We publish hundreds of articles on music, entertainment, politics, and yes, we sometimes touch upon sex also. The highest rated articles are about sex. Islamabad, Banglore, Indonesia, and other capitals turn to our website like bees on honey– when there is the slightest smell of salaciousness. For example, our article on the Sex antics of Mr. Mohandas Gandhi was meant to be an expose of the leader. It remains the highest hitter on our site. It’s sister article discussing the political failures is a distant also ran story on our site.
A recent Google article informed us that “sex” was the number one search hit in Banglore and Islamabad. Riyadh too.
The internet offers the greatest library in the world. Google actually has a project o get the six largest libraries online. Already thousands of books have been meticulously scanned page by page and are available at the click of a button.
When we were growing up in Pakistan, we were allowed only 3 books which we checked out from the British COuncil or the American Center. There were no libraries in Pindi, Islamabad. Today the libraries and information is available at the click of a mouse. One can get online degrees and attend Harvard classes (without credit).
What are we getting from the internet is also as important as what we are adding to it. Wikipedia has hundreds of Islamphobes and Anti-Pakistan elements writing for it. Major articles are published which undermine the integrity of the country. Pakistanis are very good in the forums “fighting” for the Two nation Theory and Pakistan’s history. Pakistanis are not as vocal in berating and excoriating the editors and internet warriors as we can be. We have launched a campaign to correct Pakistani maps. We mailed 200 faxes to Pakistani newspapers, Geo, ARY, and PEMRA. Some corrected maps have started appearing, but we did not get a proper response from the Pakistan Blogesphere and Forums.
A headline with Kashmala nude will get us 3000 hits. Correcting Pakistani maps gets are 83 hits only. This site is embarressed that all the top stories on the site are about Kashmala Tariq, even though it is only one article out of thousands. The readers have even minded and tracked the pictures.
A site called dandelion wanted to write about Somalia, but no one read it. So he titled it “Britney Spears bears all”. Sure enough a lot of people clicked on his site–all frustrated to see the article on Somalia.
We have a choice. We can delete the article on Kashmala Tariq, or hope that the visitors will also learn something. The editor subscribes to this policy. Decades ago, when the author was a young teenager Time Magazine once showed the royal panties from a distance (nothing like what is shown now on the sites. Needless to say, we have been an ardent reader of Time ever since–and now its been almost half a century!
..and so it goes
