Japan investors express interest in Pakistan power sector

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf Wednesday said the new political government would remove all bottlenecks to facilitate foreign investment in power sector as great opportunities exist in this vital area.

He was talking to Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Seiji Kojima,who called on him here and discussed bilateral ties between the two countries and investment opportunities in power sector in Pakistan.

Pakistan is facing great challenges today especially in power sector as the shortage of energy has badly affected its economy, he said and added foreign investment in the coal and hydel power generation would help meet country’s future requirements.
Ambassador Kojima assured full support of government of Japan in the fulfillment of its development agenda particularly in power sector.

He expressed the hope that Japanese companies would take opportunity to participate in these projects to make investment particularly for Diamir Bhasha Dam.
The delegation showed keen interest in investment in water and power sector in Pakistan and assured technical and financial assistance in this regard to meet the future electricity demand and water requirements for irrigation.
Ministry of Water and Power and Representative of PPIB gave a detailed presentation to the delegation about the on-going power projects and briefed the delegation about the investor friendly policy of the government.
