Two former commanders of the Army and Air Force last week came down hard on India over comments made by the Indian National Security Adviser that Sri Lanka should not seek weapons from Pakistan or China.
Former Army Chief Hamilton Wanasinghe said India should not tell Sri Lanka from where it should purchase military hardware or not. It is Sri Lanka’s choice, so the request is ‘unfair‘,” General Wanasinghe who commanded the Army from 1988 to 1991 told the Daily Mirror.
Praising Pakistan and China for their continued support to Sri Lanka, the former Army Chief also said we had to depend on Pakistan and China at critical points of time in the past. “We can’t antagonize those two countries, as they were there when we needed them.” Accusing neighbouring India of creating Sri Lanka’s conflict, the former Army Commander said India was partly responsible for creating the problem for us. “The LTTE was created by India. That’s the truth.”
Meanwhile, former Air Force Chief Air Vice Marshal Harry Gunatilake said Sri Lanka had the freedom to go to any country to purchase weapons. http://nation.ittefaq.com /artman/publish/article_36720 .shtml
Pakistan Sri Lanka growing military alliance
| NEW YORK | RUPEE NEWS | July 27th, 2008 | Moin Ansari | Indian sponsored Tamil terror in Sri Lanka continues unabated. In one of the biggest defeats of Indian foreign policy since it was thrown out of Sri Lanka, the Indian Intelligence services that supported the Indian based Tamil Tigers face imminent annihilation. President Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka has reasons to be optimistic. The international rules of the game have changed. India in the 80s wanted to impose a Cypriot like bifurcation of Sri Lanka an Indian beached for the Tamils which would allow India influence to extend to Colombo. Nothing less than total capitulation to New Delhi was acceptable. In 2008 China is building a port in Sri Lanka. Pakistan is supply arms to the legal government of Sri Lanka that happens to be Sinhalese. These arms have had a tremendous impact on the Sri Lankan civil war, and Pakistanis will stand on the podium along with the Sri Lankan brothers and sisters to celebrate the victory of the unification of the island and defeat of Indian imperialism. India admits to supporting LTTE terrorists in Sri Lanka! Pakistan to continue to help Lanka crush the Tamil Tigers
RAW facts on South Asia- India fails to occupy countries. BACKGROUND: Sri Lanka: RAW facts. LTTE was created by India
BACKGROUND: Anatomy of Indian Intelligence Services and Alliances. What is really happening in Sri Lanka today is that a blood thirsty racist group led by some misled Tamils called LTTE is terrorizing against the Government of Sri Lanka and its people irrespective of their ethnicity with an intention of carving out a separate state. Lanka: Indian LTTE terrorists use youth as cannon fodder. There is no conflict as such between Sinhalese and Tamil communities in Sri Lanka. In fact, the majority of the Tamil community lives in peace and harmony among the Sinhalese population through out the country apart from the Northern part of Sri Lanka. Lanka Letter: RAW THE RASCAL by Prem Raj in Columbo.
The entire Sinhalese and the Muslims population who lived in the Northern area for centuries were either killed or chased away completely by the LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorists. At the moment, not a single Sinhalese or Muslim is living in Jaffna, but, many thousands of Tamils are living in Colombo in peace with the other communities. Based on 2001 census, the Tamil population in Colombo district is 12.1%. Pakistan Sri Lanka growing military alliance
Growing Pakistan Sri Lanka ties. The Pakistani Foreign Minister said that his country was playing an active role in the international campaign against terrorism as a frontline state and the country has been a victim of terrorism for decades and their counter terrorism efforts predated the events of 9/11.
“Our commitment to fight terrorism has been unswerving not withstanding the threats terrorism poses today and the terrorist attacks Pakistan has had to face due to principled position,” he said addressing the audience. The Pakistani Foreign Minister said that from last year the country had suffered thousands of casualties in various terrorist incidents across Pakistani. In the armed confrontation with the militants more than a thousand of Pakistani soldiers had sacrificed their lives, the Foreign Minister said.
He said Pakistan’s message to terrorists was clear and unequivocal. He said his government would not allow their territory to be used by terrorists and they would not be daunted by the threats of terrorism. He said in no uncertain terms that they would not allow foreign troops to operate inside its territory too. He said military action within their territory was the sole prerogative of the Pakistani armed forces
Northern liberation looming – President Rohan MATHES in Anuradhapura
ANURADHAPURA: President Mahinda Rajapaksa asserted on Saturday that the day on which the oppressed masses of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu, could enjoy the same freedom and the liberty enjoyed by the Eastern polity was not too far away.
“While eradicating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, we will simultaneously develop the entire country,” President Rajapaksa told a public rally in Anuradhapura.
Rejecting and denouncing the ‘ceasefire’ proclaimed unilaterally by the LTTE recently to mark the SAARC summit in Colombo, President Rajapaksa categorically stated that the Government was only engaged in ‘humanitarian operations’ to provide ‘humanitarian assistance’ to the down-trodden and oppressed masses in the North, as opposed to war.
The President urged Armed Forces personnel still on vacation, to report to their respective duties at their very earliest as their valuable and dedicated services were vitally and urgently required for their Motherland at this crucial juncture.
President Rajapaksamade this call when he addressed a mammoth rally in Anuradhapura, the first in a series of rallies, in support of the UPFA candidates contesting the Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provincial Council (PC) elections on August 23.
He asserted that at a time the Armed Forces were marching victoriously in their battle against terrorism and the LTTE breathing their last, it was destined to confront a definite ‘Waterloo’ very soon.
He said if they evaded and failed to report for their duties, they may be Court Martialled.
President Rajapaksa lauded the great zeal and enthusiasm displayed by the disabled ‘war heroes’ in the Anuradhapura hospital, whom he had visited them that day.
“These ‘war heroes’ who were badly disabled were too willing to get back to the battlefront again, if they were discharged from the hospital. They were determined to fight the terrorists, tooth and nail, and capture Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu,” he said.
Roads, schools and other mega development projects such as the Norochcholai, Kothmale and Kerawalapitiya power projects and the Moragahakanda irrigation project among others, would be taken forward expeditiously. The spree of victories achieved by the Government would be further augmented by a definite and a landslide victory at the forthcoming PC elections of Sabaragamuwa and North Central on August 23.
“This would undoubtedly consolidate our Government, the Armed Forces and the people,” he added.
The President noted that the farmer obtained a reasonable and high price for his paddy, and thereby given his due place. Nevertheless, he pointed out that when the farmer is benefited in this manner, obviously the consumer would experience a problem.
“So, there should be a ‘balancing act’, where both the farmer and the consumer is protected. We will ensure that both parties’ interests are taken into consideration”, he added.
Refuting claims as reported in certain quarters of the media, that the President would also resort to a referendum, the President categorically ruled it out.
“I will never ever resort to ‘Kalageddi Sellama’ practice. I will hold the PC elections, followed by the Parliamentary elections. I will win that too. Everything is in the hands of the people whom we represent,” he said.
He added that the masses of ‘Rajarata’ had immense faith and trusted the UPFA government, and beyond any possible doubt, they would elect Berty Premalal Dissanayake as the Chief Minister of the North Central P.C.
Ministers Maithripala Sirisena, Dew Gunasekera, Susil Premajayanth, D.M. Jayarathna, Mervyn Silva, Najib A, Majid and R.M. Podiappuhamy, Somaweera Chandrasiri, W. P. Ekanayake, ex UNP stalwart Asoka Wadigamagawa, JVP Parliamentarian Lal Kantha’s former Private Secretary Shean Padmakumara also addressed the rally.
