If the Indian narrative is to be believed, this was the work of the Lashkar e Tayaba’s 10 terrorists who had to go to Mumbai to find Americans to kill. If the Indian narrative is it be believed, the Lashkar e Tayaba terrorists traveled 12 hours to get to Mumbai were clean shaved (all Lashkar e Tayaba people have beards), sore Hindus symbols of worship (strings on the arms) and knew how to get into the Taj and Oberoi Hotel through the pantry and kitchen (exactly knowing the weaknesses in the hotels). Pretty good guesswork for FOBs (fresh off the boat) terrorists who even surprised Ratan Tata into saying that this was unbelievable (in so many words).

At the behest of his paymasters, Mr. Hussain Haqqani orchestrated the UN sanctions against the so called Lashkar proxy called Jamad Ud Dawa. Never mind that the Jamad ud Dawa runs hospitals and day care centers that were shut down by the ZardariGovernment this week to “comply with US resolutions (no Indian demands or US diktats). The Zardari Government thinks low of the IQ of the Pakistani people. The PPP Government thinks that it has really fooled the Pakistanis into believing that this was the handiwork of the UN and not the US, India or the PPPP.

One only has to read the Urdu press, or the statements of the people on the street in Islamabad and Karachi to see the loathing for Mr. 10%.

WASHINGTON, Dec 15: The United States believes that after the Mumbai attacks India’s air force began preliminary preparations for possible strikes at suspected terrorist camps in Pakistan, a US news channel reported on Monday.

US military officials confirmed to CNN that the United States had information, indicating that India began to prepare air force personnel for possible missions into Pakistan after the terror attacks.

“The comments indicate that the two nuclear powers were perhaps closer to conflict in the days just after the Mumbai attacks than previously acknowledged,” the American television network observed.

One Pentagon official told CNN that the Indian air force “went on alert”.

A second official said the United States concluded these preliminary preparations would have put India quickly in the position to launch air-strikes against suspected terrorist camps and targets inside Pakistan. During these preparations, a number of senior US officials were urging India to exercise restraint.

Until now, the Bush Administration has publicly said it saw no signs of military movement by India and no indication that the Indian government was preparing any type of retaliation. Dawn. ‘India was ready for air strike’ By Our Correspondent

So far so good. If we stick with the Indian narrative, the Lashkarknow what to do. It kept 1200 armed and trained Indian Army men and its most elite troops the MARCOS and the Black Cat commandos at bay for 60 hours. 12000 against 10. Even the Israeli commandos could not dislodge the deeply entrenched terrorists.

What message does this send to the terrorists? The message sent is that its 10 vs 1200 and that a dozen terrorists can bring the nuclear armed neighbors to war.

The Pentagon officials broadly described the activity as checking on the status of crew, fighter jets and weapons that were available. The extent of the reported preparation was not immediately known.

The report, however, indicates that the Bush administration took the possibility of an India-Pakistan war over the Mumbai terror attacks much more seriously than they publicly acknowledge.

US Secretary of State CondoleezzaRice and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen visited both India and Pakistan right after the attacks, apparently to ease tensions between the neighbours.

On their return to Washington, both officials said they saw no indication that either India or Pakistan were preparing for a war.

But in an interview to CNBC on Friday, Ms Rice said that while in New Delhi she urged Indian leaders not to take actions that could destabilise the region.

“Anything that, in fact, would make the situation worse or might introduce unintended consequences is not going to be good for the stability of the region,” said Ms Rice. “It isn’t going to address what needs to be done, and that was also my message to India.”

The statement confirms that the US not only worried about the possibility of the Mumbaiattacks leading to a war but also discussed it withIndian and Pakistani leaders, urging both to show restraint. Dawn. ‘India was ready for air strike’ By Our Correspondent

The US and international media is reporting that the Nuclear armed neighbors came close to all out war. There are reports that the Indian Air Force was placed on full alert and its planes at Halwar, Adampur, Jamnagar etc were ready for a strike on Pakistan. What is surprising that the actual “alert” to the Indian Air Force was sent out not on 26/11 (as the Indians want to call it) but a week before. This is very strange behaviour indeed.

If the Pakistani narrative is to be believed, the Mumbai terror was an inside job carried out by the Hindu extremists who wanted to put the pressure on Pakistan and hoped for a backlash agasint Muslims all across India. This backlash would have propelled the BJP and associated Hinduist parties in the coming General elections and placed Mr. Modi as the next Indian Prime Minister.

What message does it send to the Indian terrorists whose identities have so far been kept hidden from the world? 10 against 1200? A dozen people can bring the neighbors to war.

The extremistson both sides of the border got what they wanted–nuclear confrontation and an end to the peace negotiations that was mushrooming across the Radcliff Line. It is interesting to note the glee at which most Indians view the terror attacks in Pakistan. There was no public Indian condemnation of the attack on the Marriot Hotel in Islamabad. In a non-statistical sample, the comments on this and other sites show abject Indian jubilation each time there is a terror attack on Pakistan. Many Indians naively believe that if the Taliban control Pakistani territory it is to India’s benefit. What is horrific about the culture of hate is that many Indians are happy about a terror attack in Pakistan but expect a world of sympathy when attacked. What is absolutely amazing is that Indians feel that the end of Pakistan will somehow be good for India. There is total inability to see beyond their nose. Pakistan is a buffer for India and Indians against the so called extremist being spawned by the war in Afghanistan.  Without a buffer, the same extremists would be working their way past Panipat to Delhi.

It is pedagogical to investigate the beneficiaries of the end of peace. Certainly it was not the cricket players. However there is much discussion of the criminal element in this attack and the role of the Indian mafia and the Mumbai bookies who may have been losing money.

The beneficiaries of the end to peace are the extremists on both sides of the border. The losers are the doves. So what is to stop them from carrying out the next attack and the one after that. How much can they get away with? What is the tolerance level in New Delhi and Islamabad. Unless the root causes of terror are addressed, South Asia and the world will remain on edge.

Obama’s advisor Brude Riedel is right. Unless Kashmir is resolved there will not be any peace in Afghanistan. Unless Pakistan’s Eastern border is secured, there will be perpetual war in Afghanistan.

Many Pakistanis were shocked to see how much the Indians hate Paksitan and Pakistanis. The evidence is not in, but the Indian media was broadcasting hate messages. The indictments have not been made but the threats were being showered. The conviction has not happened but the the “biggest democracy” in the world was quick to assign blame and hide evidence.

The world was shocked to see the incompetence of the Indian armed forces–most specifically the total ineptitude of the elite Indian commandos. This does not bode well for the terrorists on all sides. If history is any indication, from Shivaji to the RAW terror in Karachi’ Bori Bazar to the bombing of the Marriot Hotel. Unless Kashmir, Sir Creek, Siachin, Kargil are resolved,  the terror will continue and some hot headed idiot will push the nuclear button.

Is Delhi preventing the 4th Battle of Panipat or instigating it? On the one hand Delhi lectures Pakistan on the dangers of meddling in Afghanistan and creating Frankenstein monsters; on the other hand it cannot resist aggravating the Afghans by supporting a puppet governemnt in Kabul. There are no moral compunctions in the corridors of Indian power and no voices of reason in Bharati halls full of representatives of the people that castigate the politicians in power for supporting puppets in Kabul. ( People hate Karzai support Taliban: Afghan Senator Ahmadzai ) If the Indian analysts are right then Pakistan has suffering because of its adventurism in Afghansitan. Those same analysts do not excoriate the policies on the same subject. Afghanistan: India packing its bags? Now or Never! .
