Recently two movies came out of Bollywood to the screens in Pakistan and the world.
Recently Joda Akbar was released. It is really we well made movie. The dances, the costumes, the language and the sets were fantastic. Though historically inaccurate, it does send a very positive message of interfaith harmony. It showed the wonderful wealth of the Mughals and the battle scenes were really well done. The move was tastefully done and almost had no bad points.
The Pakistani film industry has lost the pornographic race with Bollywood. Lahore and Lollywood was unable to compete with hip gyrations of Indian dancers and chose not to produce sot porn. Lollywood could not produce art movies, and that led to the demise of the film industry in Pakistan.
The death of the film industry in Pakistan may not be a bad thing. Pakistan also lost the race in hard porn to Sweden and Norway. That is not a bad thing either.
We saw “Race” today released in our town. The teenage kids were busy with a project and could not go. That was a blessing with disguise, because we would have been really embarrassed with the kids. The move has some explicit sex scenes, and the dances verge on pornography. The movie was a copy of the old Italian movies from four decades ago. The songs were pretty nasty. One of the songs used the name of “Allah” on very nasty gyrations on half naked, scantly clad women.
What is astonishing that the movie was released in Pakistan and has been a hit. If the “best ever relations” with India continue, there will be a lot more of this soft porn coming from across the border.
In the West children are shielded from this sort of nudity with a stringently enforced rating system. In Pakistan ARY interviewed the audience which had children in the audience.
If releasing Race was an accomplishment of ARY or Geo, then PEMRA and the Pakistani censor board should take notice.
