The self proclaimed champion of democracy and the ardent soldier for an independent judiciary, the twice rejected PML (N) Prime Minister loses it during a press conference right before of elections. This is the same Nawaz Sharif that sent hooligans to raid the Supreme Court of Pakistan. This is the same Nawaz Sharif you rained terror in Karachi. This is the same Nawaz Sharif that incarcerated Najam Sethi. This is the same Nawaz Sharif who imported $1 Billion of worthless cabs to Pakistan. For this amount a new factory could have been setup.
Nawaz Sharif goes bonkers again!
ISLAMABAD: The Business Plus management on Friday alleged that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif’s media manager Pervaiz Rasheed seized tapes and intimidated their staff after Nawaz lost his temper in an interview.
“We were held hostage after the interview when Pervaiz Rasheed, realised that Nawaz had used unbecoming language against President Pervez Musharraf, the Chaudhry brothers and Mushahid Hussain while answering one of my questions,” said Rana Mubashir, the Business Plus Director News, at a press conference here. Mubashir said that all through the interview at Nawaz’s Raiwind house, Nawaz used harsh language and lost his temper over routine questions. “Pervaiz Rasheed put his hand on my shoulder and said, ‘Ok pack up; this interview can’t be aired because you people have put tough questions and Nawaz has spoken harshly in answering your questions,”
Mubashir quoted Rasheed as saying. Mubashir said the first question that annoyed Nawaz pertained to a deal he did when signing the exile document for 10 years. “Nawaz got angry when I asked him why he first denied the existence of any exile deal with the government before his homecoming and later admitted that it was for only five years?”
Mubashir said the second question was about the allegation of pursuing confrontation politics, which he answered in bad taste. The third question pertained to his strategic road map for steering the country out of the turbulent situation.
The PML-N leader’s reply was that President Musharraf’s resignation was the only solution to set the house in order. When Mubashir pressed him to delineate his road map, Nawaz didn’t come up with any answer to the point. “When I asked why the Chaudhry brothers and Mushahid Hussain had left him after 11 years, Nawaz blew his top and asked his media manager to seize the tapes and not let us go until we surrendered the tapes,”
Mubashir told the reporters. Mubashir said they were left with no option but to surrender the tapes and ask whether they might conduct a fresh interview with mild questions as required. But Nawaz did not accept his request to hand him back the tapes.
“My team and I were like hostages and I condemn it,” Mubashir said, adding that they had reported the incident to Raiwind police for registration of a case but they didn’t know whether their request would be accepted. Business Plus Bureau Chief Saba Jamal, Rana Mubashir and Jasmeen Manzoor have appealed to the government to take notice of the incident and ensure the press freedom.
The channel management also reminded the media that Nawaz had also tried to repress the media during his tenure as prime minister. They also thanked local journalists and Rawalpindi-Islamabad Rawalpindi Press Club President Mushtaq Minhas for condemning the incident. atif khan. Nawaz loses cool with Business Plus team. Thanks to fellow WordPress blogger Nabiha Meher for bringing it to our attention.
The off again, on again, off again, on again boycott is no longer being considered. Mr. Shahbaz Sharif called it “Jhurloo elections”, and then the PML(N) is contesting these same “jhurloo” elections.

Resurrecting the Pakistan-Afghanistan Confederation

Name is Ahmad Hassan.
The wonderful thing in democracy is that it has no race and it filters out all sort of fanaticism. Sooner or later Nawaz Saharif either in government or opposition will be a part of Pakistan’s supreme institution (parliament).
One thing you cannot temper with is reality and reality is that Punjab is the largest province of Pakistan. PML (N) is the majority party in the province and it has roots where ever the concept of state of Pakistan is.
Scums like Zardari or his boot polishers like Rehman Malik or Farroq Naiek will eventually parish. They never had any stakes in Pakistan, that’s why they have been repatriating a lot of green ($).
People’s party fell from grace the day Zardari became its co-chairperson. Transplants never work in politics. They eventually fizz out. PML (N) and Nawaz Sahrif are political realities. They cannot be eliminated, although muggers (Zardari and company) are eventually apprehended. That’s how the story ends.
Now you can spend your days and nights in defending Zardari or defaming Nawaz Sharif, it doesn’t make one iota’s difference. End of the day thieves and muggers (Mr. Z 10% or even 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%) are criminals, and criminals have one place to live that is jail.
P.S. Nawaz Sahrig did not needed and NRO to come to Pakistan.
Mr. Hassan:
Thank you for your feedback and valuable comments. We appreciate the sentiments expressed.
I agree with you 100% on Mr. Zardari. We have no love lost for Mr. Zardari. Nor do we care for him or his antics. There is a plethora of material on this site criticizing Mr. Zardari and “his” PPPPP. Leadership is a mandate—using a forged piece of paper does not make one a leader. My questions are–knowing all this how could Mr. Sharif be so naive to think that the “scumbag” would live up to his word? Knowing all this how could he let himself be used and abused?
Mr. Sharif has made many blunders. The inability to choose friends wisely is one of them. Extreme emotionalism is another. May God Bless his soul, but “Abbajee” was the brains of the Sharif family. Mr. Sharif’s Achilles heel is his “Abbajee’s kitchen cabinet” philosophy which bypasses parliament and even his own cabinet. He seldom discusses issues in parliament or even in his own party–beyond his buddies. It seems that he totally unaware of the external factors. He has a narrow focus–restoration of Mr,. Sharif. His juvenile squabbling with the PPPP in 2008 cost the country dearly. For months the nation did not have a functioning government with scores of ministers sitting at home. Our reserves of $17 Billion got eaten up. I vehemently disagree with Mr. Dar’s supply side deficit financing philosophy which killed our foreign exchange reserves in the 90s. His flip-flopping on whether to participate in the elections and then on joining the “dharna” are prime examples of immaturity. His running to Washington to surrender Kargil, and his post coup antics with Vajpayee were disgraceful aspects of his career. He made a deal with the dictator, flew to Saudi to live in luxury, while his comrades languished in jails for years. Many of his loyal comrade went their own way. This ended the friendship with many of his party leaders and split the party which will cost him heavily in the next polls too. This either shows a lack of maturity or a temperament ill suited to Pakistani politics.
We all applaud the Sharif decision to explode the bombs. Actually between the army the sentiment of the people, he had little choice but to go with the flow.
You are right, Punjab s the heart of Pakistan—however Mr. Sharif now has sequestered himself as a parochial politician unable and unwilling to become a national leader. He has locked himself out of rural Sindh, but al from Urban Sindh. One cannot hope to become Prime Minister of Pakistan without any representation in Sindh, Sarhad and Balauchistan. One cannot rule Pakistan from the Urban centers of the Punjab. To get an insurmountable momentum, one has to get all of Punjab and a substantial portion of the votes in Sindh and some representation from Sarhad and Balauchistan. A “GT Road” party cannot come to power–specially if it is on a collision course with the Army, with the USA, with half its home province and with SIndh. His inability to make the right decisions on restoration of the judiciary cost him many friends. His unnecessary confrontation with other parties in Pakistan have reduced his ability to govern with a wide coalition. His abominable comments on the Mumbai farce cost him a lot of votes in Pakistan.
Mr. Sharif had the opportunity to show his wares twice. He squandered the first and floundered on the second. He inherited $12 Billion in the treasure, when he was illegally removed from office there was only 250 million in the kitty. He attacked the parliament and sabotaged parliement, not passing any major legislation. He was arrogant to the point of becoming unapproachable. His decision on the Yellow Cab scheme and choosing the nationalization of the Dollar funds were major blunders. His removal of three COASs was juvenile paranoia which antagonized the entire army. Musharraf was just a messenger and widely welcomed all over Pakistan.
I question Mr. Sharif’s timing on joining Mr. Ahtizaz Ahsan’s movement. Mr. Sharif should be working night and day trying to bring peace in WANA and FATA. He knew Gulbadin Hikmatayar well. He took him to Mecca when he trying to forge a peace deal among the Afghan factions. He should use his connections to stop the suicide bombings and the fratricidal battles among Pakistanis. He is unable or unwilling to become a leader.
I predict a PMLQ-PPP coalition with the Sharif’s at the side ’till Mr. Zardari is removed or the next elections whichever comes first.
Stay tuned…more on the Sharif sage soon. We had been overwhelmed by world events on China, Bharat and the new administration. Some real world class articles on international relations kept us busy….a major article is due on Sharif…stay tuned
irriegardless of our opposing views, we can always agree to disagree.
Once again we thank you for visiting our site
Best Regards,
Moin
I can but only laugh while reading this article. But it doesn’t make a difference. The damage people’s party has done to the foundation of Pakistan is not latent. If Pakistan is to survive any further length of time this sort of yellow journalism and thought process needs to be eradicated.
Those who want any credibility should use a name to identify themselves.
Mr. Sharif is not “the state” and is not above reproach.
Only delusional psychotics claiming “le Etet e moi” (I am the state) consider themselves about criticism. The followers of this delusionary philosophy which claims that somehow Mr. Shairf represents the state, are destined to be sent to the dustbin of history.
Why is it that crticism of Mr. Sharif is demarcated a certain color and eulogies the Sharifs are considered unbiased commentary.
