This article on provincial nomenclature and monikers has a deep and profound impact on South Asia. When the British arrived on the shores of Calcutta there were more than 570 states in the Subcontinent. When the British left on 15th August 1947 there were as many states, though many were absorbed as provinces in the Indian Union and into Pakistan. Canada created a new province of Nantukaland. India has changed the names of some its provinces. It also has created many new provinces.

United Pronvices= Uttar Pardesh

Middle Provinces=Madhya Provinces and many others.

India took Hydrabad, broke it into different pieces, and named them into new states like Andhra Pradesh. The Indian Punjab was broken up into Hindu Harayna, and Sikh Punjab.

Chaudhry Rehmat Ali came up with the moniker P A K I S T A N

P=Punjab

A= Afghania

K=Kashmir

I=Islam

S=Sind

TAN= Baluchistan

Pakistan should be able to change the names of NWFP and FATA and Northern Areas.

FATA= Fatah, “Fatah e Islam“, Fatah e Pakistan,

Northern Areas (NA)=Nayeh Alaqajat (NA),

Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP)=Naya Watan Frontier Province (NWFP). Other names suggested are Pakhtoonwali, Pakhtoonkhwa, Pakshtunistan, Sarhad, Khyber, Afghania, Attock, and Neelab.

There is also a suggestion of create 16 provinces. One of our esteemed readers has the folowing to say.

Divide 4 into 16 provinces.

To stabilize and develop Pakistan government should consider creating smaller provinces. The four provinces, FATA, and northern area will be divided into 15-16 smaller provinces. In reality this will make the federation more balanced and address the grievances of smaller provinces against Punjab. It will also elimination the dominance of MQM in Karachi and dominance of [Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) and PPP in Interior Sindh.

It is vital for Pakistan to have more smaller provinces, which can be governed by the local government, this will not only stabilize the country but also help develop faster. Each province will get it share of representation in federal government.

    It will resolve majority of the problems. There are so many questions were left unanswered for 50 years, FATA, Northern Area, undeveloped Baluchistan. Create more provinces, distribute the resources to all the provinces not just one. Remove landlord (zamidar,wadara,choudary) system.
    Re-organize the political system, 4 main party system, parties should be based on non-ethnic base but can be religious but no sipa-e-Sahabe kind of party. For example:
    Pakistan Social Democratic Party
    National peoples Party
    Republican unity party
    Awami National Party

    Why” chaudhry rahmat ali” omitted the majority province of bengal from that “name” pakistan, according to your theory.(pahoonchi wahan pey khak jahan ka khameer tha) He died in his mother land where he was created to be( what he was) and what he stood for. Please have some research about, sir “sultan mohammad” the agha khan,who was getting ” gun salute” from British government, even though not head of a state.( according to protocols head of state gets the gun salute)
