The last time the Indian government handed over a list of 20 it got another list from Paksitan. the name on the top of the Pakistani list was that of Mr. Adhvani. India backed off after Pakistan test fired three missiles, one short range, one medium range and one long range. To make assurance double sure, it also test fired a Cruise Missile.

New York: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has rejected India’s demand to hand over Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Mohd. Sayeed and other fugitives in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks, and doubted whether the arrested terrorist is a Pakistani.

Two days after New Delhi’s demarche, demanding the handing over of 20 fugitives, Mr. Zardari made known Pakistan’s reluctance to part with them. “If we had proof, we would try them in our courts. We would try them in our land and we would sentence them,” he said on “Larry King Live” programme on CNN on Tuesday night.

Pakistan has again said no the ephemircal and capricious list made up by the worst bigots in the Indian government. President Zardari one of the most obsequious presidents Pakistan has ever after a unity meeting with all the political parties of Pakistan has suddenly grown cahunas. His two “Nos” to India come as a surprise even to his worst critics and have endeared him to the Pakistani nation.

The [indian] government is having a hard time maintaining its formal position, which distinguishes terrorist groups based in Pakistan that would have carried out the attack and the Pakistani government as such. The public opinion doesn’t buy the subtle distinction, but the government has little choice in the matter.

Indeed, the Indian establishment seems to lack conviction in what it is saying by way of absolving the Pakistani security agencies of any hand in perpetrating the terrorist attack. The alternative for the government would be tantamount to calling the attack by its name – an act of war – on the part of the Pakistani establishment, given its massive scale. But that will oblige India to respond to the perceived aggression militarily, which of course is unthinkable as a nuclear flashpoint is reachable within no time. There is an existing registered FIR [Police Report] against L.K. Advani, the leader of the Hinduist extremist Indian organization Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), for the attempted murder of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid e Azam, Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

1) President Zardari has said no to the Indain request for the 20 so called criminals

2) President Zardari has also said no to the Indian assertion that the terrorist was a Pakistan. This fact has already been ascertinaed by independent investigations by British and US agenst, the Paksitani intelligence services and even the British press. Meanwhile, in an interview with the CNN, President Zardari rejected allegations about Pakistan’s involvement in the attacks. No evidence, he said, had been produced to substantiate such claims.

The state of Pakistan is in no way responsible,” he said.

“I think these are stateless actors who have been operating throughout the region. Pakistan itself has been a victim of terrorism and fighting the menace resolutely,” he said. “Even the White House and the American CIA have said that the state of Pakistan is not involved. We’re among the victims. I’m a victim. The state of Pakistan is a victim. We are victims of this war, and I am sorry for the Indians, and I feel sorry for them,” he said. Muslims do not wear the Hindu religious symbol. It would be like a Jew wearing the cross. Fanatics who procliam to be Muslims supposedly adhere to the fundamentalist principles. They would never wear Hindu symbols. Why is this person idnetified as a terrorist wearing a Hindu symbol of Kelva or Rakhi.

Reports in several newspapers on Wednesday suggested that Pakistan is reluctant to act on the list given to it by India. The reports quoted “official sources” as dismissing the lists as “old.” The Dawn quoted an unnamed Interior Ministry official saying that Pakistan had “repeatedly” told India that some of these people were not in this country and that “solid evidence” was required to act against Pakistani nationals included in the list.

Another report in The News quoted unnamed officials saying that the government had already “cleared” the Pakistani nationals on the list but had kept them under “surveillance.”

“The organisations banned by the Musharraf regime in the wake of 9/11 have been under constant surveillance and all those freed have already been cleared by intelligence agencies after thorough investigations,” an official told the newspaper. The Hindu

Something stinks to high heaven. It just does not make any sense at all.

The identified terrorist is supposedly from a small Pakistani town of Faridkot. There are no Hindus in Faridkot. The person identified would not have a clue about Hindu customs. If anything he would shun the symbol of Hindusim. Orthodox Muslims consider it haram to wear Kalava. Something is fishy. The BBC investigating the terrorist did an independent investigation in Faridkot. They sent journalists to the small town. There was no evidence of any person called Ajmal who was missing. There were five Ajmals in the town. Four were present and the fifth one was also accounted for. No one recognized “Ajmal” as identified by India. Something is not right.

When [President Zardari was] asked about a suspect who is in Indian custody, he said: “We have not been given any tangible proof to say that he is definitely a Pakistani. I very much doubt that he is a Pakistani.” He said that stateless individuals were also killing people in Pakistan. “Like I said these are stateless individuals. We’ve had incidents over the past two days in Karachi where we’ve lost more than 40 to 45 people and hundreds injured. These are stateless actors who are moving throughout this region,” he added. Zardari rules out returning fugitives ‘Stateless actors’ did it in Mumbai

New Delhi’s outrage was voiced by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee. He said the country has every right to protect its territorial integrity and would take “appropriate action” as it feels necessary to deal with the terror strikes emanating from Pakistan. He also did not rule out military strikes against terror camps in Pakistan.

Mr. Zardari said he doubted India’s claim that the captured gunman was a Pakistan national. “We have not been given any tangible proof to say that he is definitely a Pakistani. I very much doubt that he’s a Pakistani.”

Denying Pakistan’s involvement in the attacks, he said the terror strikes were executed by “stateless actors,” who wanted to hold the “entire world hostage.”

“These [terrorists] are stateless actors, who have been operating throughout the region. They include gunmen and the planners and are holding the entire world hostage. The State of Pakistan is not responsible for the attacks in Mumbai… even the White House and the CIA have said so,” he said.

The President ruled out any possibility of Pakistan and India going to war, saying “democracies do not go to war.” The three wars took place during dictatorships in Pakistan, he said.

“This is time to come together, do a joint investigation and look at the problem in the larger context. The threat is in the region and just not to Bombay or to India. The threat [also is] to the State of Pakistan. There’s a threat to Afghanistan, It’s a threat throughout region. So that would be counterproductive,” he said. – PTI The Hindu. December 3rd, 2008

India is caught in a Catch 22-it cannot blame the real culprits in the Mumbai matter–inernal terrorists. Doing so will make it sound weak and unabe to defend itself. It has to blame Pakistan and then it has to show assertiveness or the current Congress Government will be swept from power. As feverish diplomatic activity tries to delay the Pakistani response and blunt the affectiveness of the preparedness, India is poised and ready to go to phase two of Operation “Kali Aandhi”, the Pakistani armed forces are fully cognizant of the US and Indian plans. Pakistan to US: No pay-No play: Tough lessons on geography!

… factor working on the US will be the pressure that all this might put on the transit facilities for supplying the troops. Roughly 75% of the supplies for the US troops pass through Pakistan and there are no viable alternate routes except through Iran for supplying the units deployed in the insurgency-ridden southern and southeastern regions of Afghanistan. Third, without Pakistan’s support, the Taliban will have a field day in the border regions. And the casualties for the NATO forces will mount, which will have serious political implications for the European capitals.
