The Maldive islands face a looming crisis–global warming which threatens to overwhelm the island with a rising ocean. However the current and immediate problem is the impending Indian hegemonious designs on the islands. After failing to absorb Bangladesh, and take over Lanka Bharat faced the wall of Muslims in the Maldives. The brave Maldivians defeated an attempt to take over the island once before. After the Delhi Army withdrew the India tried a different tried and tested tact–throw money at the problems and sabotage the government of the island. A large scale effort was launched to displace a devout Muslim who refused to annexe the islands to India. A so called movement forced President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom from office and he was replaced by Maldivian President Mohammed Nasheed–an Indian agent whose first trip was to Delhi and has been raising the smoke screen of “Islamic fundamentalism” and “terrorism” on the peaceful island.

Muslim Maldives should accede to Pakistan

The Maldives are 100% Muslim and one has to be a Muslim to be a citizen–a defense mechanism to prevent the Indian takeover of the island.

In an effort to defeat the rising tide of opposition to Mr. Nasheed he has been raising the regular spectre of nonsensical red flags—in a recent interview with the Indian CNN he read the script written for him. It included the usual buzz words “Salafi Islam”, “fundamentalism”, “terrorists”, and of course “Taliban”.

“Hundreds of Maldivians” have been recruited by the Taliban and are fighting in Pakistan, Maldivian President Mohammed Nasheed told the CNN-IBN news channel during his recent visit to India.

Opposition to president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom of course rejects this sensationalsim.

The island paradise with about 2000 islands was like Lanka ’till Delhi started to tinker with it and take it over.

The Ocean archipelago renowned for its emerald green waters, turquoise bays and marble white sandy beaches has now been in the grip of political turmoil in recent years–brought on by Indian interference.

With Gayoom gone in 2008 – India thought that the take over of the island would be a smooth affair. However India was surprised to face an insolent population that did not want to become Indian. The same thing happened in Bangladesh. After creating the country in 1971, Delhi thought it could absorb it into itself as part of Bengal. Patriotic Bangladeshis would have none of it. They murdered the Indian agent Sheikh Mujib and rescinded plans to merge with India. Today Maldives is in a similar condition.

Mr. Nasheed tango with India is not liked by a majority of the Maldive people. His dreams of Indian citizenship faces a grim.

100% of Maldives is Muslms. President Gayoon wanted it to stay that way forever. Maldivians are Sunni Muslim and adherence to Islam is a prerequisite for citizenship. Traditionally Maldivians are devout Muslims however the promiscuity of Mr. Nasheed who has publicly and privately been seen drinking alcohol has antagonized the people of Maldives.

The moderate Maldivian women are now making a statement of defiance against the growing Indian influence which promises to make Maldives a brothel for rich Mumbai businessmen. Maldivian women wearing moderate dress are accosted for sexual favors–so now they wear the barbed wire of hijab to keep the Indian drunks away.

The religious parties are filling the vacuüm and religion is the rallying cry against Brahmanic tyranny. Like Kashmir the people do not want to be part of India.

In a mood of defiance the Maldivians now want Islamic law in their country. Several public demonstrations supporting Islam have taken place in Male in recent months.

The moderate but Muslim Adhaalath Party, believes in parliamentary democracy and is part of the ruling coalition government. It controls the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. It is very popular in the Maldives and is positioned to win the next elections–if they are ever held. Other parties that are less successful at the ballot but equally popular are Jamiyyathul Salaf and others.

The JS is a non-governmental organization (NGO) duly registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs with a mission to ”raise religious awareness and promote the values of Islam”. It is the poster child of Indian lobby which portrays it as an evil body.

There is no evidence whatever to prove any of allegations lodged against the JS–however India is busy maligning the Muslims of Maldives to justify a takeover of the paradise islands.

Gayoom, the former president was a devout Muslim but he faced a tirade of rhetoric from the Indians. He is not a spent force, and challenges the propoganda against him.

India is spreading the bogey of Islamic terror from Maldives at an increasing decibel level–all this to justify absorbing the island into the mainland–and to thwart the plans by China to build a base there.

To prove its legitimacy the Muslim party Adhaalath joined the government but adherence to democratic principles is not enough for the Indians–they want no Muslims party in the government. That is a tall order in a country that is 100% Muslim.

A propoganda campaign has been launched against the Adhaalath. Delhi is pushing the government of Maldives to ban Adhaalath and step up defense and security coöperation with India.

Under pressure Maldives signed a pact under which India has assumed responsibility for the archipelago’s security. It will set up a network of 26 radars across the Maldives’ 26 atolls, which will be linked to the Indian coastal command. Besides, a fortnight-long joint exercise between the armies of the two countries was held recently in India which is aimed at achieving interoperability in the event of future joint counter-terrorism operations.

This is the first step for a takeover.

China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Lanka must step up to save the Maldives.
