After the discussion and announcement of agreements between General Patraeus and Ferghana, Rupee News analyzed the situation and discussed the movement of the Afghan war Westward. Now the media strories are appearing which report the nervousness of the Uzbek dictator known for his brutality and repressive regime.
For years we have shed light on the pull and push theory. Can the $80 Billion Think Tank industry not comprehend the simple truths described by Peter Senge in his seminal book “The 5th Discipline“. They theory goes as follows. When the Police cracks down on drug dealers on 42nd street, the drug dealing does not disappear, it simply moved to 52nd street or gets dispersed over a bigger area out of reach of the police raids. Similarly when the US bombs the insurgents in East Afghanistan, it is but obvious that they will find shelter and hideouts on the Duran Line and beyond. TASHKENT: Uzbek President Islam Karimov on Friday said he feared rising tensions in Pakistan could trigger unrest in Central Asia.
“Radicals may be reinvigorated by the recent events in Pakistan,” he said.
After talks with the Uzbek president, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told a press conference that Russia was ready to cooperate with the United States on Afghanistan and help with the transit of non-military supplies. “Let us hope the new US administration will be more successful in the Afghan settlement than its predecessor,” Medvedev said.
“We are ready for full-fledged and equal cooperation on security in Afghanistan, including with the United States,” the Russian president added. “We are ready to work on the most complicated issues, including the transit of non-military goods.”
Cooperation on Afghanistan has been the most successful project uniting NATO and Russia, whose relations froze after Moscow’s brief war in Georgia last August. Before the war, Russia agreed to allow non-military NATO supplies to be delivered to Afghanistan across its territory bypassing Pakistan. Reuters. The Daily Times. Pak tensions can trigger unrest in Central Asia, says Karimov.
Recent days have witnessed increased targeting of US trucks supplying essential items to Afghanistan.UK Reality check on the war in Afghanistan. We first brought up this issue several years ago. According to the military and defense experts we talked to, the transportation of arms and food through Georgis is not feasible and is part of the US Army’s psy ops strategy. This sort of press release is an attmept to put pressure on Pakistan. The facts on the ground dictate that the US supply routes have to go through Pakistan. Central Asia map: Kyrgyzstan moving closer to Pakistan
BACKGROUND: After the October revolution of 1917, Lenin and later Stalin forcibly inculcated the Central Asian Republics of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan.
The USSR offered the Muslim republics of Central Asia a confederation and the right to secede. However Islam was abolished in the name of “secularism“, mosques were banned and Muslim practices were illegal. The central Asian republics kept the faith alive. In the 80s many of these Muslims were conscripted and to fight the Afghans. They were impressed by the Afghan fighters. One such former Russian trooper was Juma Namangani.
Uzbeks Juma Namangani, and Tohir Yuldashev were inspired by Babur. In 1998, they formed The Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), a militant group that wants to eliminate Soviet and Russian influences from Uzbekistan and the other former Central Asian republics.
The unrest that led to the formation of the IMU began in December 1991, when some unemployed young Muslims seized the Communist Party headquarters in the eastern city of Namangan, incensed at the mayor’s refusal to give them land on which to build a mosque. The men were led by Tohir Abdouhalilovitch Yuldeshev, and Jumaboi Ahmadzhanovitch Khojaev. Yuldeshev, a 24-year-old college drop-out, was a well-known mullah in the Islamic underground movement, while Khojaev was a former Soviet paratrooper who had served in Afghanistan where he was said to have developed a high regard for the mujahidin against whom he fought and revitalized his Muslim faith.
The IMU’s creation was announced from Kabul by Namangani and Yuldeshev, the latter having settled here by this time as a guest of the Taliban. Yuldeshev was also given a residence in Kandahar, where Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s spiritual leader, and Osama bin Laden also lived. By now Yuldeshev had met bin Laden, who recognized the Uzbek as a potential ally in Central Asia, a region where al Qaeda had few contacts and cultivated him as such. Namangani and Yuldeshev decided to move their operations to Afghanistan in 1997 in the face of fresh crackdowns in Uzbekistan, provoked by a series of bloody murders attributed to the Uzbek Islamic extremists. Moreover, the ceasefire in Tajikistan made it an unreliable sanctuary, while the Taliban made natural allies for Yuldeshev and Namangani, not least in that Karimov was supporting the anti-Taliban forces in Afghanistan. Center for Defense Information
The IMU objective is to overthrow President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan, and to create an Islamic state.
In 1999 and 2000 the IMU launched a series of audacious raids into Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan from Tajikistan and Taliban-controlled areas of northern Afghanistan. These raides alarmed Russia and China and they formed the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. These raids also alarmed the USA and are considered one of the main reasons for the devastating attack on Afghanistan
The IMU and the Taliban were on the verge of eliminating the Northern Alliance which was supported by India, Russia and Iran. In 2001 Afghan bombing started. The IMU was specifically targeted and dispersed into the countryside along with the Taliban. Namangani was killed but. Yuldeshev and a large number of fighters escaped.
The IMU has made some statements against the Pakistan government according the Adnkronos International, which is an Italian news agency formed in 2003 to report news of the Middle East. The IMUs support for the Red Mosque confirms foreign connections to the Red Mosque terrorists. There are reports that the IMU has been infiltrated by Indian, and anti-Pakistan elements.107 Indian “Consulates” in Afghanistan spreading terror to Pakistan
Islamic movement of Uzbekistan and Uzbek militants in North Waziristan, Qadri Tahir Yaldeshiv, in a video message, according to Adnkronos International. He also urged Muslims to avenge the Lal Masjid operation in July 2007 that left more than 100 militants and hardcore madrassa students dead, the German news agency said.Yaldshiv also talked about the need for strict Sharia law in Pakistan.
“Pakistan came into being in the name of Islam, therefore Islam should be enforced in the country.”The Uzbek commander is not popular among pro-Taliban militants in North Waziristan. Hundreds of his men were killed early last year in an offensive by local tribal fighters led by Mullah Nazir. The rivalry was renewed last week when suspected Uzbek militants attacked two pro-Taliban offices in North Waziristan, killing eight.
There are reports that local tribesmen have assembled an army of hundreds to avenge the killings. The government of Pakistan has to discuss the actions of the Uzbek residents with Uzbekistan. This cross-border terrorism should not go unpunished.http://moinansari.wordpress.com/2008/01/20/bla-a-threat-to-international-peace-by-ahmad-shah-baloch-the-bla-is-the-creation-of-indian-intelligence-agencies-which-are-trying-to-create-instability-in-the-areas-bordering-iran-and-afghanista/
