| RUPEE NEWS | Moin Ansari | Aug 21, 08 | ???? ??????? | ????????? ????. Mr. Zardari eliminated all his competitors. First it was Benazir Bhutto, then it was President Musharraf. Now he is going head to head with Mr. Nawaz Sharif who is preparing for the next elections. The internal discussion of Pakistan has to be weighed against the external pressures. Curtain Call: Exit one Dictator:- Enter another .
The worst part of this Greek tragedy is that the obsequious Pakistani media stood by, unable and unwilling to challenge the machinations of Mr. Zardari. The mainstream media has finally discovered the real Mr. Zardari. The revulsion against Mr. Zardari has come out like never before. Perhpas the media was holding their noses while trying to get rid of Pervez Musharraf. Now that Mr. Zardari turned against their favorite Sharif, the media is now targeting Mr. Zardari with a vengence.
Rupee News wrote about the intentions of Mr. Zardari on November 27th, 2007. All the predictions made in the artices on the assassination of Benazir Butto have come true. Today the Pakistani media has finally figured out Mr. Zardari.

Is Zardari Crazy? Dementia, major depressive disorder & PTSD
It would be unwise to dismiss the recent revelations about the fragile state of Mr Asif Zardari’s mental health as ‘irrelevant’. While one may have valid issue with the timing of the report in a British newspaper, the questions that have been raised about the quality or otherwise of his mental health have a direct bearing on his fitness for the role of president, which if nothing else requires a balanced mind and an even hand. Neither can we dismiss the evidence as ‘irrelevant’ – it was presented in a London court by Mr Zardari’s own legal team to support a delay in the hearing of a corruption case that was being brought against him by the then Pakistani government. The doctors cited severe depression, dementia (an extremely severe condition that often requires in-patient treatment) and post-traumatic stress disorder – and this was before whatever feelings of grief he may have been beset by after the death of his wife – as being reasons to delay the hearing. Mental ill-health may affect all of us, and we should not be surprised if 11 years of prison – during which he says he was tortured – and the sudden death of his wife, have had a negative effect on his mental equilibrium; indeed it would be surprising if it had not, and indicative of a man devoid of feeling and emotion. The News: Thursday, August 28, 2008
The Dictator is gone! Long live the new dictator.
Zardari of the 90s was one of the most detested people in Pakistan, allegations and cases followed him like a homing beacon plume. But after his wife’s tragic assassination, his deft moves not only helped win the PPP the election but saw his standing reversed. A lot of people, including myself, believed that his long hard stint in jail had transformed the man.In fact this reminds me of a set of dialogue that is apt for Zardari in Shakespeare’s Henry IV where one of the lead characters Prince Hal led a life unfit to be a King, but when Prince Hal contemplates changing he says, “herein will I imitate the sun” (I.ii.197), emerging from behind the “contagious clouds” (I.ii.198) and “I’ll so offend, to make offense a skill, Redeeming time when men think least I will” (I.ii.216-217).Harvard Law and Yale Law School. It’s said that Harvard teaches you what the law is, while Yale teaches what the law should be. It’s a perfect example of why what’s legal may not be what’s right. Asif Ali Zardari can be a legally elected president with the support of the legislature but the consequences of this will be beyond the good intentions of the laws framed. Pervez Musharraf gifted the PPP the NRO, the blackest of black laws in Pakistan’s history, enabling Ms Benazir to come back into the political mainstream; guess who was the chief beneficiary? Turning his back on the former president only added to Zardari’s reputation for being ruthless in getting what he wants and callous once his purpose is achieved. Eric Hoffer said, “Charlatanism of some degree is indispensable to effective leadership”. The question is, to what degree is Zardari prepared to go? John P Grier said, “The biggest gap in the world is the gap between the justice of a cause and the motives of the people pushing it”. As Supreme Commander, the Pakistan Army, the ISI, and access to nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them, will all be under his command. There are also questions about his close relationship with Afghan born US envoy to the UN Zalmay Khalilzad who is a known rabid Pakistan hater, with particular anger at the ISI that did not give him any time during the 80s Afghan war. To overcome their qualms Zardari will retire in favour of his sister and covering candidate, Faryal Talpur and not risk their measuring him with Asghar Khan’s desired qualities in a leader, which summed up the values of the Quaid, “Honesty and Character”. One would have to be deaf not to hear the large murmur in the ranks. The News Thursday, August 28, 2008

The militants feel righteous in their rampage as long as they name their horde the battalion of God. Mr Zardari feels that if he slaps the venerated name of Benazir Bhutto on inane projects, he is adequately dispensing the political responsibility thrust upon him. Having voted into office what it thought was a political party but turned out to be a political orphanage, the nation is flailing its arms for a saviour. Its future is threatened by a host of inconsequential projects named after Benazir Bhutto and NATO’s unrelenting warnings of a military strike. The fact that the only self-proclaimed defenders poised to take on the west are the bristly beards only adds to the nation’s sense of endangerment. The News Thursday, August 28, 2008
by Zeenia SattiAfter ISI US targets Kiyani- banks on new gofer-Asif Zardari to do bidding
Barring Nawaz Sharif, the entire entourage of current dignitaries publically behaves like Frank Baum’s Cowardly Lion prior to meeting the Wizard of Oz. in the emotional aftermath of a NATO strike on Pakistan that killed 11 soldiers, Chaudhy Ahmad Mukhtar, the minister for defence (no less), bewailed that cooperation with the war on terror was the government’s “majboori” (meaning the government was helpless in the face of the assault).
Prior to this, Pakistan’s political godfather Asif Zardari declared that he would journey to the great land of liberty to seek from the great libertarian George W Bush, Musharraf’s removal from Pakistan’s presidency. Zardari invited Nawaz Sharif along on the voyage and publicly regretted when the latter declined the offer. In the end, Bush stepped in to save everyone the embarrassment and decided to receive only the de jure prime minister. During his parleys with the US intelligentsia, Prime Minister Gilani was given an opportunity to state Pakistan’s case when he was asked to comment on what the US could do to make the war on terror more effective. The so-called voice of 160 million Pakistanis responded by saying: “The US can do whatever it wants”. Thursday, August 28, 2008 by Zeenia Satti
The Sharif Zardari divorce farce: Still in bed in the Punjab
Much like the megalomaniac Emperor Nero, who fiddled while Rome burned, Pakistan’s political leaders have over the past few months locked themselves in convoluted charades involving endless dialogue and deals, even as the country, is, quite literally, torn apart.
As Asif Ali Zardari prepares to move into the Presidency and blithely insists political deals need not be honoured, the coalition has fallen apart. The News Thursday, August 28, 2008
by Kamila Hyat<US wants to shut down ISI. Compliant Zardari is doing it!
History has any number of examples of great figures whose grip on reality was tenuous to say the least, from Emperor Caligula of Rome who was a homicidal psychopath to King George III of England who suffered from the inherited condition of porphyria; and Adolf Hitler who was deeply paranoid and suffered from a schizoaffective disorder. This is not to suggest that Mr Zardari suffers any of these gross manifestations of mental ill-health, and he is said to have made a full recovery from the symptoms that were successfully presented as being of such severity as to prevent a case against him from proceeding. Nonetheless, assuming that he is successful in his bid for the presidency his documented and undeniable period of mental ill-health is yet another layer in the ‘onion of concern’ that surrounds him.
