“According to a French intelligence service report, up to 20 such groups are active, mainly in Alsace, the greater Paris region and southern France. Between them they have up to 3,500 members, and were responsible for 65 violent attacks in 2004, compared with 27 the previous year.”  The Guardian

Graves with SwastikasIt used to be that the Neo-Nazis would desecrate Jewish graves.  Now France has moved ahead and the other Semites, the Muslims who faught to defend Franch are paying the price. Being French is not good enough. Giving ones life for France is neither appreciated nor does it guarantee a restful place for the bones of Muslims. One would have thought that with a Jewish president in Paris, French Islamphobia would have gone down. The exact opposite has happened.

Muslim graves desecrated in French cemetery

* Vandals target 148 graves, hurl insults at French justice minister
* Sarkozy slams attack as ‘hateful act’

LILLE: Vandals desecrated 148 graves in the Muslim section of a military cemetery in northern France, hanging a pig’s head on one of the headstones, according to police sources on Sunday.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy called the attack “a hateful act” and expressed “profound outrage” at the “sordid” attack on the Muslim quarter of the Notre Dame de Lorette cemetery near the northern town of Arras on Saturday night. He vowed those responsible would be punished.

The attack came almost exactly a year after a similar incident in which neo-Nazi vandals scrawled swastikas on 52 of the cemetery’s Muslim graves. “This is the most inadmissible kind of racism and the president of the republic shares the pain of France’s entire Muslim community,” said a statement issued by the presidency after the latest attack. “This hateful act is also a attack on the memory of all veterans of World War I, beyond the faith of each one,” it said. France’s political class united in denouncing the vandalism. Prime Minister Francois Fillon called it a “revolting act” and said those responsible would be found.

Notre Dame de Lorette cemetery is France’s biggest military necropolis and commemorates tens of thousands of victims of a series of long and bloody battles for control of northern France at the start of World War I. Around 100 police officers were sent to the Notre-Dame de Lorette cemetery near Arras to hunt for clues. State prosecutor Jean-Pierre Valensi said the vandals struck overnight, daubing insults on the graves.

Valensi said, “The slogans directly target Islam and they gravely insult Rachida Dati, the justice minister,” who is the daughter of north African immigrants.

Police arrested two men over the 2007 attack and sentenced them each to a year in prison.

Notre-Dame de Lorette is one of France’s biggest World War One military cemeteries and was built on the site of a battlefield where many French and German soldiers died between October 1914 and October 1915. During World War One, France mobilised around 600,000 colonial subjects, including many Muslims from Algeria and Tunisia, of whom 78,000 were killed. Around 1.2 million French soldiers were killed in all during the war.

“This is horrific, and for the 90th anniversary of the end of the 1914-1918 war. This is worse than the last time,” said Jean-Paul Doue, an honorary guard at the cemetery. France is home to around 5 million Muslims, Europe’s largest Muslim community, making up 8 percent of France’s population. The MRAP anti-racism group said this latest desecration showed that ‘Islamophobia’ was taking root in France. agencies
