Australia: Indian racism described by Mbongeni Ngema’s song “AmaNdiya”

The Bharti (aka Indian) media is aflame with another topic–this time Australian “racism“. While Indians cry foul in Sydney they forget the reality faced by the 450 million black Dalits who are considered Untouchables in their society. Tokenism aside, and not withstanding the speaker of the house, the 450 million Dalits  suffer a life worse than slaves. Millions have been murdered is what is called the Sudra Holocaust. Indians are accused of racism in Africa and all over the world. It is pedagogical to look at some aspects of Bharat and see if the charges are true. Indians should look at themselves in the mirror and they will see a caste  infested, penury stricken society that is hated around the planet.

The Indian  press has tried to portray all the Indians in South Africa as ‘students”. Thousands are illegal and thousands work as cab drivers and do other odd jobs. They are not untouchable in Australia.

We need to investigate the roots of Indian racism, and in countries where the Indians live. Not enough has been written about the 450 million untouchable slaves called Dalits and scheduled classes. For most Indians these are invisible non-humans whose suffering is blacked from sight and obliterated from memory.

Let us start our investigation in South Africa, and look at Kenya, Uganda and the Caribbean. Mbongeni Ngema is relatively unknown in the Western world and many would wish that he had never sung any songs. He was part of the Chorus in “Circle of Life” (Disney–Lion King). He however is very popular in South Africa and the South African government was forced to “unban” his song about Indian racism in South Africa.Amazon site

Mbongeni Ngema’s song ‘AmaNdiya’ has elicited a wide range of reactions that are indicative of a polarized and divided society. The outpouring of vitriolic emotions on either side of the Indian-African divide should signal to us the urgent need to address the racial and ethnic divisions that continue to plague our country. Amidst all the accusations and counter accusations of racism, we should not lose sight of the big picture of a democratic non-racial South Africa that we are all striving for. South Africa Human Rights Commission. Comment on Mbongeni Ngema’s “Amandiya”

Mbongeni Ngema, a Anti-Apartheid hero, a prodigous writer,  a marvelous lyricist, a prolific composer and successful director was born in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal near Durban in South Africa. Ngema started his career as a theatre backing guitarist. Mbongeni Ngema whose achievements on stage have been phenomenal. He wrote a controversial song, Amandiya about racism that Blacks in KwaZulu-Natal have suffered at the hands of Indians. It lyrics depicted the reality that portrayed Indians as racist and exploitative.  His Jive Madlokovu album sent shock waves through the Indian community. Ngema has refused to apologize for the song and it remains popular in South Africa.

  • You would have thought that since the blacks and the coloured people of South Africa were both at the receiving end of the Apartheid regime, they would share a degree of fellowship as comrades. In practice this was not entirely the case. There were some Indians who did join the black people’s struggle against white racism, but there were others who preferred to serve the Apartheid regime to suppress the black majority.

In fact, a special category was created for complicit Indians in South Africa’s notorious tricameral parliament, where they had no voting rights but were still considered a notch above the black majority, who continued to be denied the false cover of even that third-rate parliamentary system.

Offended by the inclination of so many Indians to join Pik Botha’s tricameral parliament a black South African composer wrote a song, which portrayed the country’s Indian population as abusing black people and being more racist than the whites.

A barrage of criticism led to Mbongeni Ngema’s song AmaNdiya – Zulu for Indians – being banned by South Africa’s radio stations and record shops. But it took a while before Nelson Mandela got Ngema to apologise for the lyrics. This anti-black syndrome is not peculiar to Indians. .Dawn. Of course Indian racism is not limited to South Africa. Things got so bad that Uganda and Kenya expelled all Indians from the country.

Gandhi’s racism: The truth behind the mask. Behold Sergeant-Major Gandhi who supported the British during the Boer War and Zulu Rebellion. Behold the prophet of peace who worked to stratify the society in South Africa, Whites, Indians and Blacks based on the Hindu Caste system. Behold the “Enlightened One” that supported the British effort in World War one, and packed off thousands to the war effort to be used as cannon-fodder. Behold the pacifist that sent thousands to kill millions. Behold the “mahatma” that supported the British in World War 2 and encouraged the Indians to support the British war, thus perpetuating the colonial rule in the Subcontinent and supporting the Empire.

A plethora of information is now coming out of many sources shedding light on the life of Mr. Gandhi and his support for the British war machine, his disdain for the Africans in South Africa and his advice to invade Kashmir, and his suggestion to the Sikhs to not let their swords rust is contrary to the image of the pervert marketed in the West.

Mohandas Gandhi’s Failed Leadership in Politics, and Gandhi’s Domestic Violence and weird Sexual Perversion in his private lifeBehold the “Enlightened One” that supported the British effort in World War one, and packed off thousands to the war effort to be used as cannon-fodder. Behold the pacifist that sent thousands to kill millions. Behold the “Mahatma” that supported the British in World War 2 and encouraged the Indians to support the British war, thus perpetuating the colonial rule in the Subcontinent and supporting the Empire.

The Nobel Prize rejected the Gandhi nomination because of this war mongering. Why Mohandas Gandhi didn’t win the Nobel Peace prize?

    • In his report, Professor Worm-Müller expressed his own doubts as to whether Gandhi’s ideals were meant to be universal or primarily Indian: “One might say that it is significant that his well-known struggle in South Africa was on behalf of the Indians only, and not of the blacks whose living conditions were even worse.
    • Mr. Gandhi told his prayer meeting to-night that, though he had always opposed all warfare, if there was no other way of securing justice from Pakistan and if Pakistan persistently refused to see its proved error and continued to minimise it, the Indian Union Government would have to go to war against it. …(Mohandas K. Gandhi, Spetember 27th, 1947)
    • sharp turns in his policies, which can hardly be satisfactorily explained by his followers. (…) He is a freedom fighter and a dictator. Professor Jacob Worm-Müller, who wrote a report on Gandhi
    • he Nobel Committee adviser referred to … critics in maintaining that he was not consistently pacifist, that he should have known that some of his non-violent campaigns towards the British would degenerate into violence and terror. This was something that had happened during the first Non-Cooperation Campaign in 1920-1921, e.g. when a crowd in Chauri Chaura, the United Provinces, attacked a police station, killed many of the policemen and then set fire to the police station.

Behold the “apostle of peace,” who counseled a Jewish delegation” to oppose the evil of Nazism by “soul force” – by committing mass suicide, was all praise for annexing Kashmir by armed aggression.

Behold Sergeant-Major Gandhi who supported the British during the Boer War and Zulu Rebellion. Behold the “ahimsa” racist who did not support the Africans in their efforts to get freedoms from the British.

Behold the prophet of peace who worked to stratify the society in South Africa, Whites, Indians and Blacks based on the Hindu Caste system.

Over the years I have discussed Gandhi with many Americans, both formally and informally. . . .What continues to irk me is the amount of Gandhi “propaganda material” that has flooded our libraries and bookstores. For an unsuspecting Westerner, the reading of Gandhi as he is portrayed on these shelves can bring about the intended result. That is understandable. This book is an attempt to close the gap between the popularized Gandhi and the historical Gandhi. This book will incite readers to be more open-minded and to seek to validate the “truths” presented. My hope is that it will provoke honest, healthy, and open dialogue and foster more critical scrutiny about him. . . .

    GANDHI ON NON-VIOLENCE

During a prayer speech: “If we had the atom bomb, we would have used it against
    the British.
    ” – June 16, 1947 (Reference: Gandhi’s “The Last Phase”, Vol II, p. 326)

To the British during WWII: “This manslaughter must be stopped. You are losing; if
you persist, it will only result in greater bloodshed. Hitler is not a bad man.”(Reference: G.D. Birla’s “In the Shadow of the Mahatma”, p. 276)

GANDHI ON BLACKS AND RACE RELATIONS

A general belief seems to prevail in the colony that the Indians are little better, if at all, than the savages or natives of Africa. Even the children are taught to believe in that manner, with the result that the Indian is being dragged down to
the position of a raw Kaffir
.” (Reference: The Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi, Government of India (CWMG), Vol I, p. 150)

Regarding forcible registration with the state of blacks: “One can understand the necessity for registration of Kaffirs who will not work.” (Reference: CWMG, Vol I, p. 105)

Why, of all places in Johannesburg, the Indian Location should be chosen for dumping down all the Kaffirs of the town passes my comprehension…the Town Council must withdraw the Kaffirs from the Location.” (Reference: CWMG, Vol I, pp. 244-245)

His description of black inmates: “Only a degree removed from the animal.” Also, “Kaffirs are as a rule uncivilized – the convicts even more so. They are troublesome,
very dirty and live almost like animals.”
    - Mar. 7, 1908 (Reference: CWMG, Vol VIII, pp. 135-136)

    The Durban Post Office
One of Gandhi’s major “achievements” in South Africa was to promote racial segregation by refusing to share a post office door with the black natives.

    Sergeant Major Gandhi
Learn how Gandhi became a Sgt. Major in the British Army and eagerly participated in the 1906 British war against the black Zulus.

    Gandhi and South African Blacks
Gandhi wrote extensively about his experiences with the blacks of South Africa. He always termed them “Kaffirs” and his writings reveal a deep-seated disdain for these African natives

By supporting the British war effort in South Africa as well as in the Subcontinent, he actually prolonged Britian’s occupation of the Subcontinent and prolonged the life of the British Empire. In 1945 the tottering “empire” was its knees already.

Years of dedicated research on Gandhi convinced me that our hero was fundamentally a racist. In this book, I present the facts. The evidence presented here is not a matter of speculation or distorted interpretation. Much of the irrefutable evidence lay buried beneath a mountain of Gandhi’s own writings – in his own words, which I have uncovered – comments that will be difficult to dispute once they are read. In this book you will read the evidence in its entirety. My primary intention is to untangle the web that Gandhi weaved – and his followers are still weaving – for many years. Only through a methodical probing can we expose Gandhi’s campaign of deception: the lies, the propaganda, the misinformation, the half-truths, and the efforts to hide behind religion. Where Gandhi left off, his followers have picked up, and they continue their own sophisticated campaigns, both in India and abroad. This book should not be looked upon as another Gandhi biography. Rather, it should provide a standard by which to weigh the Gandhian literature for accuracy and objectivity. Also this book, though narrowly focused, should stand as a guide alerting us to how thoroughly the Gandhi propagandists and others have succeeded in deceiving us.

Gandhi lived in South Africa from 1893 to 1914, where he designed and perfected his techniques of Satyagraha. But to date, no one has asked the critical question about the genesis of Satyagraha, and only a handful of scholars have delved into the murky areas of Gandhi’s “relationship” with black people. Similarly, only a few scholars have cast a critical eye on Gandhi’s life in India from 1915 to his death in 1948. During this time he gained worldwide prestige, and yet nobody asked. What personal attitudes did his politics belie regarding the British, other whites, and India’s own Untouchables? Did Gandhi truly believe in abolishing the caste system, as the rest of the world has been led to believe?

GANDHI: BEHIND THE MASK OF DIVINITY is the first investigative book to analyze the Mahatma’s own writings. In this highly critical, intriguing, and provocative investigation, Singh presents the personal side of Gandhi often underrepresented by the vast majority of Gandhian literature. Readers will find particularly interesting the case of William Francis Doherty, a white American whose murder at the hands of Gandhi’s followers was subsequently covered up by Gandhi himself. What does this say about Gandhi the man, and what does it mean for our modern understanding of his beliefs? Naturally, a critical analysis of Gandhi’s life has implications for our understanding of modern India, a Hindu state that has already manufactured nuclear weapons and will likely produce more. Why are the followers of “nonviolent” Gandhi bent upon manufacturing weapons of mass destruction, in addition to building huge military and paramilitary forces? The while tenor of contemporary Indian military strategy seems not to correspond to the prevalent depiction of Gandhian philosophy. The post-September 11 world is radically different, and it compels is to critically investigate India’s politics, its leaders, and their brand of ideology – starting with the ideas of the man who led India to modern statehood.

About the Author: Col. G.B. Singh, a career military officer, is a professional student of Indian politics, Hinduism, and the life and teachings of Gandhi. Gandhi: Behind the Mask of Divinity, By G. B. Singh Reviewed by Baldev Singh

A plethora of information is now coming out of many sources shedding light on the life of Mr. Gandhi and his support for the British war machine, his disdain for the Africans in South Africa and his advice to invade Kashmir, and his suggestion to the Sikhs to not let their swords rust is contrary to the image of the pervert marketed in the West.Truth comes out breaking the walls of a fortress” is a Punjabi saying. For the lovers of truth G. B. Singh has exploded the Gandhi myth – apostle of peace, emancipator of untouchables and liberator of India by peaceful means from the British yoke – by publishing his labor of love, Gandhi: Behind the Mask of Divinity. G. B.

Singh studied Gandhi for over twenty years collecting Gandhi’s speeches, writings and other documents, which the promoters of Gandhi left out intentionally to create a twentieth century messiah by fusing Jesus Christ and Vishnu. The oppressors – the proponents of colonialism, slavery, racism and casteism – have imposed their own version of history on the victims through manipulation, deception and hypocrisy. For example there is holocaust museum in the capital of United States in the memory of six million Jews who fell victim to the atrocities of Nazis in World War II. It is commendable and such museums should be built in every capital in the world to remind people of the heinous crimes of the Nazis. But why not a museum about the genocide of native Americans or a museum about slavery in the capital of United States?

It takes moral courage to look into the face of truth! In order to avoid the obligation to intervene in Rwanda, the Western powers led by President Clinton put pressure on the United Nations Security Council not to characterize the mass murder of Tootsies as genocide.

The making of Gandhi myth stared in South Africa by white Christian clergy. Rev. Joseph J. Doke, a Baptist Minster was the first to write the biography of M. K. Gandhi. Soon many other European and American clergymen and writers rushed in to make their input. John H. Holmes, a Unitarian pastor from New York praised Gandhi in his writings and sermons with titles like: Gandhi: The Modern Christ, Mahatma Gandhi: The Greatest Man since Jesus Christ, Mahatma Ji: Reincarnation of Christ and Gandhi before Pilate. Romain Rolland, French Nobel Laureate in literature looked at Gandhi not only as a Hindu saint, but also another Christ. He wrote Gandhi’s new biography in French. The English translation of this book opens with: He is the One Luminous, Creator of All, Mahatma. Impressed with lavish propaganda about Gandhi in the West, the Hindu propaganda machine came into action and it churned out a plethora of literature to elevate Gandhi to the status of twentieth century Hindu god – “The seventh reincarnation of Vishnu, Lord Rama,”proclaimed Krishnalal Shridharni. Portraits of Gandhi depicted him as Hindu avatar and Christian saint. The Indian government under Prime Minister Indra Gandhi financed one-third the cost of the production of the movie “Gandhi” for the portrayal of Gandhi as “an absolute pacifist.”

The Christian clergy had an ulterior motive in building the Gandhi myth. They thought that by elevating Gandhi to a 20th century messiah and then converting him would open the flood gate for evangelizing Hindu masses. Little did they realize that Gandhi hoodwinked them with his insincere statements about Christianity? He was a die-hard Hindu, a true believer and defender of the caste order – the essence of Hinduism?

Gandhi apologists indulged in gross deception by claiming that Gandhi’s Satyagrah in South Africa was in the defense of the rights of native people. Nothing could be further from truth than this bald lie. How could Gandhi, a diehard supporter of the caste system think of the welfare of African blacks he regarded lower than the Untouchables of India – slightly above the animal level? His Satyagrah was for the better treatment of Indians, who, according to Gandhi were treated the same way as savage Kaffirs (native people) were. In his stay of twenty years in South Africa, he had no social contacts with the Kaffirs, as he did not see any common ground with them in the daily affairs of life. He was horrified when he was lodged with “natives” in the same jail ward.

He did not like wearing the same clothes with label “N” born by the natives, nor he liked their food and sharing lavatory with them. It was the jail experience, which brought out his racism in the open. ” Kaffirs and Chinese prisoners are wild, murderous and given to immoral ways. Kaffirs are as a general rule uncivilized – the convicts even more so. They are troublesome, very dirty and live almost like animal.”

He proclaimed that the British Empire was for the welfare of the whole world and he accepted the superiority and predominance of white race. But he reminded the white people that upper caste Indians share with the Europeans a common heritage – the blood of the noble Aryan race. According to him it is Aryan blood, which is responsible for the advancement of human civilization. He suggested to Rev, Doke to civilize the N*****by converting them to Christianity and by infusing Aryan blood into their race. He told the white colonists that the preservation of racial purity (Apartheid) was as important to the Indians as to Europeans.

He urged the colonial authorities to raise a volunteer militia of Indians to fight for the Empire. He told the Natal authorities that it would be a “criminal folly” if they did not enlist Indians for the war. He was rebuffed with sarcastic and derogatory comments about the fighting ability of people like Gandhi. However, his persistence persuaded the authorities to form a volunteer ambulance corps of Indians under the command of Sergeant-Major Gandhi during the Boer War and Zulu Rebellion. He urged the Indian community to show their loyalty to the British Empire by raising funds for the War. He reminded them that they were in South Africa due to the courtesy of the Empire. It is not for us to judge whether the N*****revolt is justified or not. We are co-colonists with whites of this land whereas the black savages are as yet unfit to participate in the political affairs of the colony.

He was a mean spirited parochial Hindu. Sergeant- Major Gandhi selected only Gujrati Hindus as his assistants, three Sergeants and one Corporal in spite of the fact the ambulance corps (20-24 men) was made up mostly of non-Gujratis with substantial number of Muslims.

The Russian Revolution of 1914 spurted national movements against colonial rule. The British brought Gandhi back to India to sabotage Indian national movement against British rule. The congress Party dominated by Gandhi was set up under the patronage of the British authorities. The “apostle of peace” urged the Indian people to support the British by enlisting in the army during World War I. In his letter he wrote to the Viceroy in1930, he said, ” One of his reason for launching the Civil Disobedient Movement is to contain the violence of revolutionaries.”

On the advice of white promoters of Gandhi, black clergy and civil rights leaders traveled to India to seek Gandhi’s advice about solving the problem of segregation and civil rights of blacks. How little did they know that Gandhi regarded the black people slightly above the animal level? Moreover, they were ignorant of the fact that caste system was originally imposed, as racial discrimination (Varna Ashrama Dharma) similar to the Apartheid system, on the black natives of India by their Caucasian conquerors. But later on due to emergence of new racial groups due to miscegenation between the two groups, Varna Ashrama Dharma evolved into caste system tied to hereditary occupations. Untouchabilty is as integral a part of Hindu faith as anti- Semitism of the Nazis. It is noteworthy that not a single black leader met Dr. B. R. Ambedkar – M. A. and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University, M.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees from London University and Bar-at-Law from Grey’s Inn, London – who was the undisputed leader of the Untouchables at that time. Gandhi propaganda machine manipulated the visit of black leaders, as it did not want them to find truth about Gandhi’s views on the caste system. “I believe in Varnashrama (caste system) which is the law of life. The law of Varna (color and / or caste) is nothing but the law of conservation of energy. Why should my son not be scavenger if I am one? He, Shudra (lowest caste) may not be called a Brahmin (uppermost caste), though he (Shudra) may have all the qualities of a Brahmin in this birth. And it is a good thing for him (Shudra) not to arrogate a Varna (caste) to which he is not born. It is a sign of true humility.”

In 1921, Gandhi delivered violent speeches inciting racial hatred against the British. During bloody demonstrations and riots against the visit of Prince of Wales, William Francis Doherty, an American citizen working in Bombay was murdered. Gandhi personally got involved in the cover up of this gruesome murder through bribery and intimidation, as he was concerned that the details of this murder would tarnish Gandhi’s image in the West.

It is a cruel joke and one of the biggest fabrications of the twentieth century that Gandhi won Indian freedom without spilling a drop of blood. The truth is that it was the devastating effect of World War II that forced the British government to dismantle its Colonial Empire. Moreover, it was Gandhi and his Hindu dominated Congress party that engineered the partition of the country on communal lines, as the Muslim dominant states stood in the way of high caste Hindus to set up their Ram Raj (mythical Hindu kingdom) based on caste ideology. Additionally, the Partition of India in 1947 is one of the major upheavals of the twentieth century. In the State of Punjab alone, 11-12 million people lost their homes and hearths where their ancestors had lived for centuries. May be as many as one million people perished in the communal frenzy and thousands of young women were kidnapped while Gandhi was reciting the murderous sermons from his favorite scripture – Bhagvad Gita. He kept insisting up to the last moment that the country would be partitioned only over his dead body!

The ascetic in loincloth used to sleep in buff with naked young girls to perform experiments to test his celibacy. Dr. Sushila Nayar told Ved Mehta that she used to sleep with Gandhi as she regarded him as a Hindu god. The man, who had taken vow of poverty, demanded and got even in jail the same comforts enjoyed by British high officials in India.

The “apostle of peace,” who counseled a Jewish delegation” to oppose the evil of Nazism by “soul force” – by committing mass suicide, was all praise for annexing Kashmir by armed aggression.

His failures, Pedophilia and sexual perversion fetishes

He told his Sikh followers that rusty sword is useless in the age of Atom Bomb. The development of nuclear weapons by India – a country that ranks among the poorest in the world and is near the bottom of human development index chart of the United Nations – exposes the real face of the “absolute pacifist” and the nation that calls him “father.” After all didn’t lord Krishna tell Arjana during the battle of Mahabharata “Victory is truth.”

His failures, Pedophilia and sexual perversion fetishes

Although, the Indian people have started peeking at the man behind the mask of divinity, there is no let up in the perpetuation of Gandhi myth in the West, especially the United States.

    G. B. Singh rightfully deserves the accolades for bringing out the truth about Gandhi from Gandhi’s own mouth.

A Jewish philosopher, Martin Buber in his response (24 February 1939) reminded Gandhi of his own comments of 1922 on the matter of Indian rights: how Gandhi had “repeatedly said that I would have India become free even by violence rather than that she should remain in bondage.”

Plight of 450 million Indian enslaved Untouchables. More than 60 per cent of Dalits are landless. Over 40 million of them are bonded labourers. Dalits are the worst victims of labour coercion “The 1991 Government survey of India states that on an average day, two Dalits are killed, three Dalit women are raped, two Dalits’ houses are burned and fifty Dalits are assaulted by people of a higher caste.” ” High-caste Brahmins formed a private army, the Ranvir Sena, to stop communists from encouraging Dalit field workers to demand higher wages

      Hi,

I’m from India. I have been an avid reader of your views. I have to say, you misunderstand the caste based system and compare it to the present system of things.

The caste system were developed some 5000 years ago. It has helped eliminate competition and kept India alive for centuries.

Even the great sages who developed it agree that it is NOT a perfect system. They say, show us any system that is better and we will let go of caste.

We know how democracy, communism, monarchy works….no system is perfect.

Casteism is just a social system, it has nothing to do with religion.

We only hear the negative side of casteism. In the old days all casteism provided people with atleast two meals a day and poverty was manageable.

Now what we see is in the name of democracy and equality…we have the highest number of poor people on earth and malnutrition abound everywhere in India.

In casteism there were less corruption, now in democracy every nation has become corrupt.

Two wrongs cannot become a right…..casteism was and i believe is the best available option right now, it keeps peoples greed and competition at check and exploitation is at the minimum.

Untouchables were never massacred in the older times, when casteism were at the peak.

Its now that we have a phony democracy and in the name of it untouchables are been sidelined.

We dont know if it is ever possible for America or rest of the world to survive in the name of democracy for 5000 years…

    2. lavista4u says:

Regarding Racism. I agree we tend to be negatives towards the blacks and lean towards the white people more.

It is exactly this grand illusion of Indians that white are some how more understanding, cultured that have foxed them in Australia, UK and USA.

Australians are more aggressive, they don’t take things lying down, everywhere people have the same feelings towards Indians, it is just that Australian nature showed it first .

Indians have no right to preach others when in our own country, one is not allowed to move freely from one state to another. Indians have so much hatred among themselves that they don’t need to go beyond their shores to find out.

Indian media is a freak on ganja..everything is a breaking news and they try every possible ways to make it a sensation.

We have a false feeling that, because of our so called progress which is off course a delusion that people have started hating us…Indians or Chinese or no one will ever achieve anything more than what has already been achieved in the west.

All said beating people to death in the name of hatred is completely wrong…which is exactly why Indians got FOXED..they thought whites are good people than others..which is the precise reason this is happening…..they thought they could move freely at night without getting bothered cos in their minds WHITEs are good people…now the reality is hitting hard.

They wouldn’t dare do that in Africa or China ..cos they dont have this pre conceived notion of goodness there.

Well The reason why not Chinese are getting attacked is, they don’t have this preconceived notion on people and they naturally respect everyone.

Its the culture of education in India driven by political forces which does not value the meaning of respect.

      Brilliant analysis. Thank you

    4. Moin Ansari says:

Sir: It is a religious indoctrination and myth that the caste system is 5000 years old. There were no civilization in Bharat 5000 years ago. The old cvilization in South Asia is in Mehergarh. The IVC reached its zenith at 3500 BC. The IVC was non-Hindu and non-stratified (which means no caste). They buried their dead, horse was unknown, they did not spaek or write Sanskrit, they wrote right to left in a pictographic script, they ate meat, they ate beef, vand no symbols of Arjun, or Kali, or Shiva have been discovered in the IVC which was essentially in the area now called Pakistan.

The caste developed after 1500 BC when the Aryans ran over the IVC and went ito what is now Bharat. At the time the Aryans were fair and imposed a sort of slavery on the natives and those whom they had defeated. The Inter-Aryan wars were the Mahabaharta and the Aryan-Dravidian war were the Kora Panda wars.

I look at the historical events from a secular perspective. I do not want to offend anyone if they quote scripture. Several articles on the IVC have bene posted on this site as well as on http://www.pakhistorian.com

Please also visit Dalit Nation, Dalit Muslims and Dalit Freedom Network to learn the truth about Dalits and how they feel about the 3000 year old slavery and how they are treated today. hello. Sadly enough, Indians are rather racist, I would have to agree. And Gandhi wasn’t perfect either, but I think you are drawing far more conclusions than are rationally possible here. You seem rather desperate to malign him and Indian politics.

“a Hindu state that has already manufactured nuclear weapons and will likely produce more”..
“development of nuclear weapons by India exposes the real face of the “absolute pacifist” and the nation that calls him “father.”"

Firstly, with a Sikh Prime Minister and a Muslim ex-President, I don’t think India qualifies as a “Hindu state”. And if I’m not mistaken, you are trying to suggest that merely because Gandhi advocated peace and satyagraha, the entire nation’s foreign and military policy should be based on his principles, 61 years after his death?? Unless you do not know how to read a map, you should know that India’s neighbours are Pakistan and China. You might also be aware that terrorists frequent the areas of India close to the borders and India has already had wars with Pakistan and China. Under these circumstances, you would recommend peace and non-violence?? After the China war in 62, China started making rapid advances in the nuclear weapons field. Now, if you had just had a war with someone and they started making nuclear weapons, would you have said NO to nuclear weapons technology?? And this was around 26 years AFTER Gandhi’s death, it can have no bearing whatsoever on Gandhi’s teachings. Whatever Gandhi may have preached, the circumstances were entirely different and India was NOT a sovereign nation back then. India’s polity and foreign and military policies are now far flung from Gandhi’s ideals and are a result of 60 years of events. Any comparison just takes Gandhi’s teachings out of context and is irrelevant, foolish and desperate at best.

And you seem rather confused with your opinions on the Partition. Firstly you mention that millions of people lost their homes etc and many died etc and then you mention that Gandhi did not want the Partition to happen. So isn’t it good that Gandhi did not want all these atrocities to happen? And you will please refrain from calling the Bhagvad Gita names(murderous sermons??). It happens to be one of the more enlightened texts around.. Gandhi never inspired Hindus to kill Muslims during the Partition, he actually went on a fast in Bengal trying to get the rioting to end.

And one more thing about the Partition, it happened because Nehru pipped Jinnah to the Prime Minister’s post, not due to some desire for a “Ram Raj”. Jinnah specifically asked to be Prime Minister and said he wouldn’t ask for a separate nation. But Nehru was Gandhi’s favourite and he won that battle, hence Jinnah went ahead with it. If any blame is to be handed out, Jinnah and the Muslim League must be first to receive it. And about the “Hindu-dominated Congress” of that time, they had some of the most secular people around, so much so that after independence, they refused to accept any caste/religion barriers and passed the same laws for everyone. This turned out to be bad for the economy (I would suggest that you read Nandan Nilekani’s “Imagining India” for a more informed perspective)

You seem intent on telling half the story everywhere: (India producing nukes; leaving out Pakistan and China), Partition (Congress; leaving out Jinnah). Half the truth is more dangerous than a lie.

While I do appreciate whatever effort might have gone into researching about this, some of the conclusions that you draw are just a result of the half-truths you seem to preach.

    6. Exposing Mohandas Gandhi as faraud carries the burden of authenticated references, exact quotes and referenced material. This site does exactly that. Most of the material presented here has been extracted from two books written by the grandsons of Mohandas Gandhi, two books written by Dr. B.T. Singh, the criticism of Mohandas Gandhi by the Nobel Peace Prize (which turned him down twice for a peace prize), the writings of Mr. Mandela, the discussion of Mr. Gandhi in South Africa, the writings of Ms. Saijorni Naidu, the writings of Subash Chandra Bose, the writings of Dr. Ambedekar, the exposes on the Dalit Freedom Network, and the repudiation of Mr. Gandhi by the Congress of the United States of America.

      http://rupeenews.com/2008/09/03/united-states-congressional-record-on-mohandas-gandhi/

I declare that the future of the Hindu race, of Hindustan and of the Punjab, rests on these four pillars: (1) Hindu Sangathan, (2) Hindu Raj, (3) Shuddhi of Moslems, and (4) Conquest and Shuddhi of Afghanistan and the Frontiers. So long as the Hindu nation does not accomplish these four things, the safely of our children and great-grandchildren will be ever in danger, and the safety of the Hindu race will be impossible. The Hindu race has but one history, and its institutions are homogeneous. But the Musalmans and Christians are far removed from the confines of Hindustan, for their religions are alien and they love Persian, Arab and European institutions. Thus, just as one removes foreign matter from the eye, Shuddhi must be made of these two religions. Afghanistan and the hilly regions of the frontier were formerly part of India, but are at present under the domination of Islam. . . .

…Just as there is Hindu religion in Nepal, so there must be Hindu institutions in Afghanistan and the frontier territory; otherwise it is useless to win Swaraj. For mountain tribes are always warlike and hungry. If they become our enemies, the age of Nadirshah and Zamanshah will begin anew. At present English officers are protecting the frontiers; but it cannot always be. . . .If Hindus want to protect themselves, they must conquer Afghanistan and the frontiers and convert all the mountain tribes.” Excerpted from Dr. Ambedkar’s book “Pakistan”.

One may wonder why Bharat is the only country in the world with the unique distinction of having wars with all her neighbors which it wants to absorb into Akhand Bharat.

You seem to be confused on the authorship of the article. Please take up your beef with The Dalit Freedom Network and Cyber Gandhi who wrote most of the article.

Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah never wanted to be Prime Minsiter of Bharat. No historcal narrative defines this except the screenplay of Gandhi which was based on a work of fiction called “Freedom at Midnight”.

The Indian National Congress turned down Jinnah’s brilliant plan called the Cabinet Mission Plan, because it wanted to build the Bharat that exists today–enslavement of 450 million Sudras (untouchables) and marginalization of 150 million Muslims.

Bharat is a Hindu state–the flag, the symbols, the festivals, and policies–”secularism” is a farce hiding behind “Hinduism Light”.

You sem to think that Bharat has a monopoly on truth and Mr. Cyber Gnadhi (an Indian) somehow has a lack of knowledge simply becuase he differs in his opinions from the propaganda that many are weaned on.

    7. thebloggernextdoor says:

Please understand that I do not dispute the facts and the research that lie behind the article. I also do NOT idolise Gandhi. He was, after all, a shrewd politician who had his faults. It is an exaggeration to call him Mahatma (same goes for Jinnah, however much people may love to call him “Quaid e Azam”).

Having said that, there are too many conclusions that are being drawn here.

Am I confused about the authorship? If there is a passage that has been quoted here from G.B. Singh’s book am I wrong in assuming that the author of the article agrees with and fully endorses that viewpoint? My “beef” is with that passage. If you don’t expect people to reply to that passage to you, don’t include it in your post.

What I’m saying is, simply because Gandhi preached peace and non-violence does not mean that we, as a country, can follow that philosophy 60 years after his death given the entirely different circumstances that India is in today. India’s foreign and military policy are NOT to be confused with Gandhi’s teachings and policies. He was a great leader etc and its OVER. Today we think for ourselves and make up our military policies (e.g. nuclear weapons) on the basis of our experiences for 60 years etc etc. When you talk about Gandhi, restrict your conclusions to include his lifetime and say, 5-6 more years. Nuclear weapons etc are completely irrelevant.

      And furthermore,
“Bharat is a Hindu state–the flag, the symbols, the festivals, and policies–”secularism” is a farce hiding behind “Hinduism Light”.”
Are you getting that from all that brilliant research or is that an opinion?? Your opinion, perhaps? On what basis are you calling Jinnah’s plan “brilliant”? Some great historical work, or your opinion? If you want to quote research and books, keep your opinions out of it. And, I’m just curious, how has Jinnah’s brilliant vision worked out for Pakistan? Coup after coup, utter chaos with the whole America-fundamentalists balancing act, when was the last time elections were held? It has always been, and still is, a failed state.

You seem intent on propounding some ludicrous anti-India rhetoric based on inherent prejudices. Firstly, since India has more Muslims than Pakistan, no Pakistani (or anyone else for that matter) is even remotely qualified to suggest that India is a Hindu state.

The fact of the matter is, a lot of the Dalits undergo terrible atrocities and live in unbearable conditions, true. But we also have parties like the BSP who represent them and are slowly rising to prominence, NGOs who are doing their best, and we also have quotas for them in all educational institutions and jobs. There is a dire need for other people in India to accept them as a part of their society and this is slowly happening. So it’s not perfect by a long shot, but it’s a work in progress. Slow progress, undoubtedly, but still progress.

As far as the Muslims are concerned, I don’t know which “historical treatise” you derive your opinions from or if you were just fed that as part of some brainwashing. I have many Muslim friends who are all perfectly happy to be Indian. They complain about terrorism just the same, they, too love to see India beat Pakistan at cricket and they are as Indian as anyone else. Now I am aware that many of the community are economically backward. But then, they have a strong representation in Parliament and quite some influence and things are getting better. If that’s not happening fast enough, the lethargy of the democratic system and the politicians is to be blamed, not some “marginalization”.

Now this can turn into another cliched India-Pakistan debate but I don’t want to get dragged into that. I’m merely saying that unless you live here, you are not in the least qualified to make grand accusations (this isn’t about Gandhi, I’m talking about India) based on foreign books and blogs.

Gandhi never was for Non-Violence. He supported every British War–war against the Zulus, war against the “Kaffirs” (a tribe of Africa). the Boeher war as well as WW1 and WW2. His advice to the Jews was to do mass suicide. He wrote to Hitler and called him his friend in multiple letters. Mohandas Gandhi’s antics are well established by the Nobel Peace Prize Committee and US Congress which repudiated his racism.

    9. thebloggernextdoor says:

This is in response to the previous comment. Well, I did not want to be dragged into this debate, but if you insist, I will allow myself an argument or two.

Firstly all the links that you have assiduously provided me are all of other articles written on the same site. All written by you or some other Pakistani. Coincidence? Or can you not find anyone else who will back up your ridiculous brainwashed claims?
And, I’m just curious, Zimbabwe does not seem to have made the ‘list of failed states’ on that blog, and the only country that actually seems to be discussed there is India (and the writing reeks of your brainwashed style). If you want to discredit India, at least do your homework properly. Your aversion to India is utmost childish. Let me assure you that any list of failed states that a neutral outsider makes will definitely include Pakistan(and most certainly Zimbabwe) and will definitely not include India. I can state that to a certainty.

” Pakistan provides a much better standard of living to its citizens, in terms of PER CAPITA GNP ”
Haha.. Good one. You should appear on one of those comedy reality shows. They’d love you. More importantly, where do you get these imaginary statistics from? If you can fabricate statistics here, one must ask the question whether the other information on the site is actually true. And, are you really willing to argue on economic terms? You have just dug your own grave in this debate, my friend. I would first like to point out that most economists are agreed that GNP is not at all a good indicator of the standard of living, but then I don’t expect you to know that. The accepted measure is the UN Human Development Index. But I will still humour you for the purposes of satisfying your curiosity.
In terms of per capita GNP, India ranks ahead of Pakistan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Countries_by_GNI_(PPP)_per_capita

In terms of per capita GDP, which is supposed to be a better indicator than GNP, there are 3 different organisations which do the rankings and all 3 have rated India ABOVE Pakistan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita

In terms of UN HDI, which is the best indicator, India is, YET AGAIN, ranked above Pakistan. Countries like the Solomon Islands, Laos and Burma actually outrank Pakistan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Human_Development_Index

The UN declared western Pakistan as one of the most dangerous places on the planet. Foreign advisors of most countries today strongly advise their citizens from travelling to Pakistan.

By former President Musharraf’s own admission, the ISI has been in cahoots with terrorist organisations in Pakistan and has actively helped their development and training in a foolish bid to unsettle India. Today, that support for extremism is costing it dearly.

The Pakistan government has admitted that the western regions of the country are no longer under their control. Varied extremist factions control that area among themselves. The government willingly handed over the Swat region to the Taliban to impose the inhuman Sharia law over the citizens. Are you telling me that Pakistan is a good place to live for those citizens in Swat and the western regions too? Don’t bother mentioning the war on the Taliban. That is a response that the government had to give under such tremendous US pressure. And your conclusion that 40% of India is not under its control is, at best, a fantasy.

Can you honestly tell me that you feel safe going to a hotel or a maketplace or a mosque in Pakistan? Every other day I read about another suicide attack there. (I don’t mean to jest about these things, I’m merely making a point. My heart goes out to the victims of those attacks and I hope Pakistan is able to get rid of that menace soon). Even the safety of sports teams cannot be guaranteed, e.g. the Sri Lanka incident. And please don’t bother giving me the link of that article you wrote about the RAW having a hand in that. Your arguments seemed weak and desperate at best and failed to convince me.

But the main problem is, that despite all the local economic and social problems, the Pakistan government continues to be obsessed with India. Ex Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s said in 1965 that if India built nuclear weapons Pakistan would too, “even if we have to eat grass.” And that is exactly what happened. Faced with huge domestic problems, Pakistan continues to purchase arms from USA and China with the charity money from the US pretending that these are going to help in the war on the Taliban. I read in a recent report that sea-to-air missiles and others of the same ilk have been purchased. Pray tell me how you are going to defeat the Taliban with sea-to-air missiles? After the Mumbai attacks, Pakistani politicians kept coming out with statements bragging about the military capacity of Pakistan and how it can match up to India etc, and they completely missed the expanding extremist menace that is now haunting their own people.

And all these are just the things I remember off the top of my head or have found in 10 mins of reading. I haven’t bothered to do extensive research about Pakistan’s problems, to spare you the blushes.

So, despite the disproportionality of the boom that India has experienced, despite the 450 million Dalits who are mistreated, despite all the poverty and numerous insurgencies and other issues, despite our so-called religious bigotry, “the failed state of Bharat”, as you call it, is STILL a better place to live in than Pakistan. It’s not just me, the rest of the world believes it too. If you don’t believe me, please find me a single article/report in the neutral (western) media that ratifies your view.

Now moving on. You seem to just state stubbornly that Dalits and Muslims are mistreated. Have you even bothered reading what I have written previously? You aren’t interested in realities, what seems to matter to you is proving that India is mistreating someone. You don’t care who that someone is, as long there is someone.

Let me just put forth a version of what you think: “Indian Muslims are being mistreated by the bigoted Hindus and have been since independence. They secretly harbour a desire to live in Pakistan, which is the only place where they’ll be happy”. Am I close to the mark?

Just to inform you, among the most celebrated stars of Bollywood are Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan etc. Each enjoys a fan following of millions across all religions and castes. Many Muslims in the Indian cricket team (Mohd Azharuddin, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Mohd Kaif, Zaheer Khan etc etc etc) also have huge fan followings and are universally loved by one and all. This list continues. Now, of course you will say, “what about the other 150 million of them”? Indian Muslims actually like being a part of the country. As hard as it may be for you to digest that fact, from my personal experiences, I find that to be true. Not that you have offered any proof to the contrary, that is.

As for India’s supposed war-mongering, I’m not even going to argue against your stubborn irrational arguments. I can only ask you to read the Wiki pages of the Indo-Pak and the Indo-China wars. That’s all. Do that, and then make up your mind. But then, I suppose you’ll say that Wikipedia is biased and that Indians have taken over it, I suppose. Such is the extent of your childishness.

As for Kashmir. when you mention the quote of a single person who wants to be a part of Pakistan, I can bring forth a million others who don’t. Stop putting forth stupid arguments. Fact of the matter is, the local Kashmiri just wants to go about his daily business of selling apples etc and he wants his children to go to school. All this India-Pakistan talk is complicating his life because terrorists keep attacking his town and fundmentalists keep telling him that India doesn’t want them and some others tell him that India is best for him and they organise riots that cripple regular life for this man. Ideally I’d want Kashmir to be independent and I think we should work toward setting up a viable government and economy so that it can sustain itself. Terrorists and fundamentalists are not helping in the least. The option of handing Kashmir over to Pakistan is simply not viable because Kashmir needs strong and stable governance, something Pakistan doesn’t seem capable of providing right now (I know you don’t believe that, but the rest of the world does, and that counts for more votes)

I have come to understand that rational arguments won’t alter your point of view. You seem obstinate in your point of view “India is the enemy and Pakistan is the best country in the world”. And it isn’t your fault. It is merely the propaganda that has been driven into your head over and over again. Of course you are entitled to your opinion. But when you influence your readers to believe this foolish viewpoint, that is just sad.

Fact of the matter is, Indians and Pakistanis are both victims of terror attacks and we also share much of of our culture in common. Despite what one may infer from my arguments earlier, I bear no ill will towards the citizens of Pakistan. I hope that they tide over the Taliban menace quickly and do manage to establish a democratic system. Much is to be gained by dropping the mutual animosity. But of course you hate India and will continue to write articles denigrating it. Go ahead. I don’t care.

      Good day to you.

    10. Moin Ansari says:

Your entire thesis is based on Bharat being one position higher than Pakistan on the Per capita GNP. One position makes India Shining and Pakistan a basket case? What kind of logic is that. Only an India could come up with that.

The fact remains that Bharat is a the basket case with the largest number of poor in the world.

Pakistani cities are modern, its infrastructure is much better with superb roads, great airports, good trains, while Bhrat is steeped in horrible slums, hunger and caste ridden penury.

According to the Hunger Index, Bhrat is at the lowest end of the ladder, below Burkino Faso. Half the population of Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Benaras live on the sidewalks and the city charges for it. Shining India only lives in the minds of Bollywood. The reality is different.

We assimilated all the sources in the links we sent you. IF you had read the articles you would have seen the links to all the international agencies. You and all Indians like you cannot read the articles or the links because you are scared to see the reality and want to live in one that is portrayed by Bollywood and tokenism.

Wiki is not a reliable source. it is infested with Indians. The US school system does not accept Wiki as reliable or a worthy reference on anything. Even on Wiki Bhrat is marginally better, one rank up. Considering that Pakistan was made up of the most backward areas of South Asia, this is a remarkable recovery. That is because of the last year and this year where Pakistan is at war. For the past 60 years Pakistan has been ahead of Bharat. The articles published have solid undeniable sources.

Recent comments about a country at war mean nothing.

450 million Dalits are enslaved in Bharat. 150 million Muslims marginalized (Sacahar report). Sachar looks beyond tokenism. Parading the movie stars proves the vacuity of the argument.

40% of Bharat is not under Central control. The Nazalites control them

For all of your statistics, none could show an outsider any visible difference. Muslims in Pakistan are much better off than Muslims in Bharat.

Geelani is not ONE person, he is the leader of the Hurriyat Conference the legitimate political party of the Kashmiris. If Bharat is not scared of Kashmir joining Pakistan. let it withdraw its 800,000 soldiers and see what happens. Hold the plebiscite and see what happens. A fake Article of Accession does not prove anything. See Alister Lamb’s writings on the Article of Accession.

    11. thebloggernextdoor says:

      And a couple more things..

Oooooh!! You have airports, trains and roads?? Wow.. We in India have never heard of those things. Pakistan must be soooo advanced.

India has one of the largest railways networks in the world, we have three times as many airports as Pakistan, the second longest road network in the world etc etc etc (I don’t like boasting). Swanky new airports are being built and existing ones renovated. Just visit Bangalore and Hyderabad and see if they don’t take your breath away. More and more trains (including everything from the expensive luxury trains to the cheap ones) are introduced every day and the Indian Railways Minister was recently called to Wharton to deliver a speech on how he managed to make Indian Railways into such a profit-making entity. Furthermore, Indian roads are being redeveloped with a new vigour. I know many highways which now have a MINIMUM speed limit rather than a maximum.

There are 13 Indian companies in the Fortune 500 (no Pakistani companies. I wonder why?), Indian companies are now taking over Western giants rapidly, and the average size of acquisition for an Indian company is $300 million. India is the world’s largest hub for outsourcing. This includes software and BPO services among others.

      Beat that.

” Bharat is a basket case “. Hahaha.. Awww… You sound like an angry seven year old. Please continue to write like this. It makes my day. I’m sure you have a lot of evidence to back up your claim. Lol.

And why the HELL should I give you any proof of statistics of Indian Muslims? I give you statistics of India. I don’t differentiate between religions. An Indian is an Indian. I suppose the concept of “secularism” is not something you even bother considering in Pakistan, considering that the very basis of the formation of your country was religion, but here in India we do. I admit that there are many here, too, who don’t. Every country has its bigots. But the difference is, there is still a sizeable section of people who are still “secular”. You can bang your head against the wall all you want, but that isn’t going to change. So here is my statement: INDIANS are better off in India than Pakistanis are in Pakistan. Period.

    12. Moin Ansari says:

India is below Barkino Faso on the Hunger Indiex and has for the past 60 years had a lower PER CAPITA GNP than Pakistan, a lower literacy rate than Lanka, and lower hunger index listing than Nepal. All links with appropriate references have been listed in the previous post. I guess you may have missed the key word BETTER infrastructure. I actually didn’t see ANY roads in Bharat. Even the freeways are worse than the GT road. The potholes infested dirt roads with some tar hardly pass of as “roads”. The dilapidated railway network is the laughing stock of the world, perhaps never updated since Delhouse built it. Individual Indian entrepreneurship has nothing to do with the state, and the billionaires are atypical reflection of a caste ridden stratified society. Let me guess, weren’t Birla and Tata millionaires in the 1940s? They were, this was one of the reasons for Pakistan.

So being one step higher on YOUR Wiki listing makes Bharat Shining? Amazing logic. Admit it, Bharat started out way ahead of Pakistan. In 1947, Pakistan had one textile mill, one jute factory that did not function and one university. Today there is a huge industrial sector and arms industry which destroyed the Indian terror in Sri Lanka. Indian attempts to destabilize Pakistan have failed to deter the nation. Just like Lanka destroyed the RAW sponsored LTTE, the Pakistan Army has destroyed the RAW sponsored TTP.

Pakistan’s per capita income rises to $1,027
May 21st, 2008 – 1:35 pm ICT by admin – Email This PostIslamabad, May 21 (IANS) Pakistan’s per capita income has risen to $1,027 in fiscal 2007-08 against $878 in the last financial year. The total size of Pakistan’s economy went up to $170.8 billion in the fiscal that ends June 30 against $143.9 billion in the previous fiscal to register a growth of $26.9 billion, says a paper forwarded by the National Accounts Committee (NAC) to the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC).

During the last financial year, the provisional per capita estimate claimed by the then government of prime minister Shaukat Aziz was $925 but was reduced to $878 in accordance with the finalised per capita income related figures.

Inflation is projected at 10.5 percent in the current fiscal.

Quoting from the NAC paper, The News said Wednesday that production of major crops fell one percent due to lower than expected output of wheat and cotton.

Production of minor crops also fell 2.97 percent.

This meant overall farm produce grew a mere 1.49 percent in 2007-08.

Wheat production is estimated at 21.7 million tonnes in the current fiscal against 23.3 million in the previous financial year.

Keeping this in mind the government of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani has decided to import 2.5 million tonnes of wheat in addition to the 1.7 million tonnes that have already been imported at an estimated cost of Pakistani Rs.60 billion.

Rice production stands at 5.5 million tonnes against the envisaged target of 5.7 million tonnes, while cotton production is estimated at 5.9 million tonnes against 6.5 million tonnes in the previous fiscal.

The production of sugarcane registered an increase to 63 million tonnes in fiscal 2007-08 against 54 million tonnes in the previous year.

GNP to reach $150 billion, per capita income $950 this year

ISLAMABAD (May 22 2007): Despite high international oil prices and devastating earthquake 2005, the economy has grown on an annual average of 7.5 percent during the last four years 2003-06. This year, 2006-07 by achieving growth rate of over 7 percent, the GNP would reach about $150 billion and per capita income around $950.

The growth is broad-based agriculture sector particularly on account of wheat, pulses and sugarcane production and livestock development has achieved a high growth rate of 5 percent in 2006-07, large-scale manufacturing has grown in double digits and growth in services sector has also been robust.

Total investment has increased tremendously in recent years. It reached all-time record level of Rs 1,900 billion in 2006-07 and National Savings at Rs 1,500 billion.

Total foreign investment is rising every year. This year it is expected to reach to $6 billion – highest in South Asia. The workers’ remittances an important component of national savings is increasing fast. It will be around $5.5 billion by end June 2007. Tight monetary policy is pursued by the State Bank of Pakistan to control rising inflationary pressures.

The fiscal accounts have considerably improved in recent years. Revenues are buoyant, expenditures are rationalised. Revenue deficit is eliminated and public debt and fiscal deficit has been brought to a sustainable level. It is expected that CBR collection would exceed the target of Rs 835 billion in 2006-07.

Although the trade deficit is on the higher side, rising FDI and workers’ remittances over $6 billion and $5.5 billion respectively would keep the external account position comfortable. Foreign exchange reserves currently stand around $14 billion expected to reach around $14.4 billion by end June representing about seven months of imports an improvement of $1.1 billion over the last year level.

The public expenditure on social sectors has increased from Rs 103 billion in 2001-02 to Rs 228 billion in 2005-06 reflecting an increase of 22 percent per annum.

The pro-poor expenditure has also increased sharply by 27 percent annually from Rs 180 billion 2001-2002 to Rs 464 billion in 2005-06. In terms of GDP, the expenditure during this period has increased from 4 percent to 6 percent.

Poverty has declined significantly from 34 percent in 2001 to 24 percent in 2005. Situation should further improve with the good agriculture growth this year. Unemployment rate has declined from historically high level of 8.3 percent in 2001-02 to 6.2 percent in 2005-06.

Knowledge based economy, technology driven development, innovation, value addition, and establishment of quality/accredited laboratories and achievement of MDGs and long-term objectives of the Vision 2030.

Slumdog Millionaire is about to be declared the best movie of the year. However most Indians hate the movie because it shows them the reality that they are unable and unwilling to see. The India that exists in the minds of the minds of Indians does not really exist

Talk to an Indian, any Indian, and he or she will talk to you about India the Superpower–convinced that India has already reached stardom because of its humongous IT industry and 6 Billionaires. Try to poke the bubble and be ready for a volatile reaction, abuse, and even threats.

Try to remind an Indian about the reality of the “IT sector” (glorified call centers) and take your life in your own hands. Let them know that the “IT industry” is only $42 Billion, a drop in the ocean that effects only 6 million people in the land of the cow, and be ready for a death sentence.

Bollywood movies are not filmed in India anymore, because Indians do not want to see the slums—most Indians have thus become oblivious to them, they ignore the penury stricken population and the poverty that makes the lives of millions hell on earth. Too busy blaming outside powers for their endemic problems, Indian politicians have a favorite whipping boy–Pakistan. India intoxicated by meager success is blind to real self-portrait of caste infested penury and balkanization

“Think of the considerateness of the city, its entire superiority to trifles, its disregard of all those things we spoke of so proudly when we were founding our [ideal] city; we said that, except from altogether extraordinary natures, no one could turn out a good man unless his earliest years were given to noble games, and he gave himself wholly to noble pursuits. Is it not sublime how this city tramples all such things under foot, and is suprememly indifferent as to what life a man has led before he enters politics? If only he asserts his zeal for the multitude, it is ready to honour him.” (Pg. 254, The Republic, Translation by Lindsay, 1954, London: JM Dent & Sons)

India has a few blind spots. It does not know about the blind spots. There is no one to show her the blind spots. India, a youthful country overrun by youngsters eking out a subsistence living in the mirage of Bollywood is unable to look at itself with any semblance of realism. A star struck destitute and impecunious populace is proud of evanescent and unattainable trophies, venerating educational institutions it can only brag about (never get admitted to), Billionaires it can worship on statistic charts and luxuries that it can dream about.

There is much to hate in this film, and it certainly doesn’t appear as a “feel-good” venture by a long shot. Still what it brings to the table in terms of realism as well as presenting vast vignettes of unintended comedy through the use of mixed metaphors makes the experience worthwhile. In particular, I heartily recommend the film to the Indian middle classes and in particular to anyone still harboring communist sympathies in the country. Asia Times. Slumdog communists By Chan Akya

Inebriated by blindness towards a the goal of superpower status this populace is unable to see the deep cavities within its boundaries. Young xenophobic India votes for those that are hegemonistic and autochthonous. Its leadership impervious of the needs of the penurious is focused on expansionism and destabilizing its neighbors. It behaves like crack-addicts overwhelmed by blind hatred for Buddhists (the real ones who are not Hindu), Dalits, Christians and Muslims–this leadership doesn’t have a clue of what the white world thinks of Indians– unavoidable supplicators at best and disposable computer coolies at worst!

How Buddhism was exterminated from South Asia? 600BC-400AD Replacing Hinduism in Buddhist lands: The Hindu extremists use the Safron Swastika flag instead of the tri-colored flag of India. (see Hindu unity dot org) Extremist Hindus show power using the Swastika in triple entendre–as an ancient Hindu symbol, reverence for Hitler & sign of Anti-Western Indian hatred. Many want to use the Swastika as the Indian flag.

India is behaving a like a pumped up balloon Michelin mascot; pumped by the Americans who need crutches to needle China; pumped up by the British who cannot fight the good war in Afghanistan and expect India to clean up the mess that they have made.

The world is strapped with an unimpressive Indian Prime Minister who delivers written speeches without passion and without any moral convictions. A henpecked Indian Prime Minister has pointed to a “foreign hand” a pointed finger at “Pakistan and or Bangladesh” which itself is a euphemism for Muslims and Islam.

Nehru with all his faults and infatuation with Socialism at least had the ability to make a speech. Indira Gandhi for all her frailties could handle herself and present a positive image of India. Dr. Manmohan Singh makes the imbecilic Pakistani President look like a giant. Pranab Mukherjee makes the low IQ Gilani look like Einstein. What is wrong with a “democracy” that cannot produce leaders?

For what it shows above all else is that the most important ingredient of any emerging economy is the dynamics of development. Political and religious differences matter little when the basic impetus to growth and progress is missing. This is precisely the case in India today where the government gets away with making welfare payments but without infrastructure investments; where communist sympathizers monopolize the distribution of government funds to the point where waste is a national pastime and the frustrations of the underclass are ever increasing.

It is not a big exaggeration to highlight the importance of this film for Indians. That said, it is highly likely that Indians would themselves like to pretend that the film was never made, particularly if it fails to win any further accolades. For that reason alone, perhaps this film deserves to secure an Academy Award. For how many other times can these awards actually claim to have to reset the course of a billion people?Asia Times. The poor of India, the Dalits, the scheduled classes, the Christians, the Naxalites and the Muslims left behind the onward march towards…march towards what? No one know. Ask the irredentist Akhand Bhartis who hated the vivisection of Mother India. Wars with all her neighbors. All this for the reabsorption of all states surrounding it into a huge monolith which may have existed for 80 years under the reign of Ashoka. Many question whether the mythical king ever existed. Ashoka’s kingdom is the Nirvana of India. Few Indians know that Ashoka is as fugacious as his mythical kingdom. Did Ashoka exist? Did Pandit Radhakantta create him for James Princep in 1837. Ashoka’s name first appeared in British journals when the White man was writing “Indian history” (James Princep was the first to coin the term “Ashoka). But don’t tell the pundits (the real ones, not the talking heads on Fox and CNN)–thier entire life depends on churning out the youth who believe in Akhand Bharat.

A brianwashed nation unable to comprehend simple facts like–if one cannot control the current states, how can it control hundreds of millions that are forced into “India”–especially if the million are belligerent and don’t wnat to be part of the mess called “India”. However these are details that are not mentioned in a nation that resembles Weimar Germany–fed on a steady dose of hatred, xenophobia and hostility towards real and perceived enemies.

Slumdog paupers: The Oscar-nominated film has made £70m but its two child stars still live in abject poverty By Liz Thomas, Last updated at 8:54 AM on 20th February 2009
Stretched out on a shabby makeshift cot next to piles of rubble and dirt, he could be any of Mumbai’s 2.5million slum children.

In fact, the scrawny young boy is the star of one of the biggest films of the year. Slumdog Millionaire is expected to win a clutch of Oscars on Sunday for its uplifting story of a boy from the slums who wins the jackpot on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

The movie has grossed £70million worldwide, made British director Danny Boyle the darling of Hollywood and turned lead actors Dev Patel and Frieda Pinto into big names.

Disease: Rubina stands over a blocked drain near her house

But there is no sign of life imitating art for two of the youngest actors, who many feel are the real stars of the film.

Slumdog Millionaire’s Dev and Freida are not just on-screen lovers says their co-star as he talks of their ‘magical chemistry’

They are still living in squalor on the outskirts of Mumbai, despite assurances from Boyle that they were paid well.

Rubina as the young Latika in Slumdog Millionaire

He and producer Christian Colson said the child actors were paid ‘three times the amount of an annual adult salary’ for what amounted to a month’s work, although he has refused to give an actual figure.

Despite his claim, ten-year-old Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, who plays the lead character’s brother Salim, still lives with his family in extreme poverty.

Their home is a flimsy structure made of tarpaulins and blankets in the overcrowded Behrampada shanty area, where rats crawl around in daylight and sewage runs untreated as children play barefoot.

Washing is done outside, using a bowl of cloudy water and surrounded by piles of rubbish.

At other times, Azharuddin sits with his father and mother on rotting blocks of wood and dusty matting that seem to form the bed that the three of them share.

His mother Shameem Ismail, who is blind in one eye, said: ‘He’s supposed to be the hero in the movie, but look how he’s living. It’s a zero.

‘We need money and help now. It is hard living like this. I am worried that after the Oscars are over they will forget us and no one will be interested.’

Starting the day: Azharuddin washes his face in a bowl of cloudy water, surrounded by piles of rubbish

In fact, the family is now worse off than they were when Slumdog Millionaire was filmed, because the illegal hut they were living in was demolished by the authorities.

His father Mohammed Ismail usually brings in 1,500 to 3,000 rupees (£20 to £40) a month selling scrap wood, but he has tuberculosis and often cannot work.

Ismail’s role as the young Salim has captivated millions across the world

Azharuddin’s parents had hoped the film would be their ticket out of the slums.

Instead, its success has made them realise just how little their children had been paid.

Rubina Ali, nine, who plays the young version of Latika, the film’s heroine, lives a few hundred yards away. Her shack is brightly coloured – but a disease-ridden open sewer runs close by.

Her father, Rafiq Ali Kureshi, a carpenter, broke his leg during filming and has been out of work since.

In a recent interview he said: ‘I am very happy the movie is doing so well but it is making so much money and so much fame and the money they paid us is nothing. They should pay more.’

Azharuddin and Rubina are the only two of the film’s six main child actors to come from such a poor background.

Around 65million people in India – a quarter of the urban population – live in slums.

More than half of Mumbai’s 19million population live in the shanty towns that sprawl out of the city.

The £10million film, which follows the story of a boy born in the slums who can answer all the questions on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? correctly because of his life experiences, has been an unlikely box office hit.

Living in squalor: Amid rat-infested rubble, the ten-year-old and his father Mohammed rest in the heat on a cot outside their shanty

It has scooped awards including four Golden Globes and seven Baftas, and is nominated for ten Oscars.

Sunday’s ceremony will be a lavish affair, but a spokesman for the film last night refused to say if Azharuddin and Rubina would attend.

Boyle and Colson have strenuously denied claims that any of the children have been exploited.

In a statement, they said they ‘paid painstaking and considered attention to how Azharuddin and Rubina’s involvement in the film could be of lasting benefit over and above the payment they received for their work’.

Real life: Rubina, in the blue top, stands in the doorway of her home

The pair added that the children, who have never received formal eduction, had been enrolled in school since last June at the production company’s expense until they are 18.

They attend Aseema, a non-profit English-language school for underprivileged children. Many who attend need counselling and substantial help and guidance for even the most basic life skills.

On one blackboard, the lesson of the day read: ‘I must close my mouth when I eat.’

Azharuddin and Rubina will also receive a substantial lump sum when they complete their education, although Boyle declined to reveal the figure for fear of putting them at risk.

Boyle also said that additional money was in place to cover health care and emergencies.

Mr Ismail, however, has been dismissive of the efforts.

He has said: ‘There is none of the money left. It was all spent on medicines to help me fight TB. We feel the kids have been left behind by the film. They have told us there is a trust fund but we know nothing about it and have no guarantees.’

On screen: Rubina, centre, and Azharuddin, right, in the film Slumdog Millionaire

Colson said there was ‘a conscious decision not to shower’ the children with cash because they could not handle it ‘psychologically and practically’.

He said that when Azharuddin’s home was demolished, money was wired to the family to find a new home.

And he said it was feared the parents’ commitment to ensuring the children had a proper education had waned.

The filmmakers also claim they have now agreed to buy apartments for the two children and allow the families to move in, with the stipulation that they will not own the property unless the youngsters complete their education.

Tonight, however, a spokesman for the film was unable to provide further details about the apartment plans.

Success: Slumdog director Danny Boyle, left, and star Dev Patel, right, hold one of the many awards the film has scooped so far

      Charity’s anger
Slumdog Millionaire faces fresh controversy after implicating a real charity in the abuse of street children.

In the film, a criminal gangmaster pretends to rescue street children, taking them in an orange minibus with ‘Hope’ emblazoned on the side.

The children are then forced into begging and prostitution.

But the real-life Hope Foundation also uses orange vans with the word ‘Hope’ on them to help care for street children in Calcutta.

It has received hundreds of emails from people confusing it with the fictional charity.

The charity’s ambassador, ITV newsreader Andrea Catherwood, said: ‘The situation is frustrating and deeply disappointing.’

Celador Films, which made the movie, said there had been ‘no intention to imply a connection with the Hope Foundation’.

    14. @ Moin Ansaria
You remind me of Mahammed Ali Jeena- the one who took India for a ride. I am going to leave the Indian Question for another day because I am interested in your comments on South Africa.

Firstly, you incorrectly refer to us as Indians. We are Africans who practise many religion viz Hinduism,Islam,Christianity ,etc but we are not Indians.

Lets look at Mbogeni Ngema and his song. Mr Ngema was completely out of line. He used his song to get political mileage and support for his work. He is infact a very shrewd businessman.

The “Indians” you refer to as supporters of the Apartheid Govt were very few. These people were mostly afraid of a rampant evil govt who subjected those who opposed them to much violence. Many lost their property and livelyhood. The vast majority of them supported the ANC.You must remember a large part of this group had no formal education and enslaved by the Apartheid Govt.

The fact that Africa decided to treat this particular group harshly is not because they treated Africans badly but because of their success. We continue to serve Africa and yes the evil of caste is not part of our lives.

Suffice to say Moin Ansari you are completely out of depth in this issue. I suggest you continue your “war with India” which you know a lot more about.

    15. Moin Ansari says:

      Ram its you again–

“Donald” you are wirting to us from England–that destroys all your credability. You post as a South African–but you are not–you are the progeny of those who collaborated. Mbogeni Ngema was right on. If you have issues with him–please take it up with him–instead of shooting the messenger.

There is no war–the “Indians” (of Indian origin) of South Africa do identify themselves as “Indian”. They collaborated with the Colonial rulers–most notably Mohanadas Gandhi and his cabal. They reenforced apartheid by asking for special treatment for themselves–Please read Mr. Singhs latest book on Mr. Gandhi’s racism in South Africa.

The “Indians” were thrown out of Kenya and Uganda–but do survive in South Africa.

Jinnah didn’t ake anyone for a ride. Read Jaswant Singhs latest book…it was Gandhi

    16. Beauty says:

Please can someone answer this, why are indians so racist against balck people? Throughout the years I lived in Africa, I saw this. The most embarrasing thing was how indians just worshipped whites. I believe that aparteid continued so long in SA because the indians there hated the blacks so much and would rather be lapdogs to whites than see blacks as equal. The indians worship of whites continues even today (see how the bollywood “stars” behave when any white non entity acts in their film) as does thier vulgar racism towards the blacks. Why is this?

    17. Moin Ansari says:

It is party religious and partly becuase of the colonial legacy. The Brahamnic interpretation of the Hindu scriptures say that “Dasyus”, the black ones were made for offering pleeasure to the white ones.

Aryan conquest in South Asia led to the enslavement of the darker skinned Dalits. Today 450 million Dalits and Scheduled caste slaves are fighting for the right to be considered a human being.

The British also instituted racism which the brown sahibs continued.

Mr. Gandhi was the worst racist Bharati (aka Indian) politician–he filed papers in South Africa courts which said nasty things about how blakcs stink and are sorse than animals—and how “Indians” should be given separate facilities from the “Kaffirs” (African tribe).
