ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday dismissed India’s call to effectively secure its nuclear assets as “self serving,” and said New Delhi should instead work with it on establishing a “regional strategic restraint regime”.
Following a suicide attack on Friday outside the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex at Kamra – considered a base for some of the country’s strategic weapons – Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao had said that India hoped the Pakistan government would “continue to take steps to effectively secure their nuclear assets”.

14 Bharati "Consulates" are RAW terror centers spreading sabotage across the border in Pakistan. ‘Increasing Indian influence in Afghanistan is likely to exacerbate regional tensions and encourage Pakistani countermeasures in Afghanistan or India.’ (Gen Stanley McChrystal). They do not share a border with Afghanistan, whereas we do. So the level of engagement has to be commensurate with that," Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in an extensive interview with The Los Angeles Times, when asked about India's building up its commercial and political presence in Afghanistan.

Responding to a question on Rao’s comments, Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said, “Such remarks are evidently self-serving and integral to India’s efforts to seek unilateral advantage at the cost of regional strategic stability by its feverish militarization and working on dangerous military doctrines. Instead of finger pointing, India should accept our proposal for promoting a regional strategic restraint regime and work with Pakistan to promote strategic stability in South Asia,” he said. Basit said India should “stop its opportunistic propaganda against Pakistan”. India should stop opportunistic propaganda: Pakistan, PTI 24 October 2009, 10:07pm IST

The resilience of Pakistan and the nation’s continuing collective refusal to do what the west would like it to do
India has all along adopted a duplicitous stance in its dealings with Pakistan. Duplicity of India can be gauged from its responses to various events. When Pakistan became member of SEATO and CENTO in 1950s essentially because of Indian threat to its security, India cried out that Pakistan was encouraging American influence in Indian subcontinent and becoming a threat to India. Nehru made this into an excuse to take a U turn on his commitment of holding plebiscite in Kashmir. India ignored the fact that it was sitting in the lap of USSR but outwardly espousing non-alignment. After getting beating from Chinese in 1962 conflict, India opened its doors for arms assistance both from Moscow and Washington. Indian military supported cross border terrorism in former East Pakistan in 1971 and broke Pakistan into two. From 1990s onwards, India forgetting its past conduct has consistently accused Pakistan of cross border terrorism in Indian occupied Kashmir where a popular freedom struggle is raging since 1989. It welcomed Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and vociferously condemned USA, western world and Pakistan in particular for supporting Afghan Jihad.
Having opposed the policies of USA for over four decades, it suddenly fell into the lap of USA the moment USSR lost its super power status and became its strategic partner in 1991. From that time onwards it has all along vied to spoil Pak-US relations and welcomed US intrusion in the region. It lent full support to Washington for its intended invasion of Afghanistan and offered its full services. It is party to occupation forces and is vying to become the key player in Afghanistan affairs. It has extracted highly prized civilian nuclear deal from USA and is receiving sophisticated weaponry from USA as well as from Russia in huge quantities without any compunction.
In contrast to huge defence budget and spending on purchase of latest state-of-art-of weapons by India, which has radically altered the military balance in its favor, any effort by Pakistan to procure its modest defence needs from USA, China or any other country is vociferously censured and hue and cry is made that it has aggressive designs against India. India funding Taliban: Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik
* Islamabad has ‘solid evidence’ of Indian involvement in Balochistan
* Education security zones set up in capital
LAHORE: India is creating unrest within Pakistan by funding the Taliban based along the Pak-Afghan border and by interfering in Balochistan, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Monday.
I an interview with a private TV channel, Malik said there were ‘certain hostile forces’, including India, that were backing the Taliban to destabilise Pakistan.
To a question, he said Islamabad could demand that Bharatiya Janata Party leader LK Advani be extradited if his name was included in the first information report of former prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan’s murder.

“If the Indian interior minister or anyone else wants to confront me on this, I will be very happy to accommodate them because I know that what I am saying is correct,” he said. To another question, he said India had received intelligence reports about possible attacks in Mumbai in July of 2008, adding it was Delhi’s failure that they could not prevent the attacks in time.
Solid evidence: He said Islamabad had ‘solid evidence’ of Indian involvement in the unrest in Balochistan, adding the information could be shared with Indian ministers or representatives at any forum of their choice.

“I invite their interior minister or anyone else to come to Pakistan. I will go on the record with all the material I have on India’s involvement in Balochistan. I will prove it to the world,” he said.
Security zones: Separately, Malik said education security zones had been set up in the capital to increase security of educational institutions, APP reported.
The minister said that under the programme, 300 well-trained security guards of civil defence would provide security to schools, colleges and universitates in various sectors of the capital.
He said after the bomb attack on the International Islamic University, the government decided to provide a red zone like tight security to the entire capital.
“We will satisfy the security requirement of the residents of the capital,” he said.
To a question, Malik said the government was equally concentrating on security arrangements for both public and private schools, adding private institutions would be administratively bound to make proper security arrangements.
He said the government had closed education institutes across the country because of security reassessment and concerns of parents. “But there was pressure from parents, vice chancellors and education heads and students to open institutions so that it did not give an impression that the nation was surrendering to the terrorists. We are not afraid, we are ready to fight,” the minister said.
“To cope with this pressure, I constituted two separate committees, one for schools and the other for colleges. On the recommendation of these committees we decide to open the institutions,” he added. daily times monitor/app
