Islamphobia, fear of "jihad" and Thucydides: A rebuttal to Caroline Glick:

The column by Caroline Glick takes incidents from various places and tries to knit a quilt which she calls “jihad“. She does not know the difference but she meant to refer to “Harabi” or terrorist (Harabist).

Cervantes would be proud to write another Don Quixote on this passage. Chasing Wind Mills as the perceived enemy will get us nothing. Unless we learn to discern the difference between a good Muslim and a bad Muslim we will be creating enemies where none exist. William Anthony Hay, Rapporteur “A  foreign  policy drawn from  Thucydides’ Melian  dialogue and  its assumption that “your  hatred is  evidence  of  our  power”  cannot  be sustained.”

Dr. Daniel Pipes says “Militant Islam is not Islam“.  ?Uri Avnery in an interesting article writes: In Jewish legend, the Golem was a man-made creature endowed with enormous strength. Rabbi Judah Loew of Prague, also know as the Maharal, created him of clay and gave him life by putting a piece of paper with the secret name of God under his tongue. The Golem helped the Jews defend themselves against anti-Semitic rioters, but one day he turned against his creator. He sowed ruin and destruction, until, at the last moment, the rabbi succeeded in extracting the piece of paper from his mouth. The Golem turned back into a heap of clay.”

Today selective amnesia sets in and we don’t remember the creators of the monsters. We tend to forget that Hamas and Islamic jihad are Frankenstein Monsters, and were created in the Power Corridors of Tel Aviv by the powers to be as counter weights to negate the power of the PLO which claimed to be the sole representative of the Palestinians.

The chickens have come home to roost. Today they are the monsters that challenged the creator. The Golem has turned on the Generals.

Similarly Laden, Saddam Husain and the Taliban were creations of the CIA as bulwarks against a resurgent Iran and a bellicose USSR. We forget that April Gillespie told Saddam Husian that attacking Kuwait will be considered by the USA as an Arab-Arab affair, and we allowed him with a wink and a nod to cross the border. Then we bombed him and his country to oblivion.

We must support the moderate Muslims of the world. President Bush said that the “actions of a few cannot create blame for the entire armed forces of the USA”.

We agree.

The actions of a few cannot lay blame on all Muslims. Muslims have condemned the brutal murders of Pearl and Berg. There is no justification for that. However all Muslims cannot be blamed for these actions. Of course the misuse of the word  “jihad” shows a lack of knowledge of rudimentary Arabic. We don’t blame Ms. Glick, because some other make the same mistake also. Instead of focusing on the negatives, we request her to focus on the positive aspects of Jewish-Muslim relationships.

Christian-Muslim and Jewish Muslim relations are, at a low ebb right now but we had a great Jewish-Muslim-Christian symbioses for over 800 years in Al-Andulus/Sefarid/Iberia/Spain from 711-1492 where Hasdai Shaprut, the prince of the Jews was also the Prime Minister and Commander in Chief in a Muslim country for over 30 years.

Samaul Nigrid also was in the same position for years among thousands of others like Musa Ibn Maiyum (Moses Maimonides). Neither Maimonides, nor Shaprut minded living under strict Islamic “shariya” laws. In fact Muslim countries were the only ones allowing Jews to live and indeed flower. No Muslim country has ever had an inquisition or a holocaust.  We propound the Andalusian model of “covivencia” in America, the greatest country on earth and the most free in the history of mankind, where we as Americans can work together. We invite her and others to join AJMA to focus on the positive. Blaming each other will not bring peace to either the Middle East or the World.
