seeing the Pakistani perspective. Everything in Mr. Hoodbhoy’s inventory can be easily labeled as Anti-Pakistani.

India should derive no satisfaction from Pakistan’s predicament. Although religious extremists see ordinary Muslims as munafiqs (hypocrites) — and therefore free to be blown up in bazaars and mosques — they hate Hindus even more. In their calculus, hurting India would buy even more tickets for heaven than hurting Pakistan. They dream of ripping apart both societies, or starting a war — preferably nuclear — between Pakistan and India.

A common threat needs a common defence. But this is difficult unless the Pakistan-India conflict is reduced in intensity. In fact the extremist groups that threaten both countries today are an unintended consequence of Pakistan’s frustrations at Indian obduracy in Kashmir.

To create a future working alliance with Pakistan, and in deference to basic democratic principles, India must be seen as genuinely working towards some kind of resolution of the Kashmir issue. Over the past two decades India has been morally isolated from Kashmiri Muslims and continues to incur the very considerable costs of an occupying power in the Valley. Indian soldiers continue to needlessly die — and to oppress and kill Kashmiri innocents.

It is time for India to fuzz the Line of Control, make it highly permeable and demilitarise it up to some mutually negotiated depth on both sides. Without peace in Kashmir the forces of cross-border jihad, and its hate-filled holy warriors, will continue to receive unnecessary succour.

What Mr. Hoodbhoy has suggested about Kashmir is all in Bharat’s favor. He neither speaks for Kashmiris nor for Pakistanis. Mr. Hoodbhoy pays lip service to a few cosmetic points, to loosen up the readers, but he then uses the comfort level of the reader to drive in the knife deep into the heart of the motherland. He challenges not only the 1973 constitution and the arrangement agreed upon by all the parties in the constitution, he challenges the very genesis of the Pakistan social contract.

India also needs to allay Pakistan’s fears on Balochistan. Although Pakistan’s current federal structure is the cause of the problem — a fact which the government is now finally addressing through the newly announced Balochistan package — it is nevertheless possible that India is aiding some insurgent groups. Statements have been made in India that Balochistan provides New Delhi with a handle to exert pressure on Pakistan. This is unacceptable.

Pakistan seeks peace with India as an equal partner, not as a reward for good behaviour. Pakistani CBMs have yielded no results. Assured failure: Why talk with India? Bharat continues to occupy Pakistani territory in Siachin, sir Creek, Junagarh, Manvadar, and Kashmir. Bharat continues to aid and abett militants in FATA, Swat and Balochistan. “Talks’ with Bharat have been going on for more than six decades. There are no results. Why talk? The Case against transit trade to India.

While there is no magic wand, confidence-building measures (CBMs) continue to be important for managing the Pakistan-India conflict and bringing down the decibel level of mutual rhetoric. To be sure, CBMs can be easily disparaged as palliatives that do not address the underlying causes of a conflict. Nevertheless, looking at those initiated over the years shows that they have held up even in adverse circumstances. More are needed.

Mr. Hoodbhoy then throws in threats to the Pakistani people. His line is “talk to Bharat–which really means listen to their claptrap and rhwtoric”, or else. Mr. Hoodbhoy threatens the state he lives in. His Green Card and US citizenship guarantees him a monthly income–as long as he continue hsi diatribe against Pakista. It is sad that Dawn.com publishes his trope.

The reason for India to want rapprochement with Pakistan, and thus end decades of hostility, has nothing to do with feelings of friendship or goodwill. It has only to do with survival. For us in Pakistan, this is even truer.  Is it really India? By Pervez Hoodbhoy, Saturday, 28 Nov, 2009.  The writer teaches at Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad. Let us look at another version of historical events—if we can imagine for a second another possibility in South Asia. If Bharat had not conspired to illegally take over Muslim Kashmir, if it had not tried to bully Pakistan into subservience, if it had not sent Mukti Bahni mercenaries into East Pakistan (as it is today doing in Balochistan), she would have found an ally in Pakistan—this ally would have been invaluable in exterminating the external threats to South Asia. Bharat’s illegal occupation of Srinagar allowed Pakistan to liberate Aksai Chin—and its gift to China allowed China land access to Tibet. Without Aksai Chin, China would never have been able to move its forces into Tibet or run over India in the 1962 war. If Kashmir was part of a friendly Pakistan, Tibet would have been a friendly country for India and there would have been no Superpower China to contend with. Without Tibet, Xinjiang would have been very vulnerable and Manchuria would have been restless.

It has been century of missteps of the current leadership of Bharat. History would have been very different for Congress leadership had pursued sane policies before the Cabinet Mission Plan.

Bharat can again reverse the negative trends—by resolving Kashmir, Siachin, Sir Creek and abiding by the Indus Water Treaty. These simple steps would great goodwill among the Pakistanis and stop the hostility that Delhi faces. Each Mumbai creates losses of billions of Dollars for Bharat.

In a Nuclear age with serious cracks in the Indian Union surrounded by enemies, more aggressiveness on the part of Delhi will only exacerbate the situation for Bharat.

Bharat now has a hostile Tibet, and a nuclear armed Pakistan. It may be facing a nuclear armed Myanmar in the East and a violently angry Bangladesh. With Nepal as part of the Maoist arc, Delhi faces total rebellion in the Northeast stats of Assam. Delhi had plans to incorporate Bhutan into the Union, like it did Sikkim. Those initial gains have now been reversed. The annexation of Sikkim is being disputed, and Bhutan has moved towards China. Beijing has vociferously claimed South Tibet (which Indian occupies and call Arunchal Pradesh).

THE PAKISTANI RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF THREATS: Mountbatten, Nehru, Mohandas Gandhi, Indira, Kruschev, Johnson, Carter, Kissinger, Nixon, Gorbachev, Clinton, Armitage, Bush, Karzai, Vajpayee, Singh, Petraeus, Obama have all threatened Pakistan: The Pakistanis are used to it…so what else is new?!!
