The Right tried to use Barack Obama’s middle name “Husein” as evidence that he was a hidden Muslim. The Rightist Radio Talk Shows derided Obama’s past in Indonesia. Many used his middle name as a slur. Much of the media.

The major question being asked by the news analysts is “will Barack Obama use his middle name to his advantage” or will be be scared of the Rush Limbaugh’s and others and hide it during the oath taking ceremony.

Most recent presidents have used their middle name during the oath taking ceremony always hedl in January of the year after the election year.

It was George Walker Bush, WIlliam Jefffersen Clinton, George Herbert Walker Bush etc. Two notable expections were Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan who did not use their middle name in the American preidential oath taking ceremony.

President-Elect Barack Obama failed to visit a mosque during his election campaign and has not appointed any Muslim to his cabinet, even though Muslim Americans were more loyal to him than Hispanics and African Americans. When will Obama appoint first Muslim to the cabinet & visit mosque?

As Andrea Elliott chronicled in an important article in The Times, Obama has visited churches and synagogues, but no mosque. He had to apologize after two Muslim women wearing head scarves were barred from appearing behind him at a recent rally in Detroit.

Obama should visit a mosque. He has repeatedly shown his courage during this campaign; Americans have responded to his intellectual honesty. One of the important things about him is the knowledge his Kenyan and Indonesian experiences have given him of Islam as lived, rather than Islam as turned into monstrous specter.

Obama’s mosque visit-Islam and Orientalist thought. Muslims have voted in record numbers for President Brack Obama and the Democratic party in tow elections. The Muslim electorate cannot be taken for granted. Unlike the African American vote bank, Muslims have voted for Republicans and Democratic tickets. In this election Muslims expect appointment to various positions. A Muslim cabinet minister is a sign of the times. 2008: Muslims more loyal to Democrats than Blacks or Hispanics

Fear-mongering about Islam is a global industry. It thrives on ignorance. Obama has a unique power to break the cycle, not least by emboldening moderate Muslims to denounce terror. What Obama should have said & Powell had the guts to say. Barack Obama during his campaign vociferously denied that he was a Muslim, but he failed to act as a role model to future American Muslim presidential candidates. He did not make an equal opportunity statement evangelizing the fact that the USA is the land of opportunity for all Americans. General Colin Powell criticized Barack Obama for not saying “there is nothing wrong with being a Muslim“.

NATURALLY, WHAT garnered the most attention on the day after former secretary of state Colin Powell’s endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama was its political significance. But we hope that another message that Mr. Powell tucked into his endorsement isn’t forgotten.

Like many people before him, Mr. Powell rebuked those who have spread or fed the rumor that Mr. Obama is Muslim, and like many before him Mr. Powell reiterated that the story is false — that Mr. Obama is and always has been a Christian.

Mr. Powell then took the issue an important step further. “But the really right answer,” Mr. Powell continued on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” “is, ‘What if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country?’ The answer is no, that’s not America. Is there something wrong with some 7-year-old Muslim American kid believing that he or she could be president?”

When a supporter at a rally told Sen. John McCain that his opponent couldn’t be trusted because he is an “Arab,” Mr. McCain responded, “No, ma’am, he’s a decent family man, a citizen, who I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues.” A good answer as far as it went, but incomplete; what was missing was, “And what if he were Arab American? Is there any reason an Arab American shouldn’t be president of this country?” Nor has it been easy for the Obama campaign to knock down the rumors without seeming to give credence to the idea that the rumors, if true, would be somehow disqualifying. What Colin Powell Also Said His comments on Muslims in America bear repeating — and repeating.

Barack Obama can break the cycle of fear. I’ll admit it: I’m thin-skinned about the kinds of slurs and innuendo about Muslims that have accompanied Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. We have written many stories on Barack Obama and his problem with Muslim Americans. Mr. Obama has visited a church and a synagogue and paid homage to AIPAC. He has visited Jersualem and only had a few minutes for the Palestininas. He skilled Pakistan on his world trip. Mr. Obama has still not visited a mosque. His spokesman has said nasty things about Pakistan. Bruce Riedel: Much of Pakistan’s problems originate in Afghanistan

~ Obama campaign apparatchiks ask young Muslim women not to stand in photo with Obama because of head scarves (Obama campaign later apologizes).~ Barack Obama gives AIPAC speech that manages to run to the right of President Bush and Israel Prime Minister Ohlmert in demanding that “Jerusalem must not be divided.” (Obama later recants after the fact)

~ Barack Obama not only terminates Middle East advisor Robert Malley from his team because of Malley’s views that Hamas should be engaged — but his spokesman, Bill Burton, states that not only is Rob Malley no longer advising Obama “but will never advise Obama.” That’s running the bus over someone and then backing it up to make sure that Malley doesn’t survive and has no chance in an Obama administration. I like to remind folks that Paul Volcker and Ted Sorensen signed the same letter Malley did but have thus far missed the campaign guillotine.

~ Barack Obama gives an inspirational speech to more than 200,000 Germans in Berlin calling for a “World Without Walls.” But Obama is silent in Israel when it is the wall dividing Israelis and Palestinians that is becoming an increasingly worse and impactful global ulcer.

~ Barack Obama spends 30 plus hours in Israel and 45 minutes in Ramallah during his recent trip and meets many Iraelis who have been pro-settilement expansion, solidly violating international law and US policy. Some on Obama’s advisory team turn a blind eye to Israel’s expanding settlements and continue to be associated with and meet with settlement zealots — but Obama keeps ALL of these people on his team.

~ Barack Obama accepts the resignation of a mainstream Arab-American lawyer from his advisory team because eight years ago, Mazen Asbahi served on a board “for a few weeks” that included a muslim fundamentalist imam from Illinois.
