Bangalore seems to have been chosen for the latest terror strike in the country for three main reasons. First, the city is a household name and a successful attack here is guaranteed to generate wide publicity. Second, never having seen a major terrorist attack before, it was an easy target with security relatively lax. Third, the environment was not altogether hostile or unfamiliar: key members of groups espousing militant Islam have been arrested in this city, and are known to have built some rudimentary network within it.
the city has around 1,500 infotech firms, employing over 4 lakh people, and accounts for a third of India’s $41 billion software exports. Nor is its importance confined to just IT; it is also the hub of India’s aerospace, electronics and biotechnology industries. The attack on Bangalore using low-intensity bombs is guaranteed to heighten the sense of insecurity and terror across the country, while causing relatively little actual damage. Hindustan Times
The latest terror strike in Bangalore carries an insidious message for the Manmohan Singh government.
The perpetrators have signalled their ability to strike at will and even calibrate violence in a manner that could see UPA pay a heavy political cost in an election year.In the absence of any significant breakthroughs, the government is on the backfoot while inter-community relations remain edgy. The erosion of trust between communities is a natural consequence of such blasts and gives rise to a worrying polarisation.
The government has floundered in the face of previous strikes with most of the cases ranging from Malegaon, Varanasi, UP, Hyderabad bombings and the Jaipur serial attack still marked as “unsolved”.
The spread of attacks to south India has quickened in the past few years with discovery of training camps in Karnataka and threats to target the IT industry.
What would worry the government is that Friday’s blasts had a chilling subtext that things could have been much worse if the explosive was more powerful and kept in crowded places. The ease with which the bombs were detonated has deepened a sense of insecurity in Bangalore and would have a resonance in other cities as well.
For terror groups, both foreign-based and homegrown, seen as the likely culprits, fear is the key in sharpening social tensions. Times of India
Bangalore Police Commissioner Shanker Bidri, while talking to Times Now, confirmed that the explosions appear to be act of the people who wanted to terrorise the capital of Karnataka. He also said that all these bombs were of low-intensity and were triggered by timers.
Soon after the serial explosions, the police ordered closure of all schools, colleges, cinema halls and commercial complexes.

The impact of these blasts go beyond Madras. Foreign firms who were always jittery about India may be really scared and some may pull out. The Naxalites emboldened by the Maoist win in Nepal may now openly attack the government. With Madras in turmoil now, the Norhteast in open rebellion, Kashmir is in armed insurrection and the large swathe of land from Nepal to Andhara Pradesh in open mutiny. These bombs may be just the begining of the end of the conglomeration of more than 570 states. http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/Traders-fear-Gulmarg-blast-will-further-affect-tourism-revival/339591/
