“When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An’ go to your Gawd like a soldier.”
Rudyard Kipling
On Wednesday night, the United States fired its fourth Predator missile strike since January. With short term tunnel vision the US commanders on the ground in Afghanistan listen to the Mayor of Kabul and bomb Pakistani villages. They perceive the threat from across the border and they think that the threat will be eliminated by bombing FATA. Most of the drone attacks have bombed innocent civilians. These bombs create problems for Pakistan. This bombing creates disgruntled youth you cause havoc in revenge attacks. Preventing sabotage of the peace deals. No entry to drones into Pakistani territory”. Pakistan has condemned the attack on its sovreignity and will take care of the vicitms.
“Pakistan will take care of its own problems, you take care of Afghanistan on your side,” said Owari Ghani, the governor of North-West Frontier Province, who is also President Pervez Musharraf’s representative in charge of the neighboring tribal areas.
Mr. Ghani, a key architect of the pending peace accord, believes along with many other Pakistani leaders that the United States is floundering in the war in Afghanistan. Pakistan, he said, should not be saddled with America’s mistakes, especially if a solution involved breaching Pakistan’s sovereignty, a delicate matter in a nation where sentiment against the Bush administration runs high.
“Pakistan is a sovereign state,” he said. “NATO is in Afghanistan; it’s time they did some soldiering.” NY TIMES
In 2006 there were 3 predator attacks. The blowback from Dargai led to the death of 80 in Bahour 80 and another attack that killed 13. Failure and defeat in Afghanistan. Payback for Pakistan. Unable to win the guerrilla warfare, and unable to defeat the hardy Pashtuns, the frustration level grows in the army ranks, they raise the decibel level in blaming Pakistan. Unable to produce results they bomb the innocent in Pakistani villages. The cycle of violence perpetuates the guerrilla warfare and pushes the extremists into Pakistan cities.

Taliban want the Pakistani government to condemn the attack and sympathise with the dead.
“This attack by the US is aimed at sabotaging the Taliban-government talks,” “We will foil the US bid” Taliban spokesman Maulvi Umar told reporters.

‘Bajaur strike aimed at Peace talks disrupting talks’

KHAR: The Taliban on Thursday buried at least eight people killed by a missile strike allegedly launched from a United States drone in Bajaur district on Wednesday night, fuelling outrage among Taliban and locals and eliciting calls for revenge.
One Taliban spokesman vowed to “foil any external plot” to sabotage their talks with the government.
“This attack by the US is aimed at sabotaging the Taliban-government talks,” Taliban spokesman Maulvi Umar told reporters. “We will foil the US bid,” he vowed.
On Wednesday night two ‘guided missiles’ struck a house in the Mamoond area, 30 km west of Khar, regional headquarters of Bajaur.
Residents reported seeing a US aircraft flying in the area before the explosions, AP said.
Reuters cited residents saying the house, which belonged to an ethnic Pashtun tribesman, was completely destroyed, as was an adjoining mosque.
There were varying reports on the death toll, ranging from 8 to 18. Umar told Daily Times there were no foreigners among the dead. Agencies cited security officials as contradicting this.
Outrage: Wednesday’s strike elicited outrage among locals. “The US needs to be taught a good lesson,” 22-year-old Mir Wali told Daily Times. “If we get a nod from the government, the tribal people will make the American soldiers’ life miserable in Afghanistan.” “There should be an end to such strikes which kill only innocent tribesmen,” said 65-year-old Rasool Khan. “Killing innocent people will not serve the US interests. It will only make the US enemies and not friends.”
Shouting ‘death to America’ and waving Klashnikovs, mourners vowed they would avenge attacks from the US forces across the border, AFP reported. Thousands later gathered in Khar to demonstrate against the strike, AFP said.
Revenge: Faqir Muhammad, deputy leader of Pakistan’s Taliban movement, vowed revenge, AP reported. “This is jihad for us,” said Muhammad. “America martyred our people and the blood of our brothers will not go to waste,” he said. “God willing, we will avenge it by targeting America.” Neither Pakistan nor the US claimed responsibility for the attack.
AP said Pakistan’s military spokesman declined comment, and the US Embassy in Islamabad deferred comments to officials in Washington, who could not be reached. The Foreign Ministry said authorities were investigating the incident, AFP reported.
Strong condemnation: Asked about the attack apparently carried out by the US, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said: “I strongly condemn this. It’s absolutely wrong. It’s unfair. They should not have done this action.”
“Several innocent people have been killed. We condemn it,” Gilani said, in an interview with ARY TV, to be broadcast on Thursday, Reuters reported. hasbanullah khan/agencies
