The FTA with Bangladesh is just the tip of the iceberg. Both countries have a great future and are working together in many fields. This will continue no matter which government is in power in Bangladesh.

Bangladeshi parties wanted a confederation with Pakistan.
ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf has said Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Bangladesh and our ties are firmly anchored in commonalities.
He expressed these views while talking to Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Chaudhry, Adviser for Foreign Affairs to the Caretaker Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh who called on the President in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
The President stated that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Bangladesh. Our ties are firmly anchored in commonalities. Both countries have a common religion, common history and a common out look on regional and global issues and cooperate at international fora.
Talking note of bilateral cooperation, the President stressed the need to further enhance this cooperation in mutually beneficial fields. It was felt that an early conclusion of Early Harvest Programme (EHP) culminating in a Free Trade Agreement will give a great boost to commercial and economic ties. The President also emphasized the need for more people to people contacts. The President also urged the need for coordination between the two countries on the issues of food and energy security.
The Adviser conveyed to the President the greetings of the President and the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh and congratulated him on smooth democratic transition and leading the country to the path of reconciliation and development. The Adviser also lauded President’s initiative of “enlightened moderation”. He briefed the President on the measures that the caretaker government in Bangladesh is undertaking for the betterment of the people of Bangladesh. He also explained that numerous electoral reforms have been initiated to ensure fair and credible elections. The President expressed good wishes for the welfare and progress of the people of Bangladesh.
The Adviser for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh is on a goodwill visit to Pakistan. During his stay, the Adviser called on the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister, Commerce Minister and the Information Minister.
